I think it looks fantastic. It seems to put more importance on medigel. Unlike in ME2 when medigel was rarely used.

all that investment you do in ME2 for unity, like investing resources in capacity, or getting trauma/whatever upgrades still dont make me want to use unity.
i think the segments will make the game show more consequences for your actions in combat. if you were acting crazy and getting shot up, you shouldnt have to just wait in cover for 5 seconds and be at full health. there should be a long term consequence to your tactics that last longer then 5 seconds. to me its a much more rewarding system. full health is for the begining of a level, or when you have an excess of medigel. plus, i can wasite medigels to get to full health instead of every medigel container saying +100 credtis.
