@Cthulu42 The funny thing is that it didn't happen until my 3rd playthrough and it was with the only renegade FemShep I ever rolled. xD Maybe it's because I knew what she had waiting for her in ME2.
@firefireblow I tried to spoil the hell out of myself on DA2, but still didn't see that scene coming.

He doesn't really get sappy, and that's what made it so powerful to me. It's kind of subtle, but romanced Kaidan looks...devastated when he looks at Anderson, then quietly elated and relieved when FemShep pops up. It's such a feeling of triumph, relief, and "How the hell are we not dead?" that made me want to kiss the game makers.
I don't know if anyone else was ever affected by the ending of ME1 in that way, but it certainly made a mark on me.

The point is, certain devices can seem, well, obvious.
Considering that Shepard previously in the beta talked about how bad war is because you can't save everyone the kid was supposed to represent that. Plus Shepard did have a steely eyed look ever the brief sad one then walked away determined to defeat the Reapers.
