So I had it all set up so I could spare Loghain, make Alistair king, send Anora to the tower and have Loghain kill the dragon so I could run off to Orlaise with Leliana. My female elven mage and he had broken up for the good of the Kingdom. We didn't win the landsmeet but Alistair easily defeated Loghaine in thye duel. After it's over he looks at me, nods then lops off his head without any further discussion. GAAAAA!!!!
At least we did the DR so I didn't die after offing the ArchDemon. However my plans for lesbian bliss fell through when Leliana went look after the shrine and didn't want me to come with her. I feel so unfulfilled! At least I still my dog.
What did I do wrong?

I'm pretty sure a unhardened Alistair will run away if you spare Loghain. Hardened Alistair married to Anora will be upset, but will stay the King. I'm not sure if Hardened Alistair King solo will stay if you spare Loghain.

I tried this recently and he still pouted and whinge he wanted Loghain's head and slunked off when the Warden refused to comply. Either friend or lover, he always had this sick hurt betrayed puppy look and lines that made me want to smack him down.
I have to say Morrigan described him most aptly. He's a nice fella but lagged behind terribly when it came to understanding the "picture". I did DA II with him slunking off import, a first , and he was at the Hanged Man, drinking. The funny thing was, he was all dressed up so I suppose Arl Eamon was slipping him money on the side. He did look ... sorta dirty, rundown. Must have aged badly than the Warden.

True. The only way to get Alistair to stay King if you want to save Loghain is to harden Alistair AND have him agree to marry Anora. Both conditions need to be met. Otherwise he'll leave and Anora will rule.

There's also the fact that, if you're in a relationship with Leliana, she'll always go with you, so you probably messed up on her end too.

Yes, it's not possible. The only way for Alistair to be king if Loghain lives is if you harden him and have him marry Anora. He can only be solo king if Loghain is dead.

I did have Allistair hardened and both he and Anora had agreed to the marriage so sending her to the tower wasn't really that much of goal so that was the only good thing that worked out. The romance with Leliana had fallen through also but we had still talked about traveling together after that so I was dissappointed when she spurned me.
