I've been tweaking my save with Gibbed's ME2 editor, since I've long since lost my original ME playthrough through OS reinstalls and what have you, in order to try and set up the finer points of my character history as I played them before. The problem here is that one can only alter the original ME plot progression with the editor once you have already started a new game or imported an ME save-game in. As such, by that point, most plot progression points cannot be changed (Gibbed's editor states "Editing these values will only affect anything if you import this game as a new save."), with the exception of the few major ones in the "interactive comic". I was wondering if there was a way of taking an ME2 save with some progress on it that I have used with the editor to alter the ME plot points and "import" that in order to use it for a fresh start in ME2 with the ME1 choices that I have set?

Long shot I reckon, but eh. Cheers.

Its not possible sorry, I've tried and no dice. However if you import that save with the changed values in ME3 it might work but create some inconsistencies that stop the game from working properly. Such as maybe Romancing Liara in ME2 and changing who you Romanced in ME1 to Ashley.

It just doesn't happen like that and might confuse the game.

I accidentally put that i Romanced Ash and Liara in Gibbed and when i started in a new game and your teammate comes to tell you that the Normandy is under attack it was a black screen because the game didn't know who should appear in the first scene in the game, Ash or Liara. It would be best to just start a new game with those decisions or risk not being able to use that save in ME3

On a side note however you might be able to change small me1 quest variables because they don't play a huge role in ME2 but for big plot points like Rachni and Wrex, dont try it.

I'm not trying things like that - I just want to play through ME2 with the cannon plot variables that I chose in ME1. You mentioned starting a new game with the accidental double-romance - that's what I'm trying to do (minus the double romance); get the game to accept the changes made in the editor. As of now, the only way I can change variables is after I've started a new game, by which point, it wont recognize any changes. How did you manage to get the game to load the changed made in the editor?

@McCovican;  Have you tried the "ME - Genesis" cartoon/mini-game?

Its whole purpose is to let you establish the end-state conditions of ME1 to carry forward into ME2 without actually having to play ME1.
