The the sequel to arguably the worst game to bear the final fantasy namesake...I'm even including those Crystal Chronicles Bastardizations in this....and we all know how much better sequels tend to be relative to the original....lets use FFX-2 as an example.
Dem be fightin' words. But in honesty, XIII is one of my favorite games, FF or otherwise, but your opinion is common enough that I can't really rage about it.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII is not even a sequel. It is a new and original game on its own as part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis series.
It's a seperate story that takes place in the same universe as XIII, XIII-2, and XIII Agito. But it's in some other time era.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII takes place in neither Pulse, nor Cocoon. It is specifically a "Fantasy based on reality."
A different world, etc. The tech in Versus is in resemblence to most of ours irl.

Ya its just an opinion, if people like XIII for what it is, I can't hate on them for having a different perspective, as I have said before, the game itself isn't a bad RPG, kept me entertained for a fair amount of time (beat it 100%, achievements and all), but its garbage in my books in terms of relative to other FFs and what I consider high quality RPGs/JRPGs.
Well for me I went into it with absolutely no knowledge of what it was. I had played FFVII and FFX and the kingdom hearts games but that was it in terms of my FF experience. So I actually liked a lot of the mainly criticized points. Like *puts on flame shield* the linearity. I actually liked the story enough that I liked that you went from story point to story point with the fun combat system to entertain you in between the points. But then again, that's just me.

A trend I noticed is that FFXIII was mostly popular with people not overly familiar with the FF franchise (like yourself who have played a couple of FF games prior), or the younger generation (perhaps because I honestly believe youth these days have lesser imaginations due to technology and thus lack the sort of exploratory...damn it I'm rambling). Back to point, essentially people who liked it fell into the above catagories mostly, with of course those who defend it simply for being a FF (fanboys do exist

You can say I'm stuck in the past if you'd like, but I doubt few will argue against older titles being vastly superior to Square's latest offerings.

^ Or changed the stuff that we liked. Like, added random encounters again (WHYYYYYYYYYY) and only two people in the party.
Those things perplex me. Random encounters are just annoying at times, like pokemon. And the two person party thing with a summoned creature really bothers me. I wanted to see other characters be playable, like y'know, the ones from XIII. But I guess We'll just have to wait and see.

It's not a sequel or a prequel though, regardless of when it might take place. Kind of like how Skyrim isn't a sequel to Oblivion.Ghost Lightning wrote...

Exactly. I assume it's probably set in the past though, cause the tech they have looks less advanced (wheeled cars and modern architecture)

"Keep in mind, that Final Fantasy XIII is not a prequel or sequel to the other two FFXIII titles in the traditional sense. As Square Enix explained, the trio is linked through a common mythology but do not have any common characters, worlds, or stories. They all take place in the same universe, but aren't related to each other directly. "

They are both in the "Fabula Nova Crystal"-whatever universe. that much is true.
It's more of the same Mythology about the godess Etro and whatnot.
Pre-Odered CE as well.
Badass soundtrack.
I hate how people think(I know this does not apply to everyone) that if they have played ALL FF games up to date they think there opinions are better than those who haven't played all FF games. It pisses me offf to no end. This game will be awesome and I hope the rumor is true that FFXIII-3 will be made(which will make it the first FF trilogy)

That WOULD be cool if there was a trilogy...but I'm not sure there's enough to justify it. I mean, FFXIII really could have been a single game and it would have felt "complete."
I agree with this completely. I was actually kinda upset when they said they were making a sequel but then I was like "more....XIII...WANT"
