I still have not beat the first one (13), I always get one shotted at the final boss. I seriously do not want to super grind the alt trees for the chars since that will take forever.

Whatever holds me over to ME3, however.

No, no, no, no, no. You don't have to grind.  This "one shot" Orphan keeps hitting you with is Death, same as Vanille's, only his hits far more often. All you need to do is find and upgrade the crowns that give you Death resist and Orphan is actually not difficult at all (I got the super star ahcievement without even having the Gold Watch). You can get up to like 97% Death resist by using the crowns and with that there's no way he'll ever get you with the one shot :D

EDIT: Durp, I didn't tell you the name of the item. You want to use  Seraph's Crowns, three of them should give you like 94-97 percent Death resist.

I don't remember Orphan ever casting Death. Some optional superbosses like Vercingetorix but not Orphan. :/ It's his Merciless Judgement attack for me. If you aren't at full or close to full health when it gets used, you're pretty much dead.

Later in the fight he'll do a move in which he waves his hand over your party. A small spark will appear near his hand. That's his Death. It's like Vanille's in that it only has a chance to actually work, but if it takes it's an automatic one shot. But yeah, merciless Judgement will also one shot you if you are poisened by his green poisen gas thing because the attack takes you down to 20 HP and the poisen will remove that instantly.

Poison is one deadly SOB in XIII. It's not really a problem for me now though against Orphan, he goes down not long just under 2:30. Some of the later Cieth stone missions like that circle in the Steppe are something else though. Did you get the Growth Egg as early as possible?

I tried, but the Neochu was very hard to kill. I mostly just did A LOT of grinding on the other monsters till my skill trees were maxed for at least each character's main three roles. That made fights a lot easier.

I decided to kill two birds with one stone by maxing the Crystarium while farming for Trapezohedrons for the tier 3 weapons on the Adamantoise on Eden. Got tedious after a while though I got lucky a few times. What team do you normally use? I use Light, Hope and Fang.

I use Light, Snow, and Vanille. And unless I need a Saboteur (I know Vanille is one, but Fang is a little better, but Vanille is my Medic) or a Synergyst I really never change. I can usually just kill things before they have a chance to do serious damage.

Characters Trailer.

Bon appetit.

Meh, it was the characters that made me dislike FF13. They were a hateful bunch with no redeeming qualities. I see nothing here that would make me buy this new one. I couldn't sit through another 50 hours of random squealing, constant emo posing and strange retardation.

The best part of FF13 was when Snows Rebel Army got it ass handed to it after all of his "We'll win as we are hero's!" Nope ***** smack*

I don't even remember that happening, probably because every time Snow began to speak I sat there wondering if he was supposed to be retarded or if his dialogue was written by an 8 year old? Lightning punching him was my favourite part of the game, although why she stopped at a punch is a mystery.

The numbers are in.

http://www.siliconer...n-opening-week/

The lowest selling Final Fantasy to date.

Personal opinion: That's what you get for putting DLC in your dearest franchise, Square Enix.

What's DLC got to do with it?

A good bunch of the fanbase didn't want them in the first place.

A part of me wants to see this game do well and get better feedback and reactions than XIII did, purely out of fear that Square realize that the 'XIII' brand name isn't quite doing well as expected and they drop Versus as it's probably not fully developed still.

Apart from that I'm still disappointed that Lightning isn't featured in such a prominent role as she was the previous game. That first XIII-2 teaser from last January showing her in her new role had all kinds of promise.

Spoiler (highlight text bellow):

You only play her for 3 minutes or so, except the QTE cutscenes in the beginning of the game.

This game had less hype than the last game, hell I bet some people didn't even know this game existed. but still sale numbers aren't everything. lots of great games don't sell for some weird reason.

Lightning may not be "playable" as much as Serah or Noel, but she still is an important part of the story. in fact Lighting wasn't really the main character of the first game. she was just the poster girl for it.

I agree. I hate Snow so goddamn much. Lightning had a blade at his neck and PSICOM had to ruin everything.:(

Lowest selling? It's been out in on country for one week.

But on a side note, I liked Snow a lot. In fact, I loved all the characters. Even Hope got good.

At first I actually hated all the characters (except Light.^_^) but throughout the game they started to really grow on me. (though Vanille's orgasm noises are still annoying at times) I wonder how long those who hate the entire cast played for before quitting? As far as I can gather most stop at the Vile Peaks.

I think many longtime Square fans who were used to such great characters from ff's past were hit in the face with xiii's cast. Like I said before i really wish Kefka would show up and kill that entire cast. And Snow DEFINITELY needs Knights of the Round applied.

You don't need rose tinted glasses to realize how far Square has fallen.

On the flipside, I'm really digging Versus' world design. Reminds me of Clamp's X from over a decade ago. Square should have just scrapped Lightning & Co and just put all their resources into Versus instead. Or a proper Chrono sequel. Chrono, Lucca, Frog > Snow. Would love to hear Yasunori Mitsuda (composer of Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, Chrono Cross) return to Square to compose another masterpiece...sigh

People should at least finish the first game and remove the sounds if it annoys them that much. That's what I do with Record of Agarest 1 & 0 because I don't like japanese voices.

I finished it despite detesting the characters, finding the story a bit crap and the leveling up to be a complete joke. I quite enjoyed the combat. I enjoyed it inspite of itself, I'd give it a 5 out of 10. If it was better written it could have been an 8 or 9.

I believe Snow to be the single worst character I've ever had the misfortune of witnessing in any game. The rest of them weren't too bad. Hope I could ignore, Sazh, Lightning and Fang were alright other than Lightning's(should we not be calling her Claire?) constant PMT problems. Vanille just needed an intervention to get her to lay off the acid trips. It's just that when any of them interact with Snow and don't question his mental faculties and actually take him serious it makes them look as bad as him.

Vanille's guilt trips could be completely gone in the sequel if she EVEN appeared. But nope, they scratched that idea. But yeah, I do agree that Snow is the most annoying character in the whole cast. Some people who played the Japanese 13-2 say that Noel isn't like him at all but he's still generic/energic and of course... Spoiler after this: he falls in love with Serah.

XIII sold a bit over 500k in it's first week in Japan. Which is pretty bad for FF - it's even slightly lower then what Xillia received, which is considerably more niche.

XIII did a bit over a mill & a half. Should also add that X-2 did even more than that, for anyone wondering if it's because it's a sequel to an existing game.

Hopefully this is a wake up call to Square.

yeah becuase sales totally deterimine the quality of a game.

sidenote X-2 wasn't that bad of a game.

Okami came out for the PS2 and Wii, sold not nearly enough copies, yet most of those who played it loved it to bits.Same thing for Skies of Arcadia. BTW The Tales series is very well known in Japan, it's almost up there with FF. (I just wish they'd localise their games more often)

Yeah the quality of FFXIII is why XIII-2 got what it got.=]

XIII-2 was supposed to fix the plethora of problems that the original had in almost every area. I don't really want Square to get the impression that their 1.5 million selling Thirteen was up to par; if anything, that the original sold so much and this sold so little should be troubling for those of us who DIDN'T like XIII. That XIII-2 sold so little might mark the diehard complainers as niche.

I guess we'll see what kind of reception XIII-2 gets here, but I'd be surprised if the forecast read anything but "chilly."

I'd hope Square should know pepole judge you on your last product as much as the quality of the title itself(though who knows whether XIII-2 is even any good).

But hey, it's Square...

Also who said FFX-2 is a bad game?
