  I need to get 18 Constitution to equip Mage Friend, Right?  That should be enough Constitution for a high strength Aveline.


  I'm thinking of getting a high Magic mage hawk but am wondering how to not run out of Mana.  I'm thinking of using Hex of Torment and auto-attacking.

Any suggestions?

shield defence will reduce damage by 25% - this means that it's not very good for your damage output no matter how much strength you may have.
it does add quite a bit of survivability however, so perhaps using it when dropping under a certain level of health (and heals are on cooldown) or if you manually want to activate it for the 25% damage resistance against assassin backstabs (assuming it's upgraded).


mana can be regenerated by rally (from your warriors), death syphon, or just using blood magic.
rally is generally the easiest.
if you're going with autoattacking stick with haste - you shouldn't need to hex things too much if you have a high magic build.

If you're auto-attacking, mana shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Remember that you have access to lyrium potions, and look for equipment that boosts mana regeneration (Malcom's Honor, etc). If you unlock 8 abilities in elemental, primal or spirit, you can get a +10 to mana regeneration. If you do all 3, that's +30 mana regeneration. As mentioned, rally is also another mana regen tool.

I usually have Aveline use shield defense when her health drops below 75% and deactivate it when her health is above 75%. You could lower that to 50% if you'd really rather save it for emergencies.

At the momment my gear is giving me 100 points of Mana so that hasn't been a problem. Poor Anders has 203 mana and is running 2 sustains so he runs out much faster than me. If I get the Robes of unblemished cleanliness that will reduce my mana a little.

I finally clicked off the line Surrounded by x turn on Shield Defense. Haven't noticed the difference on Hard difficulty.

I mainly have Anders keep rock armor+heroic aura up and use panacea when I want him to cast aid allies, then deactivate afterwards.

For the most part, he sticks to heals+haste and petrify against elites/bosses, and uses spells like chain lightning+crushing prison against staggered enemies. Mana is rarely an issue, even with 2 sustainables, and if he happens to run low, he just pops a lyrium potion.

Is shield defense good against bloodmages? And mages in general like a Saarebas?

Should I get elemental weapons? I heard it gets less important as you level up. is that right?
