The S1 on her armor is part of The Alliance Military Vocational Code System like N7 and my guess is that the s is for Spector and the 1 indicates her level of exp. in that field 1 being the lowest and 7 beinging the highest (this is just a guess so I may be wrong) you can check the codex info on N7 in Mass Effect 2 and see what you think.

That's the most likely explanation, yes.

Missing the point, ODST. The point is that the black-whatever-dress couldn't be much lower cut without getting in that sort of territory where bits fall out without glue or double-sided tape.

The reason the black-whatever-dress is relevent is because it's a reflection of the gratuitous sexualization of the characters in the ME setting over time,

Lol, "gratuitous". That's funny.

It's stupid to rant about the " sexualization" of make be leave people in a make be leave land but if you want to then take a look at the FABLE line of games at least in Mass Effect they always eather armor of there "off duty" outfits on.

Sums it all up rather nicely. It even has Mass Effect in it.

Tera Online? I have to say that game would make me feel rather uneasy all the time... if I would have female character.

I still support the theory her "giant boob-protectors" are just protectors while her breasts are still at same size like before. She simply enjoys wearing a more comfortable armor than the Phoenix which seems to "flatten" hear breasts a lot.

Women tend to like comfortable clothes in that area.

Agreed. As a bit of a fencer myself, it was quite entertaining.

Hehe. I am reminded of a TV show on Discovery, where a pair of (male) industrial designers looked for ways to improve everyday objects, like shopping trolleys and so on. In one episode, they were to design a bra. So they went on with this from a mostly technical and practical standpoint (tempered by economic concerns), looking up relevant anatomy and running extensive physics simulations and stress tests. They came up with something that the (one single) test subject agreed was very comfortable, but in the end she didn't want it over something outright chafing, because while it was an optimal support device for her bust (tailored, as opposed to the limited selection of shapes and sizes that would make it to retail), it didn't... hmm... "enhance" her figure, the way she wanted it to. :P

Thing is; it's not about size, but about there being no reason for the exterior shape of the breastplate to conform to the body behind it -- you can have all the comfortable custom moulded room you want in the interior padding, without adding complex shapes to the outside.
On the contrary; from a practical standpoint it is outright dangerous to have more angles and surfaces that may catch shrapnel, rather than deflect it -- practical armour has a simple barrel shape that tries to go as far from perpendicular as possible to expected directions of impact (heck, it's the same as stealth technology). The separate (and now perkier) cups that we see, instead pretty much acts sa a funnel to the wearer's heart. They have a strictly ornamental function, which counteracts the protective one.

It is perfectly possible to acknowledge this and live with it -- no need to go strawmanning people for pointing it out, out of defensive aggression.

Except there was no mention of the downside of wearing armor. A great swordman could easily beat an armored novice becasue 1. He will be much quicker to attack and parry 2. He will be able to fight longer and keep sword arm speed because the weight will drag on endurance of the armored person. 3. Better mobility allowing more angles of attack and better footing. This can be used to an advatage decisively. 4. Armor is made for defensive fighting that is why they hated archers which could fell them with one well placed shot before they got in melee.

Of course; there are plenty of checks and balances involved. Myself, I won't wear defensive attire in one-on-one combat (which is what I'm trained in, unsurprisingly) despite it awarding more defense 'points' when judged. It slows me down too much: my style is swift, Asian.

That said, if I were surrounded by hundreds of foes I'd likely want my armor. I am no archer, after all.

People are complaining about THAT dress? Wow.

It's about as modest and subtle as you can get.

Not in comparison to the dresses or gowns that were being worn in the dlc by npcs.

Keep in mind that many people (men and women alike) complained about the outfit when Kasumi's dlc first came out.  People were wondering (myself as well) why Shepard wasn't able to dress like some of Hock's female guests.

One of the things that was highlighted was combat in regards to the length of the dress.  Many said, had it been longer it would have been fine, but it's too short.

I am quite sure you do better because of it. Even the cloth suits in my college fencing class were enough to hinder arm movements and speed to a great degree. I can only imagine platemail and what it would do. It requires its own fighting strategies to be effective. I wonder how they trained to fight unarmored foes. I know I would try to overwhelm them quickly because it is all downhill after the first minute or two. Yet they can flee easily and maintain staying out of your range until you tire. I can even imagine a fast enough person can just dash behind you and attack before you can turn and counter optimally.

He made it seem like Red Sonja armor = zero protection. It is certainly better than wearing just a frock. It maintains mobility and speed and adds some protection. Now not a great deal but some. She also used her assets to her advantage over men. Image IPB
