In my first major boss fight in DA:O, I am failing badly. My party consists of myelf (a tank), my hound, Alistair, and a Circle Mage. I have fought this battle since I got the game last year (on and off). My OCD tendencies won't allow me to give up.
So, I have used all manner of tactics (which my uncontrolled characters don't seem to follow) and have tried this battle every way I can think of. I don't want to give up on the game (too stubborn). And I won't set the game to "easy".
Does anyone have any tactical advice on how I can beat this Orge? (I've only managed to get it down to hald its hit points).

Send in the hound, have everybody else used arrows, keep healing the dog. (You have too many tanks.)

have your mage use paralyze to keep the ogre in one place. If either you or Alistair have shield pummel, save it for when the ogre picks up a party member. Stunning him will force him to drop the person (wish I knew that the first few times)

If either you or Alistair have any bows and arrows, get the other person with your hound to attack while the archer and mage stay away from the battle. Make sure everyone is at completely different areas of the tower. EG: Mage- outer north end, Archer-outer south end. That is what I did to defeat the ogre on my first playthrough. This way, the Ogre cannot attack more than one person at a time.

Also, if you picked up any fire bombs or acid flasks or anything, they are quick ways to take off a chunk of HP without having to get too close.

Yup good advice here. Keep him at range. If you pile onto him he can damage you all with each attack - and he will.

Best advice is to give everyone bows, make them all split up and then make whoever he wants to fight run away from him while the others just shoot. Always works. In fact it feels a bit like cheating. And flasks/bombs/grenades are very useful on him.

This method is known as kiting and is a pretty handy way to take on many bosses and mini-bosses.

Depending on what abilities you have, two tanks shield-bashing etc can actually melee the ogre pretty well. But kiting is the easiest way to take him out.

Keep three party members where they are, and hit him ranged. He'll go for one of them instantly. Just have that character run around like a Benny Hill sketch, while your ranged characters hit him full of holes. Eventually, the ogre will start attacking someone else. Switch to that character, and begin the Benny Hill routine until he drops down dead.

Well, I finally got the Ogre.I had my druid hide behind some barrels, and the Ogre couldn't do much accept throw rocks and stomp. I just finally zapped him to death.
