On a recent post in the DLC salesperson thread of the old forums Fernando Melo made the following comment:

'You don't need to be online to play DLC. We have our own DLC updater that is included with the game so you don't need to install anything separately, and don't use the EA Downloader - you'll only need that if you purchase DA:O through the EA Store.'

Does this apply only for digital copies?  I have purchased a physical copy of DA:O from the EA store and would like to know if I must use the EA downloader.  I would prefer to use the DLC updater that is included in the game.

To clarify - DLC for any version (including those purchased through EA Store - digi or box) only uses the DLC updater.

I meant that if you buy a digi version of the game from EA Store you will have the EA Download Manager app, as that is the method of transfering the game to you - much like Valve uses Steam as their method, etc.  But that doesn't relate in any way to the DLC.
