Thank You for your VGA Votes – Most Anticipated Game of 2012

Due to the overwhelming support and voting by our community, Mass Effect 3 was chosen as the Most Anticipated Game of 2012 at Video Game Awards last weekend! Woot! We were up against four other awesome titles, so this is a huge honor. Thank you, thank you for rallying together and telling the world how excited you are for March!

As a thank you for rallying behind Mass Effect 3 we’d like to release this screenshot featuring Ashley in her Spectre armor.

We're also going to be having fun with captioning the photo on our Mass Effect 3 Facebook page and the best entries have a chance to win swag! Head over to the ME3 Facebook page and add your entry. :)

1) It's still a leather dress, compare the materials.
2) How much lower could it be cut without being one of those red carpet rags you see at the Oscars every year that has to be glued on to the actress?
3) Sorry I'm not intimately familiar with what to call each kind of dress -- perhaps you are?  cocktail dress, hostess dress, leather getup, call it whatever you like.  It's so out of character for both Shep and the person she was pretending to be in that mission that it's a joke.  I can't see any way it wasn't put there for the lolz of sticking Shep in a slinky dress.  Maybe the term is "little black dress", I don't know.

Remember something: the dress had to be insanely short for animation reasons. It's used as a casual outfit and with it are several hundred thousand animations that have to line up. Ever put Shep in the long dress? That thing clips during every single animation minus basic walking ones. A short dress ensured that during scenes where Shep crossed her leg or during running animation, it wouldn't look all weird. Unfortunately, FemSheps animations were copied over from ManSheps and so there are...some unfortunate scenes rather when she sits down with her legs spread wide open.

General statement:

It's perfectly respectable length. Just above the knees is fine.
I swear some of these remarks come straight from the middle-ages.

Also, they created these characters, not you.
That it might be OOC for your idea of Shepard / Ashley is something different entirely.
They give people the freedom of choice for the sake of EVERYONE and all people b*tch about is that choice not being appreciated because some of the options are not deemed viably IC for their character.
Try and think in therms of the larger picture, maybe.

No the comments come from someone characterizing everyone elses shepard and even vague aliases as there own shepard. Then continuing to push the subject derailing the thread. Then others continue to argue about it further derailing the thread.

Ah yes, cause this thread wasn't an abomination from the get-go, bar Chris's announcement.

Not really. It was mostly people either glad that they released the Ashley armor or people glad that other can finally shut the hell up about Ashley supposedly not wearing armor :P

Right now I like the armor although it wasn't something I pressure Bioware into showing. I would rather you know get a new Bioware pulse episode showing some more armor and weapon customization.

Quoted for truth.

To consider the larger picture let us take these factors into account:

1) She is a Spectre. This means many things:
A) Better equipment overall.
B) Genetic Enhancements above those of grunts.
C) She is expected to operate on her own or with a squad of her choice.

2) Examining point A if it is agreed spectre (or high end alliance) equipment is some of the best they would take personal comfort into account. In this it offers maximum functionality and if it is comfortable that would mean less distractions. I base this off of modern armor makers in particular the armored suit makers. They produce suits which offer all the comfort and style normally associated with formal wear, yet offer excellent protection from hand-guns, low caliber rifles, and in more recent designs blades.

3) She already received numerous genetic corrections when she enlisted, it stands to reason with a new position more would become available. This could explain the slight change in bodily structure, but this could be from additional training as well.

4) This is the most important part. Now agents in most cultures are expected to use all their assets. That said it would benefit her to drop the military look to allow her to operate in society, hence the hair. Despite the claims of some extreme members of the community, a pretty face can get you somewhere. Fiction is riddled with numerous accounts of femme fatale spies from the second world war and cold war. Even some formally classified cases have come to light, and one can even look into the cutthroat business world for other examples. In short her combat ability, direct nature, and good looks would be all part of being a spectre.

Wait... so how, regardless of hairstyle, is walking around in full body armor "dropping the military look?"

And exactly how many spectres have we seen without armor? And how exactly was that atrocious outfit attractive? I think he is forgetting to account for taste, and that ashley's writer left.

Oh, yes, dressing in a leather minidress and looking like she should be serving the drinks really fits the "Allison Gunn, badass mercenary commander" profile... Image IPB

Allison Gunn may actually like dressing like that at a party but then like putting armor on during combat. All we know is that she is a badass mercenary. I doubt she acts like a badass merc all the time.  Personally I don't care since it was Kasumi's choice to have Shep dress like that even though Shep didn't really approve of it.

Again I wish to get back on topic so might as well get off of this.

Not to mention that the dress is VERY modest. If Cutter is getting a ridiculously oversexed vibe from that dress, than (s)he's obviously never left the house.

Seriously, my grandmother could wear a dress like that.

"durr, da boob cups on da dress es horrible"

No its not. The boob section of the dress is also incredibly modest.

I would disagree. Compare ashley's outfit with all the other alliance officers seen in all three games and you can definitely call ashley's outfit sexualized, hell its in the description for her new look.

You don't have to show skin to be sexualized.

She's also wearing a lot of makeup.  Girl looks like she's about to hit the club in her new Marc Jacobs Spectre armor.

*note, I'm not actually complaining.  I'm just making dumb jokes because I find the last 10 pages of complaining stupid.

1. Shep's a prisoner and ashley is attending the trial.

2. I just said it was about opinions.

3. That means drastic changes are more worrying than people seem to be taking it.

Alison Gunn was invited to a party. Women generally wear dresses to parties. I'm not seeing the issue here. Sure, some women may tend not to wear dresses, but in this context it makes sense for her to wear a dress - most other women there would be and so Shepard would stand out if she wore something other than a dress.

Also, this mission was trying to give off a sort of Bond vibe - the suit and the dress fit that vibe perfectly.

And in regards to the leather--

Leather is an appropriate light combat material. It is likely that Shepard/Kasumi chose leather because it is far more durable than cloth.

In regards to it looking like something you'd see at the Oscars--

Sure. And your average house party, friendly get together, wedding, political rally, convention, etc. Its more than modest enough to bring home to your parents. She would look extremely out of place in a strip club wearing that dress.

When I see any drastic changes to her character in regards to her personality I'll be sure to worry about it. However, since it isn't March 6th yet there isn't much I need to be worrying about.

Damn! Ashley looks so nice!

To bad I'm like 0,0% attracted to her personality. She really isn't my type and that really affects my playthroughs.

I never pick Ashley as LI because I personally am not attracted to her personality, so I find it difficult to "roleplay" a Shepard that is attracted to her (personality). Stupid, isn't it?

No, that's done with by the time that happens.  In the beta leak, Shep is actually being called in as a consultant to a defense committee.  The inquiry ended with Shep getting grounded but avoiding a court martial.
