Are you sure you can't squeeze Jimmy Hinson in there? Believe me, I am truly thankful that Sam Hulick is on the team, as well as the individuals who composed the music for 90% of the DLC, but I actually found myself liking Jimmy Hinson's work as much as Jack Wall's.
Plus, the music he composed for the ME2 score meshed well with the darker tone of the game, while retaining the feel of the ME1 score.

Wow, I think music is really important in games and this list sounds great!

Just one question though: Whatever happened to Jack Wall? Is he still involved?

Oh ... Uh well, that's a bit of a shame though. I hope BW didn't just boot him out 'cause they got all the big names all of a sudden. After all, he was in from the start.

He probably got da boot but BW officially just said he wanted to work on other projects, =].

Music sounds like it should be in Dragon Age LOL! Im in love! If all the music is great as always, then I have no fear of music sucking. For a sec I honesty thought that was part of the track from DAO

I believe Jack said it himself that he parted from the Mass Effect series on good terms. It seems like he honestly just wanted to work on new things.

sounds very halo-ish throughout the first half, except for the little mass effect tune at the very end.

I'm going to make an educated guess and say this is a sample from the romance music in ME3. It has the same slower, melancholy  tempo and lower note range that really make that music stand out from the rest of the scores of both games. Not that that's a bad thing; the romance music is one of my favorite parts of each game.

Although, with the amazing Clint Mansell as the chief composer, I think we might see more music like this through the game.

sam is back! awesome news. when he released "shepard's return" as a teaser of what could have been, i was so sad; seeing as it is a reality, christmas came a little early.

Very great but i think it would be better in some kind of fantasy game, but the ending tells that it is mass effect that we hear.

I admit I was a bit bummed when Jimmy/BigGiantCircles wasn't listed as someone doing some tracks since I've been an OCR supporter for a few years now and thought it was awesome that someone from there would get mainstream exposure like that. However, that being said, if he says that the soundtrack's going to be good and epic, then I'm tempted to take his word on it.

I think it reflects a depressing lack of continuity and vision, and I wonder if Hulick is credited simply because of the main theme's reprise.

I think sixty seconds of music don't reflect on the whole album at all. Mr. Hulick is probably composing the larger chunk of the soundtrack, since he has been tweeting like crazy since the announce :)

Unlikely even if it hadn't been debunked. Sam Hulick was in from the beginning too, and he's still in--that teaser's from him, as Ms. Merizan mentioned.

And I love it. Sam Hulick's great. Much of the music that gave me epic chills in the first game came from him. He was responsible for the ME main theme, which is one of the best pieces of music ever, really telling the ME story without ever saying a word. Sovereign's theme as well, which drove one of the most epic dark moments of the first game.

Wall is really talented, but I have to think Sam is a sort of--not unsung, but less-sung hero here. For me, a majority of the more essential pieces which defined the first game and made those moments so memorable seem to have come from him. All the music which made me hold my breath and shiver with the awe of the moment, in ME at least, seems to have his name on it.

He's also pretty cute, if you ask me. But that's beside the point. The point is, he's hardly as famous as Mansell or Lennertz, but Bioware asked him back--unsurprisingly.

That could be. Generally, though, the teaser pieces are not going to be the big-moment pieces. Those you want to save so that those big moments have their full impact. We can only really judge when we hear the game. This piece might be perfect for the moment for which it serves as the backdrop.

ugh...I know. I was hella bummed out, too. Of all of the tracks on the main soundtrack and the Combat and Atmospheric soundtracks that I really liked, Jimmy wrote most of them.

According to the OC Remix interview, and an email reply that I received from Jimmy, these are the tracks that he composed:

Mass Effect 2 OST

  • A Rude Awakening
  • The Normandy Reborn
  • Samara
  • Grunt
  • Tali
Atmospheric
  • Finding Samara
  • Pure Krogan

Combat
  • Gunship Battle
  • Gathering Charges
  • Mother vs. Daughter
  • Collector Fever
  • Testing Memories
  • Infiltration
  • Grunt Awakens
  • The Long Walk
  • The Final Reckoning (w/Jack Wall)

I very much enjoyed the soundscapes in Lair of the Shadowbroker, the Afterlife Club and the build up to the finale of ME2. I used to play around with the music selector in the Captain's quarters but it was mainly on a short loop.
