Both are equally unqualified.

Who then would you suggest, Kaiser?

I would've stayed with the original guys of Wall of Sound, instead of dumping them for some expensive semi-celebrity at the end of the trilogy.

Hey Kaiser, is there anything about ME3 you're not horribly disappointed about?

Lemme see: story, characters, in-ME3 choice/consequence, series level c/c, music, railroading, lack of grey morality, subtlety and nuance...

Hmm, I suppose the combat mechanics are the one thing ME3 seems to improving over its predecessor, but then again Gears already has it beat in the shooter department.

Regardless. I'm cool with Clint Mansell. Zimmer is getting more work in film and video games than he really should. Geez I sound like a grumpy curmudgeon.

That's more positivity than I was expecting, to be honest.^_^

Or at least, that's what you assume happened.

That's what I know has happened.

Like how I knew ME3 would have multiplayer, while you continued to stick your cute little gatorduck head in the sand until the official reveal.

Honestly, now of what I've heard, Mansell's the only one. Zimmer's good and all (Dark Knight, and Dark Knight Rises sounds good too) but Mansell's the only one.

Thank you! You just provided for me the reason why he shouldn't be composing action movies. Scoring action movies are the weakest aspect of his skil. They all sound essentially the same. Honestly if you told me to listen to any of his action scores I couldn't tell whcih films they come from and I am very good at doing that. His style is too generic and dull.

I wanna hear DeadMou5 in the epic scenes.

But Zimmer like I said, is better to other things BESIDES Mass Effect.
He has great music, but its not suited for this.

Right, so that Gladiator song sounds just like The Last Samurai song which sounds exactly like The Rock theme song.

Your ears need waxing my friend.

Can Hans Zimmer do Mass Effect music?

Because I can't care less about what he's done.

Nope. I was embellishing a bit.But My point stands. I said earlier that witin a specific genres he does sound generic. As Good as it Gets Reminds me very much of Driving Miss Daisy but compare these two pieces:

I recall watching Blackhawk Down and being reminded specifically of the music from the Favela Level in MW2 and Facepalming the similarities. Actually a lot of his MW2 stuff reminded me of either Blackhawk Down or The Rock.
Face it I just don't like his music.

Crysis 2, MW 2, plus a boatload of movies shows that Mr Zimmer would have made ME 3 epic. I'm just waiting to see what Clint Mansell can come up with.

Hans Zimmer is nice, but... no, not for Mass Effect. Clint Mansell's work so far has been perfect. ME2's soundtrack almost felt out of place when compared to the first game's. Hearing the few samples we've gotten of Mansell's work though, I'm confident he will be perfect for blending them together and adding his own beautiful touch.

Personally, I think I would've gone with Harry Gregson-Williams over Zimmer though. His style has much more finesse, rather than bombastic, over-the top orchestra and too many "blasts" of quick notes.

I was particularly disappointed with his score for Sherlock Holmes 2... I just heard the funky theme over and over. Maybe one or two nice moments that I won't mention since today's the opening, but even so. The movie itself was great. The music? Typical. Nothing outstanding, other than as I said, a few great moments.

So, no, I think Zimmer would have been an extremely poor choice for a Sci-fi video game. Perhaps Michael Giacchino would be better? He did the most recent Star Trek, which honestly I feel is what the Mass Effect movie will be like... well, hopefully ME's movie will have a story of somewhat higher caliber, but... we'll see.

I still think that those 2 guys from Arrival and Kasumi's DLC are the best ones.

Pretty much this.  Hans Zimmer is a great composer, and I thought he did an outstanding job on Crysis 2 (which I believe is his first game he composed, correct me if I'm wrong), but I don't think he would have been the right choice due to his style for ME3.

What's the difference? Lorne Balfe? Hans Zimmer? They all sound the same at RCP. It 's why film scoring in my opinion is so homogenous of late. Granted not every composer at RCP sounds like Zimmer. Harry Gregson-Williams stands out to me.

You just provedmy point. Generic, generic, generic. If anything, he could do some of the combat themes, since he's completely unable to create emotion without it sounding forced and cheesy.

And why won't people just stop using the word 'epic' in ever damn sentence?! A soundtrack doesn't have to be 'epic' to fit the game. ME3 will be depressing and dark, so why do some of you keep saying that Clint Mansell is too much of that?! Are you really that daft, or have you just listened to too much Hans Zimmer?

Not to mention that it has to be creative and have diversity between the different environments in the game.

Undoubtedly Zimmer could have made a great soundtrack for ME, he is the Hollywood blockbuster composer of choice for a reason.
My preference would have been Wall and Hulick still, their ME soundtrack was simply magic. Especially the synths of the first one.

I loved Wall of Sound's stuff in a lot of places, but honestly, I thought some of it sounded a bit tacky.  Stuff like this and this...  I like "synthy" stuff, but not when it's done wacky like that.

Having said that, they sound amazing a lot of the other time.  Especially loved tracks like Battling Saren, Uplink, the music on board the Normandy, The Illusive Man, Uncharted Worlds, Suicide Mission, End Run, etc...

Also to those worried about piano in ME3 - feast your ears on this lovely piece of cheesy american soap opera music from ME1 :D

I guess tastes are different. Liara's world is a incredible track IMO. Creepy, alien, futuristic and not your everyday main stream orchestral music.

I don't have problem with piano for the love theme, Wall-Hulicks uses piano here because it fits, while they use synths to get the general Sci-Fi feel, I would hate listening to piano shotgunning geth to the face, or Thessia enviromental music.
