Sorry, Bioware.

Isn't this off topic? Unless EA is one of the companies advocating SOPA.

EA is a supporter of SOPA, as are SONY, Universal, Disney, MPAA, RIAA--essentially all the big media corps...

I said goodbye to SONY and Ubisoft last year. The gaming companies are strangling the PC gaming industry.

AFAIK, O R I G I N is the major off topic still, even in Off-Topic.

The way I understand it, the Supreme Court can only smack this down if an alleged terroist challenges the law, and you can only challenge a law if you get a trial.

From what I know of this Defense act is that anyone who is brought in they are allowed a hearing every month. It can easily be challenged. Its the main reason why I don't suggest Obama imprison some of the idiotic Congressman who thought up this law lol.

Seriously its a ****ing Defense act that it seems our intelligence agencies are entirely against due to its stupidity.

Seriously if the net was shutdown along with this idiotic Defense Act (which the Supreme court will likely smack down) I'm heading to Canada. I was already planning on it someday but it may seem to be less temporary now lol.

Not safe in Canada either. Government here is following big media's recommendations for digital locks in our copyright bill C-11 and ignoring all the input made by individuals, groups and companies advocating for fair use. Plus like the US, Canada offers some great tax breaks to the video industry; an industry that's not even in need of a bailout with record profits.

Thinking Germany and Europe might be the place to go, since they have great consumer watchdogs for protecting the people.

Who likely have lobbyists 'advising' the advisors to the lugheads congress.

Until the Euro crisis is settled in europe I'm not going there either. Plus at least Canada isn't idiotic enough to past legislation that will allow them to imprison its citizens indefinitely.

I'm sure sites like Google, Youtube, etc are doing all they can. Maybe those sites have advice for people who want to make their voice heard.

Remember when America was about to default due to Republican (actually Tea partiers) in congress essentially holding the nation and the world hostage if the Dems didn't agree to there terms on the budget plan? Compared to that this should make you fearless lol.

If you really want to do something write letters to congressman, attempt to organize protests online and off. There are other things you can do to bring morre people into this and use popular support to make sure this SOPA thing doesn't happen. Not saying it will work but its something lol.

Well, you see, I'm actually really bad at political stuff, so that's why I'm easily confused at things like this, hehe...I hadn't heard of SOPA before until now. Maybe it's because I live in Europe...I take it it's a recent thing?

Well I assume it is since I've only recently been hearing about it (I've been playing new games for multiple weeks now. barely came out of my cave lol) but its likely something that has been in the works for awhile though. I still find it retarded as **** and almost as retarded as the Defense act in which Obama disappointed me by not vetoing.

Not really, it's just Klobuchar's Protect IP act back from the dead. They just had to rename it after Justin Bieber pointed out that if it passed he could be prison for his youtube pop song covers.

You Yankees are better leave the Wild West and go back to England to work as sewer cleaners or go to Australia to fight with spiders! Canada is awaiting you, good freezing up there and don't forget to dance with the bears!
@Ken, nice work. You made everyone to 'nevermind'!

I would argue that Fallout does not accurately portray nuclear physics, but then again, the "Nuke it from Orbit" argument comes from Aliens which does not portray nuclear physics accurately either.

Might have to do with the fact of American Government shooting American citizens affecting Americans and SOPA affecting the whole world?

That's understandable if you're not from America, I just can't figure out why Americans think it's a bigger deal. I should have amde that clear.

Then again that argument would only matter if the person actually wasn't joking and was being 100% serious about the Australian animals mutating.

The profession I am studying for relies heavily on the internet so I am really upset about this. After studying copyright law and censorship I am sick and tired of people trying to restrict the internet as a whole. It's unfair to those who don't participate in illegal activity. The internet affects the whole world not just the U.S., and if this thing passes everyone is going to feel it eventually.

Common sense tells me this thing isn't going to pass anyway because it's too broad and too easy to abuse.  I've been wrong before, but I really hope I'm right this time.

I totally agree with you, Enmystic. Internet is already being censored in certain areas of the world, like Korea and China, which I find utterly ridiculous. But then this is just the point of view of an European person. I think everyone should have unrestricted and uncensored access to the internet. If you give US governement this kind of power, it's gonna be abused sooner or later. Not everyone has the necessary know-how and knowledge to handle the internet, even certain politicians, I bet.

Why? There really isn't much of a argument on here or heated debates. This thread is fairly light stuff when compared to real heated political discussions.
