Would Hans Zimmer been better for the soundtrack?

Nope. His music doesn't fit the universe, and after a bit... everything sounds the same.
But nonetheless, I 'm glad they went with the lesser-known composer.
Well... this. I'm really tired of the big epic horn in the background.

To me it's more: You heard one Zimmer action score, you've heard all of them. The same goes for his dramas. Rain Man, As Good As It Gets and some others really are pretty generic.mauro2222 wrote...

Clint Mansell is not by any measure of the word bad, and while I like Hans Zimmer, lets give this guy a chance.

Considering we haven't heard ANYTHING other than one piece of music from the new composer it is a little bit premature to have a thread like this just yet. Good grief.
Do you need to throw an object up to know it will fall down?
.
Cause the rationalization here is the same. You don't need to listen to Clint Mansell work in ME3 to know it will be divine.

Agreed. I haven't heard anything from the new guy (Clint) but I'm keeping my mind open. I honestly think Hans Zimmer and his company of composers are way over-exposed and have saturated film scores with their generic style.
Here is a small piece of the music from Mass Effect 3, to answer your question.

I'm intrigued. I'm curious to see how the entire score plays out to get a better feel for it.

"Death is the Road to Awe," from The Fountain.
"Sacrifice," from Moon.
From ME3.
He also did the tune in the unboxing video.
EDIT: "unboking," lol.

Agree with you that John Williams is easily better than Zimmer.
Got to disagree with you on Mansell vs All. To me a lot of the old time composers (living and dead) are musical geniuses. Bernard Hermann, Ennio Morricone, Jerry Goldsmith and yes John Williams I would put above Mansell.

Hans Zimmer is better for high action adventure. While Clint Mansell does well with more of a dark/forbidding setting. Given Mass Effect 3 is going to be a dark story Mansell is the better choice.
this. If anyone has seen the movie requim for a dream..rather dark and depressing. Plus, I think with the slight oddity with Clint Mansells music will bring a somewhat odd feeling that is sci-fi.
If that made sense to anyone...

Again my case is made. I listened to for 5-10 seconds and was able to pick up that it was Zimmer. I'm starting to think he recycles his own music more than James Horner does.darkness reborn wrote...

I like the both equally. Williams Prequel Trilogy music was great but it suffered from lousy editing. Much more so in Revenge of the Sith. Throwing in Duel of the Fates (perhaps George's idea) during the Anakin/Obi Wan Duel annoyed me. (as much as I love the piece) Crystal Skull I liked but I wish that they would release the complete score recordings since in many cases editing scores to fit the film often hurts the music. (most score album releases don't help the situation either) I realize that I tend to enjoy film scores best when they are in a complete format. I even enjoy them more than I how I heard them in the film.Lunatic LK47 wrote...
More inclined to trust Jerry Goldsmith over John Williams. I just got tired of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones music, and this is coming from someone who loved the original trilogies.
Goldsmith's Alien score is a perfect example of a soundtrack I never appreciated until it was released in a complete format. The same goes for Williams Superman Score.

You have a well seasoned ear and are to be commended for that list taste wise.
