Nihil Trilogy II: Chains of Misfortune

Part 2 of 3

Final Version [008]

--------------------------------------
Meaning:

This mod is based on the concept of 'Nihilism', which is a
philosophical doctrine suggesting the annihilation of the self, or the
individual consciousness.

--------------------------------------
Module Summary:

Chains of Misfortune is the second chapter of the Nihil Trilogy, and
takes place after the events of the first of the series 'Awakening.'

--------------------------------------
Story Summary:

Your actions under Enigma's dominance have left you scarred. In
response you retreated into the depths of your mind. Now that the iron
is hot, you must take back your mind from Enigma and escape the
nightmare for which is now your reality.

--------------------------------------
Setting:

You can play your own role, that of another, or mix them up, all is
open to an Asper. Though it takes place in it's own world, it can be
incorporated into most other medieval fantasy settings, which allows
about anybody's character to fit in.

--------------------------------------
Mythological References:

As with the first part, there are many ambiguous references, both
direct and indirect, to the Mythology of Greek/Roman, Norse, Britain,
Judeo-Christian and others, with focus on the former in this mod. A bit
of edutainment for you, so see if you can uncover them.

--------------------------------------
Mini-games:

(Though not part of the main storyline, there are multiple mini-games scattered throughout the last two-thirds of the module)

-Harold's 'A Game of Darts'

-Arachne’s 'Rug-Matching'

-Wanderlust's 'What's in my Chests'

-Waldo's 'What's Wrong with the Scene'

-Martin's 'Count the Stones'

--------------------------------------
Echo Remnants:

A new currency system was added to this module alongside the
original gold system. You can trade Echo Remnants for multiple bonuses
in this module:

-Weapon/Armor upgrades

-Fabrication of gold

-Revival of a Certain Character

-Upgrades to Your Animal Keepsake

--------------------------------------
Hidden Characters:

There are three optional characters in the module. The first two are
apparent, the last one may require you to play a certain mini-game to
'open-up' and each one will have a place in the last part of the
Trilogy.

--------------------------------------
Level Requirement:

Note that the first area of this module checks if your level 8 and
above, if you're not it will give you the necessary amount of experience
to get to that level, but note that Races with ECLs of +1 or greater
will start at lower levels.

--------------------------------------
Installation: (Note this Uses A Campaign)

Step 1
Use 7zip or Winrar or other extractor to extract the
'(Final_Version_007)-Nihil_2_Chains_Of_Misfortune' Folder from the 'zip'
file. If anyone has any problems, let me know.

Step 2
Open the Extracted Folder

Step 3
(Important: Replace the Previous One From Last Game)
Cut and Paste the 'nihilhaks.hak' and place it into the folder under
My Documents/Neverwinter Nights 2/hak

Step 4
Cut and Paste the 'Nihil_Trilogy_Part_II_Chains_Of_Misfortune.mod' module and place it into the folder under
My Documents/Neverwinter Nights 2/modules

Step 5
Cut and Paste the 'Nihil Trilogy II--Chains of Misfortune' folder and paste it under
My Documents/Neverwinter Nights 2/Campaigns

Step 6

Start up the Neverwinter Nights 2 game and choose the option called
'New Game,' then 'Campaigns,' and select the
'Nihil_Trilogy_Part_II_Chains_Of_Misfortune' campaign.

Step 7
Pick any character you wish or choose the one from the previous game, and start up the game.

Step 8
Enjoy the game!

Post-Release Updates:

(Fixes As Of 2/23/12)

-Blanket 30000xp is omitted from the start of the game for being
less than 30001xp(level 8), and replaced by a subtraction algorithm that
subtracts your xp from the xp you need to get to 30001xp. Note if xp is
higher than 30001, then the game will simply let you through.
-I hid the 'shadow of Elidiser' that resides on the beach until after you talk to Fey.
-Minor spelling/grammar corrections

--------------------------------------
Fixes Prior to Release:
-Many iterations of Spelling/Grammar Correction, but no doubt one or two still exists somewhere.
-New SideQuest
-New MiniGame
-Ending Connected and The Game Complete

Fixes as of (1/22/2012):
-Fixed Elidiser's Stats
-Fixed serious bug with Lira inventory and character sheet
-Numerous changes to spelling and grammar (English Major agreed to go over some of it)
-Fixes to Chest Game Dialogues
-Several Miscellaneous Changes

Fixes as of (1/13/2012):
-(Fixed) Issues with Cat Summon: claw and speed issues.
-(Fixed but still under Review) Replaced Echo Creature Sounds
-(Fixed) Universal Word Change: Engima->Enigma
-(Fixed but still Undecided) Changes to a large host of spelling/grammar/punctuation errors throughout the mod.

Fixes as of (1/8/2012):
-(Fixed and set to 7.5k) Showing Thomas the bookseller the book gave 30k XP, seems a bit excessive.
-(Changed) What is going on with that stump and leaf pile set default to attack in the Headhunter's clearing?
-(Under Review) Misty Woods camera angles need some tweaking
-(Fixed) Villager by the doorway at the inn gave an ERROR response instead of dialogue a couple of times
-(Fixed) In Dialogue with Hypatia at the orphanage, Carved not craved, and humorous not humerous.
-(Fixed) Archer's Dialogue error " something I wish to discuss" was
probably meant to be " Not something I wish to discuss" or something
similiar. you left out a negative.

Fixes as of (12/19/2011):
-Fixed the nihilhak to include the rws files, as well as the missing  pebble-beach file, and updated module requirements to exclude those rws haks. (Download the latest at your convenience)

Fixes as of (12/22/2011):
-Fixed a empty journal entry post obtained from the forms in the Mindscape.
-Made a number of fixes to misspelled/misused words in the mod.
-Reduced experience points given from some of the side-quests to better balance the mod.

Epic! I can't wait for the release! (but I don't have free time to test and bug hunt)

No worries BartjeD, time is limited, especially with given the long duration of the Neverwinter Nights 2 game itself. Still, if anyone has any time to spare to look over the mod before its release, it would not only help there be less eyesores on its actual release, but it would certainly help it to get released sooner rather than later, and of course all testers will be cited in the final release. Thanks.

That is a nice title picture. Were you able to create that in the toolset? I'm just thinking, there is the raven placed effect, and maybe with the right view from a static camera through the crypts tileset that has chains hanging down. Anyway, with the right beam vfx, it could be something in game.

Good luck with the testing.

Harumph!

It indicated I was missing an rws hak and a pebble_beach texture when I opened it in toolset. The hak and texture are not mentioned on the release page.

Area design is, as before, excellent. I especially like the tent interior solution.

Thanks for your prompt notification of the missing files kamal_, on not only on this forum but also the one on NW-Vault. Hopefully this latest update deals with the last of the concerns with the files, but if not then please notify me right away. Thanks again and now let the Alpha Phase recommence.

My deepest appreciation to those few testers who took a portion of their time to test out the Alpha-Version of this module. I plan to release the Beta-Version, which includes the rest of the storyline just up to the end for which then be implemented in the full release, by next week so if there are any last minute changes or suggestions for this module before the Beta-Version is released then let me know. Thanks.

Beta Version 005 Released:

Thanks to the tremendous efforts of CaptainZombieYeti and Arkalezth, who aided me to identify and fix a large host of errors in the mod's (004) update and prior, for which the details are located in the main thread above. I believe that solves most of the remaining problems, but no doubt some problems remain, especially in spelling/grammar. In effect, I'll leave the latest update(005) up for a couple more weeks and see if any remaining problems pop up, and depending on those, the final version of the mod will be released sometime thereafter. Thanks again.

Beta Version 006 Released

Thanks to the efforts of Arkalezth, roadsaint, CaptainZombieYeti, and some help from an English Major(on-going), I've just released the 006 version of the mod.

Note that the Mod's Ending is Included:
Admittingly, this part includes the ending of the mod, which is something I don't usually unlock until the final version, but a friend recommended that it is better to know in this stage of development then to uncover problems in that section after the full-version's release, and so I've included the ending of the mod into this version of the beta for testing and suggestions.

I've already posted this above, but here is the link to the latest Beta Version 006:

No worries, Arkalezth. You were a great help during the testing phases, and really appreciate it.

As promised, I took note to both cite you, as well as the other testers, on the forums as well as on a in-game examinable placeable in the mod's lobby room. If time allows, take a look. Thanks again.

What can I say? I'm bad at advertising. As chapters go, I highly recommend playing, Awakening, first. It's not a requirement, but aside from background information, there are a few select optional items that can be carried over from the first part. One of which, may be highly relevant in the final part of the series, for which I aim at releasing between the end of this year to early winter of 2013.

With the '100' download marker on the NW-Vault reached in a week of its official release, and with a minor update going up in a few days, I would appreciate it if anyone would like to share their experiences, both good and bad, while playing this mod. Most of the problems should have been accommodated for during the Alpha/Beta Tests, but, as with the minor update going up in a few days, there are some issues that pass such scrutiny. So let me know. Thanks.

I’ve just released my (008) update to handle some minor issues that were uncovered after release. With that done, unless there is drastic need, I won’t be releasing another update for awhile. The mod is for all intents and purposes, done. Thanks again to sirchet and Oceanborne for their contributions. Enjoy.

This mod series is something a bit diffrent. Played the first part and ran across two minor problems, the rat catching mini game didn't work. I could click on the rats but I got no feedback as to any counter or anything so just left it and went on with the game. The other was my feamle PC kept being called a he :) As this only really happened during the campfire talk with your party in the woods I didn't worry about too much but it did look odd :D

I've really enjoyed part two so far but have run into a really nasty gamestopper. I'm up to fightinbg in the arena and simply put I cannot kill my oppoments. I get them to near death but they just will not die. I can't go any father.
