I'm new to ME2. Imported my ME1 Shepard and played for two hours.  "Save" and "Map" on mission computer stayed gray and inaccessible.  I just assumed I was still in the prologue, but after two hours this was still the case.  I messed around with the "load" screen and pushed something to make the "Save" and "Map" options accessible, but it still will not allow me to save.  So I basically wasted 2 hours.

Is this the Import Glitch mentioned in other threads?  Sorry if this is a really common question, but googling and looking through threads did not give me an obvious answer.

This glitch, along with the "improved" combat system, as well as the microscopic game type, has left me wanting to throw ME2 into a fire pit.  It has to get better for everyone to rave about this game right?

In my time here yours will be the first case of its sort (that I can remember off the top of my head anyway); so as far as I'm concerned the problem isn't common.

The first thing that you could do is see whether you have autosave enabled. At the very least you can load from the last checkpoint, and also have a save point available even though you didn't save manually.

The second thing is where and when are you trying to save? You can't save during combat sequences for example, and the map button is also greyed out during that time as well. In not knowing your circumstances I am inclined to think you're trying save at a point when the game doesn't allow it.

Thank you for the reply.

I knew something was up when I could not save in non-combat situations, like just chillin' on the Normanday. I had autosave on also, and the save graphic kept going off in the lower left hand corner, but it was not saving to my hard drive.

In case it was some type of Import glitch from DLC I deleted my Bring Down the Sky files in ME1. Whether this did the trick or just restarting the game I don't know, but now the game can be saved normally. Before it was as if the game could not connect to my hard drive even though I had selected it as my saving device.

Hopefully this will help someone else out also. It was a very frustrating situation!

At least it's working. That's all that matters.

I can't remember if I had any problem with the map but I definitely had a problem with saving once - and I am not the only person who has had the problem.
I don't think anyone has identified the cause (it happens occasionally) or any fix other than give up and try again (I imported the same save and it worked...)
