Less than zero. Zero means nobody will remember you, she tends to provoke hostility most of the time (look at her clan). In fact thinking about it deeper empathy seems to be something the elves just don't do...as a whole in two games...
Maybe Elves just don't empathize with Humans? Empathy is a requirement for civilization. So at least during the era of Arlathan their empathy for each other must have been great.
But I agree, Elves in these games tend to be not empathic. Especially Tallis, whose blatant disregard for Hawke's opinions and emotions should be counted a Crime Against Humanity. Merrill is actually the kindest and most empathic of all the Elvish characters IMO, but that's not sayng much.

Anders says "Maybe this time we'll find more than bones" and Isabela says "If I ever make a shrine like this, stab me in the eye please".
How are those any better? I find Anders' to be worse.
You have a point. Aveline gives a more sensitive comment though, IIRC. I never heard that from Anders - that is so OOC. But I consider Merrill & Isabela's comments to be in character, if not tolerable.
Or if you bring her along to investigate Gascard DuPuis's mansion. "Gascard is like me. We both like ancient artifacts."
I always bring her and I've never gotten that. How'd you get it?
She says that when you investigate one of the objects lying around in the mansion. Maybe the first one? Just don't bring Anders along too. He tends to override Merrill's dialogue in many situations (and vice versa).
you do realize that she goes to see Hawke, knows he's upset, consoles him, and also says that she too is filled with great sorrow?
Ir abelas, ma vhenan.
Translated, that means "I am filled with great sorrow for your loss, my love."
Merrill quite clearly fits the bill of an empath, as empathy is defined as being able to recognize and share feelings. She's actually a sympathetic person as that involves being an empath but also having a positive regard for the other person.
EDIT: Not to mention that she says "I'm sorry. his blood magic was the only thing keeping her alive. There's nothing I can do" when Leandra starts dying.
That's a very good instance. I have no doubt that Merrill is a kind hearted person who cares about others. What I meant is that she often has genuine difficulty knowing exactly what other people feel. Or how to influence those feelings in a positive way. It's not her fault, but her weakness. The times when she's insensitive are not her choice.
Compare that to Isabela, who can shrewdly guess everyone's motives and emotions like any good Rogue, but blithely chooses to ignore them. I consider Isabela's comfort scene after Leandra's death to be the worst among all the companions (just watch it on YouTube if you haven't seen it, it's so bad it's hilarious). Anders' is the best, followed closely by Merrill's.
In fact I think the "Or with Falon'Din" comment is very heartwarming, unlike others who find it culturally insensitive. It's like Merrill considers Hawke, and Leandra by extension, one of the People instead of Shemlens. It's like if a Hindu friend tells me that my dead relative must have been reborn into a nice Brahmin family because of her good Karma, I'd be honored and solaced.
