So it seems that voting on SOPA has been delayed due to outrage and mass criticism (source). Apparently, the majority of the advocates for SOPA know almost nothing about the internet and how SOPA will affect it. Inb4 Internet Big Brother.

What SOPA Will Do

What SOPA Means for Gamers

Uploading a gameplay video to Youtube could be considered “light terrorism” and you could face indefinite detainment. ... If someone at a game company doesn’t like the negative opinions journalists have about their latest release, they could easily have the site taken down. Not just the article, but the entire site. Oh, and lets not forget the ability to sue the bloggers who criticize their games. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. This would also mean no more mods, unofficial game guides, or screenshot sharing. The very act of telling your friend how to open a door in a video game could result in you going to prison. Contributing to the “arrow in the knee” meme on Reddit could result in the whole site getting blocked forever.

Another power grab. First the killswitch, now trying to censor. All hail the fools!

I don't think the advisors are however. This law preserves the financing Arm for there "ellections" also it cans or limits political troubles to older, and easier to track means.

It never ceases to amaze me how their was more outcry over SOPA than the latest National Defense Authorization Act which gives the military to indefinitely detain american citizens arrested in the United States

LOL

Shoot us without trial, arrest us without justification, herd us into camps like animals, and use military force to assassinate us.

But you will never take out Digital Porn!

And yes it is sad and stupid.

It's more than taking out porn. It gives the possibility shutting down every possible fansite, crippling a lot of Youtube videos and so on. As a person who posts on a forum dedicated to videogames, you should be concerned.
Not saying that I'm not concerned about the National Defense Authorisation Act, just that this here isn't a trivial issue. Having irrelevant dinosaurs with the ability to vote on an issue that they have no clue about is not the way matters should be conducted.

So....having the net shut down, which it won't be, or at least having youtube cut out is a bigger issue to you than the government going "Hey you like your going to this camp, or we'll just blow you up." is the lesser one...

This is why Humanity needs to slow down with technology, the day Youtube not having some content, is a worse fate than having a Drone Lob a Smart Bomb in your window for any given reason.

After doing some research, I'm going to be canceling my ME3 pre-order.

I'd dearly love to be able to play the game, but unfortunately no deal as long as it comes infected with the likes of EA. I'm currently on Origin (only a 50 minute wait to talk to someone!) to cancel my order and shut down any vestige of the account.

It's become apparent that the only way to prevent this kind of rubbish from making it to the Congress is to starve the entertainment industry of its income, as they simply won't listen to reason.

Sorry, Bioware.

Isn't this off topic? Unless EA is one of the companies advocating SOPA.

Oh please, they're not going to haul anyone off to camps or toss a bomb in anyone's window.

The U.S. government has far worse things to worry about than lowly citizens like us watching porn and YouTube videos - unless you also happen to be part of a dangerous hacker group or an ultra-paranoid militia.

In that case, you're probably better off being taken out of the picture - and so is society at large.

Some Militas are around with good reason I sure as hell don't trust DC, also the law has been used to assassinate citizens. Of course many of them as you pointed out deserved it however today we have two radical movements who don't care for moderation and want it all one way or not at all. Should they keep gaining politcal clout as they have, who is to say they would not turn those powers around to there advantage? Moderation is dead or nearing it, and we have from 96 jumped up from 56 Armed Militia's whos numbers were 60k, to over four hundred that have adopted cell structures and most estimates place at being in the area of 2 to 3 million. And have underwent paramilitary or in some cases offical military training.

Hardly "Fringe yocals". If the US survives without a tolertarian government, intenational intervention or a civil war in the next 20 years, you can color me surprised. Normally our Wealth would be a safe guard here, but according to latest reports 50% of Americans live at or near poverty while 12% have seen there wealth climb 40%, creating yet more social devides. Nevermind large numbers of weapons the have vanished thanks to the stupid, gun running program. An the inability for us to stop our debt from growing, or the fact mexican drug cartels have been raiding the border at will. Also as has been shown in pakistan, afghanista, Iraq, Libya, and Iran, we have a carefree nature about civilian damange. Many in the CIA and the White House Adminstration have even taken a liking to using drones to do less than "questionable" military and political goals, as a drone is not a person and thus cannot be charged under any sort of law. Or if as was the case with CIA prisons, if its not in the US then US law need not apply.

Replace the Word America with any other nation and people would be nodding there heads. screaming civil rights abuse, or would be saying a civilwar is coming. And in the case of the US one that would spread to the whole of North America, if not turn into a global conflict. In fact most reacent events leave a global war a question of When, rather than If, unless massive changes happen.

As to it affecting non Americans (SOPA). Well thats what you get when you rely on a service from another nation. If its important enough you seek a new source, or you do as they want. As is the Case with swaths of Europe with Russian Oil, or large parts of the World, and Chinese Trade Goods. Most of the Worlds Net addy's are US registerd and owned, as is most of the infastructure.

This doesn't look good at all. Too much power. And most likely a potential security breach. Chances are that it'll cross the US borders, because it looks like it is intended that way. So it concerns me as well, even though I am not from the US. I think I have to read up on this issue to be able to understand its implications better.

You may think and wish that, but what one man gives another can always take away. The only true rights is what you can keep and maintane yourself or with the help of others. In the case of the net given recent political trends be ready for dissapointment and your own nationalized network.

The net is another form of freedom and  can help people in ways far more than just posting on a forum. It has soo many practical applications that people use a lot.

Seriously if the net was shutdown along with this idiotic Defense Act (which the Supreme court will likely smack down) I'm heading to Canada. I was already planning on it someday but it may seem to be less temporary now lol.
