Sexuality shouldn't be marketed altogether.

Um, that doesn't make sense?  The game is a product, so everything about it is "marketed" to an audience in some way or another.  That includes the romance options.

Of course, but highlighting sexuality as in ******/bi/hetrosexual brings just as many annoyed sighs as releived sighs.

Then people who think it's horribly wrong can just choose to not pursue the romantic interests. I mean...a catholic priest goes and looks at some porn and then complains that porn exists...

Don't like it, don't look at it. Don't want romance options, don't go down the romance path. It'll leave the game feeling a little empty. Kinda like how someone's life might feel without loved ones.

Agreed, but that doesn't change a marketing strategy to ensnare most consumers possible.

I'm not against any ******/bisexual content if you think i was implying that.
Just stating facts of basic marketing strategies.

Yes, it was frustrating having Aveline completely ignore my Hawke's continual flirting and choose Donnic. I wish Hawke and Donnic could duel it out for her love. How romantic.

Ha! Oh that would go real well.

Aveline: "Let me get this straight. You two are going to make my choice for me by punching each other in the face and I get the winner? Are you baboons? Because you're making me choose the brightest ass."

Baboons, ha! I adore Aveline.

From whom...?  Most of the gay gamer blogs I've read are excited about DA bi romances.  One I read DID have a few negative things to say about Zevran, but more because he accused him of being a stereotype.

I haven't seen anywhere that anyone was annoyed or offended by the bi romances, and it is a great selling tool: in the past, if you wanted to initiate a gay romance, too bad so sad.  Now you can.  BOOM, sales go up.  It's as simple as that.  Everyone is happy now (except LGBT haters).

In another forum I frequent, someone started a thread in the gaming section asking if there are any games out there that actually have realistic gay romances in them.  He was very excited when I and a couple others pointed him to DA:O and DA2!

There were quite a number of complaints on the BSN when DA II came out.

Mostly, that Anders makes the first move towards a male Hawke.

Although "bi" is the default for LIs in future DA games it does NOT mean that all LIs will be "bi." If the writers decide that they want a character to be "straight" or "gay" for story reasons they will do so. At least that is the impression I get from various BW posts I have seen in the BSN.

Hopefully this is true. It seems kinda silly to me that all characters would just magically be "bi." I know plenty of people, as well as being one myself...who are set in their ways as to which sex they prefer. I know a few people who don't seem to care, but they are by FAR the minority.

O_o

where was this said by a dev? or is that just your interpretation of something they said. I know there was a post somewhere that one of them said it's cheaper and easier on reasources to make everyone bisexual but that doesn't mean everyone is defaulted to bisexual unless otherwise stated.

anyway to be back on topic - i'd like to have heterosexual intercourse with Sebastian Vael, but I can't. :( Looks like both the OP and I are left wanting in that sense....

Well, true, the writers can do whatever they want; they can make them ALL straight or ALL gay if that's what they'd prefer.  But it makes more sense to provide more love interests to the player.  You sell more games that way.  You appeal to more buyers.

It depends on what you as a player want in a game like this.  If you want it to be more true to life, then you should be able to fall in love with someone, hit on him/her, and then be rejected because he/she reveals that he/she likes the opposite gender.  Well, I don't know about you, but I'd probably be depressed if that happened in a game ... not unlike I would be in real life lol

I play games because they're FUN and not necessarily like real life, with all its dreary misery and darned realism.  In a game, if my hot guy sees another hot guy, I wanna be able to go over there and say hello ;)

There's nowhere that says Sebastian isn't Bi. He very well could be. Hell, he could have been gay, we don't know. It doesn't matter. He's a chantry brother who has taken a vow of celibacy. It's one of the few things he DOES NOT falter on. Not even for a female Hawke.

There are a lot of reasons to dislike Seb. Most of mine are because he doesn't make up his mind ever, a bit like a child in that he always looks to Hawke to make his desisions for him throughout the course of the game.

His sexuality is one of the few things he's firm on, and that's a simple "no." It's a good quality. He's honest with his vows and does not break them, even when Rivaled.

As for not being able to hit on him as a male Hawke ---

Maybe Hawke -did- hit on him, Seb turned him down flat... and Hawke and Seb decided never to speak of it again (Aka, off-screen). then Hawke poked Varric till he took that chapter out. Besides, a "HEY BEBE" "NO" scene is... not riveting stuff in story telling.

It's called roleplaying. You want your Hawke to hit on Seb? Good, your Hawke hit on Seb and he said no in the most kindly, chantry priest way possible. Then they moved on and Hawke hopped into bed with Fenris/Anders.

Sheesh, of all the silly reasons not to have Seb. :P

What I'd also like to point out is that Seb is the only attractive male LI.

:-O  No way, I think Anders is a hottie :P  He seems tall and somewhat broad-shouldered (even if he does have those spindly little arms) and his pouty lip is sexy.

Sebastian is also a nice-looking man, but there's something a touch ... feminine ... about him.  Not sure how else to put it.  He's pretty.  Very good-looking, definitely.  Just not my type.

Well, you do have to pay for him, so... LOL I only bought him recently because I was dead bored and thought it might liven my game up a bit.  But yeah, annoying I can't romance him.  (I have very little interest in playing a F!Hawke; don't ask me why.  *punches self*)

And it was BS too. I bet if it was a girl they'd be squeeling over the fact a girl actually flirted with their ugly asses.
god I hate straight people.

I'm with MotoMoto on this one lol. Frankly, I find Seb to be quite piggish in his attitudes -which I know is kind of ironic- but he's very much invested in the establishment and neither my Hawke's or my RPG'ing self can handle that lol. Also, while he's relatively pretty on the eyes I find Anders way more attractive in all ways.

Anders is tall, I love his shorty pony tail, I love his five o'clock shadow, his voice, his passion, his eyes, broad shoulders, height..just ..yummmmmmmmmmmmm. :D  To me- he's the perfect balance of masculinity and vulnerability.

I am a heterosexual woman but I really do not care a fig if all of the LI's are bi- yay for everyone, the more the merrier, hoorah! :)  I'd rather everyone have the choices they want as far as our DA2 and DA3 lovers.

What I find the most hilarious about this is as the poster above mentions that you could view Sebastion as 'rejecting you off screen' for RPG purposes whereas he rejects us ladies up front and center due to his utterly faithful to Andraste self- I can't help but imagine the Chantry says no to gays like RL lol. (and no, I don't abide by that, I think everyone should have the right to love anyone in an adult consentual manner).

Actually ... I'm kind of glad he only confronts the ladies.  My Hawke would be all sad if pretty boy prince turned him down D:

When you think about it, it's kind of funny that we have someone like Sebatian ... the polar opposite of Mr. "I know we just met and all BUT I'M TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH YOU!!!!!" Anders :P

I can relate to Anders- I'm a fool for love like that Posted Image.  LOL- I know that people are reasonably dubious about a love or romance that happens so quickly, but I imagine it has less to do with the amount of time vs the lack of substance within that time in the case of Anders in DA2. (and on a side note..I met my husband at age 17 and knew instantly he was the man for me..and we've been together for 18 years now lulz Posted Image).  I agree with a lot other fans that love and romance in DA2 felt like passing notes in middle school and then you move in right after you reply "Y" to the note passed to you- it can feel abrupt compared to say- taking your sweet time romancing the completely awesome Alistair.

Nahhh totally disagree with those folks.  I've only romanced Anders once, but I thought the romance was incredibly sweet and adorable.  Still very adult, but Anders is really just a big puppy of a man.  He practically gets hearts in his eyes when he's looking at Hawke.  That's fine; like you said, some people are just like that!

Not all the romances are like that.  I usually romance Fenris, and gosh, what a (loveable) pain in the arse he is.  It's rough getting him to admit his feelings for Hawke.  In fact, Hawke has to literally prompt him a second time, similar to the Warden prompting Zevran about the earring.  Fenris says something like "I wish I could have said more that day" or something, and Hawke is like, well??? What would you have said?  Fenris: *mumble mumble* I wubble you, Hawke.

It cracks me up every time

well they obviously didn't have a problem with the isabella come ons. as a female, i also really appreciated anders taking the initiative.

i'm also started to believe you made this as a troll topic with every post you make. :?

And yet, it never gets old. *Snerk* Oh Fenris, just suck it up and be happy. You know you wnat it.

Don't you wish that we had more breathy moans from Anders, though?

I wish I could get me so Vael loving, it would be fantastic to be the homosexual lover of a prince. XD But alas, it was not ment to be. I'll just make due with Fenris and Anders. *Cackle* Bawhaha.
