As far as Ash being emotional...I think it's absolutely the most appropriate time for her to be emotional.

It's an emotional situation for the VS, in the extreme.

And also, if both Brooks and Sbarge pronounce "Ilos" as "Eeelos"---then goddamm!t--it's now pronounced "Eeelos" as far as I'm concerned.

That's exactly "Eelos" in Russian version ;)

And congratulations to Ashley fans!

You may try to listen to Kimberly's reading with that sad evacuate Earth soundtrack of the leaked beta. Gives a lot of goosebumps ... and a tear ^^

A little overacted, I think. But yeah...I guess I need another playthrough with a faithful Shepard :-P

Now that should have been part of the ME2 game itself! Not just the player reading the letter while trying to incorporate the voice for it!!! <_< Shame on you Bioware!!! Still I can't wait for my Shep to be reunited with Ash when ME3 comes out. :P

It's actually pretty funny how what might sound really cheesy in written form can come off perfectly natural and appropriate when spoken out loud. I hadn't looked at the Horizon letter in a while, so having reread it, it still sounded kinda weak. But I gotta say, Kimberly Brooks pulled off the voice-acting really well and added just the right amount of intensity to the role.

That way she breathes into the microphone...

[drooling_in_ecstasy.jpg]

Never thought I'd say this, but this is sultrier than anything I've heard from Jennifer Hale (who is more like The Dominatrix than The Lover, not that I'm complaining).

Damn why isn't she romanceable by FemShep?

To emphasize the danger of this statement, I'm going to bold, italicize, and underline. Do not blaspheme in my presence.

I dare say I'm a bigger fan of Jennifer Hale than you are. But you have to objectively admit that Jen seldom uses a voice that is both soft AND mature. She's either the strong willed career woman or the cute little girl.

Hehe, I dare say you're probably right. I really only know her as Bastila (and a bit as Femshep). I have a pretty biased judgment since I consider her one of my favorite Bioware characters. She does seem to shift back between the two extemes. Still, she pulls both off fairly well when she wants to.

Indeed.  People can naturally blurt outcheesy things.  Writing is much more formal.  You have a chance to go back and correct things before sending the letter out.

I could just imagine Ash tearfully dictating that note after calming down.  Trying to salvage something of the relationship they had.  It's almost part of the second scene we never had, but should have.

Jen's voice has a polished, metallic ring to it (she started as a singer). It can translate into either heroic willpower, or youthful vitality, but never helplessness. Even when she whispers softly for help you can feel the strength, determination and optimism in her voice. When intending to sound aggressive or menacing that voice will chill you to the bone. That's why I love that voice.

I still haven't forgotten your idea for Shepard to have a video call with his ME1 love interest before the suicide mission. I intend to whip that bad boy out when Bioware starts asking us to give them ideas for the Mass Effect trilogy special edition which is inevitable. Image IPB

Agreed on all counts. I really couldn't imagine KotOR or ME without Hale. She's probably one of the best VAs in the business.

Hale is probably my favorite female voice actress for the power and polish in her commanding voice.

My Shepard now intends to hug Ashley very tightly when he next gets the chance, that voice recording seriously almost made me cry. It was great.
Also, given the circumstances, I don't think it's unreasonable that Ashley might be a little bit tearful and confused by the whole situation. She's a tough hard bitten no nonsense marine but she's still only human.
