Question on bgtosc_us.exe

Posté 15 décembre 2011 - 10:06
Have installed (cached 140nb) BG1 from the 4 in 1 boxset without installing any of the other 3, Ran BG1FixPack11.exe, Setup-BG1varFIX.exe ok, but then ran bgtosc_us.exe patch (whoops). BGMain2.exe is in the root directory, but does anyone know if any other BG1 files were changed/damaged?
When TOSC is installed, how does one determine whether to run the bgtosc_us.exe or bgtosc_uk.exe patch?
Thanks,

All the BG1 patch can be downloaded here. http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/BG/index_misc.php

"Installing Tales of the Sword Coast [patch?] will replace many of the contents of
your override directory. Some items like character portraits and
sounds will be left intact, but you run the risk of losing any hacked
or otherwise modified files."
In that case do I "run the risk of losing any.. [native BG1] files?"
No mention of separate European/US versions of BG1, only for TOSC, When TOSC is installed, no doubt the answer will become apparent then.

Yep, I checked it out- doesn't quite address the nub of question but it does say:

The patch will want to be installed over a particular game version… generally specified somewhere near the top of the (patch) readme.
If after installing the patch you discover that you somehow picked the wrong one then uninstall it… Let’s be very clear here you MUST install the patch first before adding any other mods so the install order for you is either;
BG1, patch, other mods <or> BG1, Totsc, Patches, other mods.
p.s
Of course the other case is, (GoG) BG1, other mods but I know you don't have the this version.

Australia actually, but the discs were shipped from a UK vendor via Ebay.

The patch doesn't appear in Add/Remove Programs, so it either didn't work properly, or became part of BG1. In this case. in uninstalling the patch one uninstalls the entire game.
A good patch should first look for any mods/data errors and warn before proceeding. Easily said than done when there are multiple game/game patch versions.
ussnorway, would you agree that when one is ready to play TOSC, uninstall BG1, but keep the save games, and then reinstall with the expansion?
As far as I know (and hope), the mods & patches stay well clear of touching saved_game data.

Yes that’s probably for the best if you have a game in progress... ‘As far as I’m aware’ none of the official patches touch save games but because the BG1 patch does add to your dialog.tlk its conceivable that something got messed up... don’t forget BG1TOSCGameTextUpdate11 & just for the record no you can’t revert back to non-totsc without messing up your totsc saved games unless you made a pre-patch save for orientation.ussnorway, would you agree that when one is ready to play TOSC, uninstall BG1, but keep the save games, and then reinstall with the expansion?

Yes, this is correct but keep your save game files when asked.
