I'm ****ing stoked.

As much of a censor bypass that is, I'll be mighty pissed if it gets modded. That was brilliantly put and explains how I feel in three simple words! =D

Can someone please bring a hammer to my head so I can wake up on the 9th of March, already? I can't strengthen my preorder any harder any more, I think. So might as well just float with the fishes or whatever.

No, it's not.  A censor bypass is when you use alternate characters to fool the filter and avoid having the offending string converted to asterisks.

Oh well. At least Hulick is on the team. And the stuff of the DLC wasn't bad either. I hope that the ME (1) synth styled music from Arrival is gonna be present big time.

You're *breathe* mocking *breathe* my Swedish English *breathe*, Earth-clan?! ;) Odd grammar I had going right there though, indeed! ^^

But hm, I figured not blocking out the entire word was a censor bypass as well. Perhaps BSN doesn't roll that way though =)

Anyone else getting an epilogue vibe from the music teaser?

Yeah, I most definitely am as well. Especially with the ending music from after the SM of ME2 woven in at the end of the track.

That melody isn't originally from the ME2 ending.  It's from the main ME theme.

Nah.  The nanny filter is kinda dumb.  It just blocks out whatever substring happens to match a "naughty" word.

Funny how you can't use the 'f-word' on a forum for a game that has a character that uses the word in every sentence she speaks.

Well, she doesn't use it nearly that often, but yes, it's a bit silly.

Its a beautiful piece - but it doesn't sound Mass Effecty.

I suppose context is needed, because the romance music from ME1 felt out of a place with the rest of the music.

But its still a fantastic piece, the first half is very haloish. Which is always a good thing.

Edit : Never mind - just saw this post - http://social.biowar...56159/2#8856617
Sounding superb.

All of my doubts about the soundtrack are now gone! I absolutely loved Arrival's soundtrack and believed that should be the direction for ME3 in terms of music (synthesis of and call backs to the best parts of ME1 & ME2's soundtrack). Now knowing that Sascha Dikiciyan and Cris Velasco are working on ME3, I am stoked! And Sam Hulick working on it doesn't hurt either :)

I believe that's a neatly straightforward way of putting how we all feel. Or at least the majority. Can't fathom how someone can't approve of such an awesome team of composers.

I personally do think the sound of the team is great, even though I personally found the DLC music not quite as good as the vanilla stuff. Having Sam Hulick still aboard is a big plus too, even with Jack Wall gone. It was more the individual sample I didn't find particularly impressive personally rather than the team. That said, I did find some of the music samples used in the N7 Collector's Edition video to be fantastic. That won me over after my doubts about Mansell fitting Mass Effect and fears that we'd lose the synth in favour of too much orchestral and too much overblown, overdramatic stuff as if it were a pretentious drama movie. And to be honest, that's what this sample sounded more like to me personally.

Ah, if it's there too, then it's in both places. It is played in ME2 just as they are showing the Reapers approaching the galaxy.

Every Mass Effect game had the cheesy orchestral pieces which made me cringe a bit, this sample wasn't the worst imho :) And with Sam Hulick on board, I don't think the synths will be lost or the tone of the series gone, quite the contrary.

Hey everyone! Cris Velasco here. Just wanted to say that I'm extremely excited to be a part of ME3 and I can't wait for you all to hear the music that we've done!

Hi Cris. Great to see you here. Big fan of your Arrival work, I think the last track we hear in it (where Shepard's running outside in vaccuum with the Alpha Relay looming larger) is probably my favorite ME2 music track. Can't wait to see what you do in ME3.

I've never understood this. What defines a "Mass Effecty" type of music? And if a piece isn't Mass Effect-y, does that make it not good for Mass Effect?

Does Mass Effecty mean that the scores include a moody synth, with beeps and boops here and there to give a type of futuristic feel? Because to be honest, the tracks that I remember from the Mass Effect series are NEVER these types of tracks. The "orchestrated" ones, like the song after Sovereign's defeat, the end of the suicide mission, and this teaser, are the songs that stick with me most.

I think it's too heavy on the string intruments myself, after listening to it a few times. That's kind of what makes it not seem "Mass Effecty" really besides the fact that it's heavily orchestral: there's nothing that really says "sci-fi" about it, which even the more orchestral Mass Effect stuff did. As I said before, it could go with any dramatic movie score, sci-fi or not. It's a bit heavy-handed, like it's trying too hard and using more or an orchestra than it needs to.

Put it this way: it sounds more like "The London Symphony Orchestra performs Mass Effect" than music directly from Mass Effect. The fan tribute to Mass Effect posted a few months ago was far more akin to and representative of Mass Effect than this demo piece is, IMO.

Sounds great. I hope most of the score though has a more electronic feel, like score of ME1 but way better, like say the Daft Punk score of Tron: Legacy. I also hope to hear reworkings of some the great music from the ME2 DLC.

Terror_K: That description could also be applied to this piece straight from ME1 which the teaser music is only another iteration of...it only depends on context of use

Morning, guys, I -- *sees what he's walked into* ....I should go.

;) But seriously. I wanna add my two cents to this whole crazy "synth vs orchestral" discussion. I'll come back later and comment in full.
