Okay we're cool.

Regarding Ashley, I can live with breast plates because they aren't quite as blatant and at least appear to be actual armor (even though I know they are actually unnecessary and are not good armor design). In that regard I'm willing to meet the dim-witted opposition half-way.

Ehhh, I really doubt it would affect sales if they didn't "sex" her up. People who formed a relationship with Ashley in the first game would've still continued it no matter what. I doubt larger breasts will affect anyone's purchase of the game.
This is simply a design decision on Bioware's part.

By Straight Male Gamer, I don't mean the guys who will play through Mass Effect a dozen times. I mean the guy who will play through it maybe once and be done with it. I mean the 17-year old kid whose never seen actual set of jugs. Or the bratty 15 year old even who likes the Star Wars Prequels.Cthulhu42 wrote...

And the trick isn't SALES. But the attempt to keep players playing ME, Bioware games, EA games, etc.

Still better than Miranda and Samara. I'll take whatever I can get at this point.

Why should everyone get unique armor? It's military equipment, mass produced.
ME1 got it right.
Except for the part where the squad backed by both the Alliance and the Council had to either purchase their weapons and armor with their own funds or loot it off the corpses of people they kill. Armor riddled with bullet holes: Super protective.

No.
Sick of everything in entertainment being sexed up, sexed over, and blatantly sexualized.
Can't a female character in a video game just be a competent protagonist, without also being made up as a sex object?
However, there is nothing wrong with a character being sexy, or having big breasts, or wearing a stupid costume. The trick is how she's presented--is she a complex, unique character in a narrative that explores her experiences as a person and focuses on her personality? Or do the script, camera, and everything else about the narrative treat her as a walking pin-up?

I would strongly advise you against making such broad generalizations. I happen to be one of those Straight Male Gamers, and the presence or absence of "sexy" female characters has no impact on whether or not I choose to buy a game. I judge a game based on other merits.MACharlie1 wrote...

Said breast plates have been in every Mass Effect game so far so its a little odd to whine about it now.

Dude, I really, seriously doubt the inclusion of some slightly larger breasts on one character will do a whole lot to entice serious players to keep playing Mass Effect....honestly. It's such an insignificant aspect of the game...

I'm sorry but a stupid costume is a stupid costume.
Miranda is a complex character, but her costume is still stupid and detracts from her it by distracting the player.
Samara? Same thing. (I guess. I find her boring and she isn't even that great as eye candy).

Ah, but if all the female characters are wearing stupid costumes, and all the male characters happen to be wearing practical, believable costumes, isn't that still a part of the problem?AdmiralCheez wrote...

That why I wasn't whining, if you were implying that was. Artistically I don't mind the breast plates ony because they aren't over the top and they help differentiate male and female characters at a glance.

Again, I have commented in the past about the costuming.
And again, it did depend on which armor you were looking at.
And again, in ME1, most of the armors looked like "the female body has things here that it has to fit over" as opposed to be the distaff equivalent of a massive codpiece.

Humor and self-satire. You;re a nice guy, you make good posts, and I'm a petty little weasel for trying to egg you on and bring out the worst in you. I should be able to get over our pasts douchefests, but I'm kind of a moron sometimes.Saphra Deden wrote...

So instead of keeping my own awareness of my faults internal, I shared it, because I thought it'd be funny. I'm sorry if you didn't--I thought you'd appreciate that I realized I'm not always the bigger person, that sometimes I'm a dick, and that you don't deserve the sh*t I give you.
It's kind of like admitting I'm wrong and saying sorry in the most convoluted manner possible. With all caps.
So... I was wrong to assume you were a jerk, I was wrong to intentionally push your buttons, and I'm sorry.
Same here, but honestly, I don't have a problem with booby plates. A flat piece of armor would be uncomfortable, and one that hid the boobs by adding material to other areas would be needlessly bulky. Naturally following the contours of one's body is cozier, ensures an even layer of protection, and hey, makes you look good.Regarding Ashley, I can live with breast plates because they aren't quite as blatant and at least appear to be actual armor (even though I know they are actually unnecessary and are not good armor design). In that regard I'm willing to meet the dim-witted opposition half-way.
In short, I'd totes wear booby plates.
