I bought it today and have enjoyed it so far. The storyline is a bit jumbled right now, but I expect that from a Final Fantasy game. I refuse to watch that ending; I've heard that it's sad and will probably lead the way from another sequel. I just wish that there were more party members (maybe it changes? I haven't been following info on this game very closely and I'm only about four hours into the game).

As far as FF 13 goes, it wasn't my favorite, but it definitely wasn't the worst game I've ever played. I can understand the hate the game gets, but linear games don't bother me. I prefer super linear over really open ended, call me weird!

It is not the linearity that offends me, but the badly written story and dialogue, poor characters and character growth, over reliance on cgi, same over used cliche of band of misfits against military superpowers, unchallenging/unrewarding combat, too much "whoosh! flash!" crap to do the simplest tasks of leveling up, the false "opening up" 20 hours in, the continued worthlessness of summons. Other than all that, the game was fine.

So, basically, it was your favorite game ever? =]

My brother basically finished the story. It also appears even the side stuff won't take very long either.

But the story is really short for a Final Fantasy game. Even shorter than X-2 it would seem.

Reviewers tore this game a new one, as I knew they would, and considering you can't say anything bad about a FF game without 10,000 angry fanboys complaining this is as close as we will get to a public decrying. Although at least they made an attempt to improve in some areas.

Really? I've seen nothing but mostly 9-8's across the board. Unless you consider that *tearing the game a new one".

I haven't seen any bad reviews.... But even so... tbh I judge a game on my review not theirs. I decide based on how much I enjoy playing it and so far I am really enjoying playing it. I liked FFXIII, I did.. but my initial impression of 2 is that I am liking it a lot more...
I also (which surprises me) like Serah a lot more than I did in XIII and I like Noel too.. but then XII is my fave FF and I liked Vaan just fine... I like their upbeat nature....
So far, so good imo :)

Snow went out to search for Serah's sister Lightning upon Serah's asking. That was 3 years ago. Noel is Serah's travelling companion/escort to Lightning. Also Snow and Serah aren't quite married yet, still engaged It's not like she is doing anything behind Snow's back though. (inb4fanfics >.>)

Possible distant descendant you mean? Noel is from 700 years in the future from Serah's time.

Spoilers:

They aren't related.
If they were, Noel wouldn't be part of the ending.
Also, Noel has only eyes for Yeul (no pun intended lol) for the whole game.
It is hinted in the end that he has a crush for Serah, but that's about it.

F*ck SE.

I think that was the most depressing game ending ever. And a little scary too, what with Light.

I finished it earlier and thought that the ending worked really well, it was complete enough to be an actual ending and not just a cliffhanger. I also didn't find Noel's voice nearly as annoying as i did in the demo, all in all very good.

Does anyone know if the final boss gauntlet levels with your characters? The first time i challenged it i easily ripped right through to the final fight before losing, then i levelled a bit and was humiliated so badly i dropped the difficulty.

SPOILERS:
Toriyama explained this in an interview: knowing that Serah would die, she cristalized herself for the sake of the world. Taking the role of the new Goddess. But yeah, I agree with you, effed up ending. This game feels so empty...

This game sucks.

And the fact Square wants to make a FFXIII-3 shows just how lazy and stupid they are.

...the fact that they wanna put years of effort into making a game that has production values far beyond most of the common fare that exists in the industry today makes them lazy?

They are lazy it's easier for them to make more XIII games since they already have the graphics and visuals mastered at this point, so why expand and do something different?

So Square does not put any years of effort into the XIII games.

As for the production values, sure the XIII games look like great movies but they make bad games and with what XIII-2 sold they should move on to better things.

FF12 was definitley where it all went downhill. Oh lets' find some shiny rocks, lets find more shiny rocks, let's find an even bigger shinier rock, oh lets destroy those rocks now.....

I found the sidequest more interesting than the main story, which shouldn't happen. Now, I can't even finish ff13 because it's so boring.
