Just sat here listening to the awesome soundtrack for Inception and was wondering if good old Hans would have been better for inspiring more thoughtful epic tunes. The main inception theme and "dream is collapsing" track are awesome IMO.  Can just imagine looking out over a scene of destruction but having a sense of hope for the future with the main theme and for "the dream is collapsing" track it just seems to set up some kind of final battle. Anyway have a listen and see what you think.

Hans Zimmer would certainly have done an amazing job for the ME3 OST, but better than Clint Mansell? Not sure... What I've heard from Mansell so far has also been REALLY good!

I know Mansell is good but the music of his that I have listened to all seem to edge towards the depressive wheras Hans Zimmer always seems to have more vitality in his music, I just thought his style was a better fit, anyway theres no denying they are both excellent.  Here's to experiencing an excellent soundtrack come March 9th.

Hell no. Clint Mansell's music at least has some personality to it. Hans Zimmer is boring and uninspired sounding...

Hans Zimmer is better for high action adventure. While Clint Mansell does well with more of a dark/forbidding setting. Given Mass Effect 3 is going to be a dark story Mansell is the better choice.

Hans Zimmer? Too mainstream!

In all seriousness, though, Hans is already the king of movie music (and I love his work). Clint deserves a little more exposure, because he has just as much potential, power, and versatility.

Absolutely not. His music doesn't capture the feel of mass effect. Neither does clint mansell. The first two games had a consistent representative soundtrack. Judging by this guys other music, it's going to be all piano and lux aeterna. Now if that music from the CE unboxing was mansell, then im no longer worried. But Hans zimmer would go full blown Hollywood orchestra on the game, and the music would be out of place. His music isn't that suited for sci if in my opinion.

Epic - Yes.
Boring - yes.

It was cheesy and sounded like every other action movie out there. Mass Effect doesn't need soundtracks like that..

Actually, Hans is pretty damn versatile.

But so is Clint, and after hearing this baby, my body is ready.

That's why I always play my heavy metal music on ME 1 because its:

Too cheesy
Too Boring
and
Not Epic

Were ME 2's music was alright but not Epic, Hans Zimmer could have done better. And seeing as theres some
sneaking about in ME 3 that theme from the Oil Rig mission at the start would fit in.

Never was a fan of Hans Zimmer. At best, he's an average composer and at the worst he has a very generic style. Call me old fashioned but with the deaths of Goldsmith, Kamen, Poledouris and John Williams not working much outside of his collaborations with Spielberg, I see the 2000s as an end of a great era in film scoring.

I have to agree. Some of Zimmer's MW2 music sounded way too similar to his Blackhawk Down music.

Nope. His music doesn't fit the universe, and after a bit... everything sounds the same.

Why, because I did not like ME1's music?

Also why should I care if you dont take me seriously anymore?

Case in point:
Blackhawk Down:

MW2:

His action scores are so generic it's mindnumbing. He's not terrible some of his more romantic and emotional music isn't half bad. His action style is always the same. The fact that I as a non-fan can distinguish his style is very telling.

Lion King does not sound like Driving Miss Daisy does not sound like MW2.

But nonetheless, I 'm glad they went with the lesser-known composer.

Hans has some great work, but some of it is pretty phoned in. Mansell's almost always leaves an impact.

But Driving Miss Daisy does sound a lot like As Good As It Gets. He does have a very generic style when you comepare all of his films of the same genre. That's one of my problems with him.
