Did anyone actually like the robes? With the exception of a few (the Spiral Eye set comes to mind), I really disliked having to wear the robes again. It was like being teased by being given actual practical, good-looking clothing for my mages to wear and then being forced (well, not technically, but the armor stats were better) to put on the traditional robes. Can't we have a middle ground? I loved Merrill and Bethany's clothing-they had robe-like overtones but still had trousers on and could move in them, and they didn't look bad because of how hard it is to render cloth well. Something like this- http://i842.photobuc...13-48-54-47.jpg    That's a screenshot from Guild Wars 2, but it's a good example of what I'd like mage clothing to look like. And the best part is, it isn't a bikini either. Also, there are examples like this Anders-esque robe.

Basically, I'm interested in anything that involves pants or differing lengths (like the tevinter robes in DA:O) and isn't a boring dress. Don't get me wrong, all of the robes looked better, but I still prefer the more practical-looking ones.

And if we can't have more in DA3, wouldn't it be nice to have some sort of system where we can edit how we look independently of stats? I have no idea how tough that would be to implement, but I know Mike Laidlaw mentioned that they were leaning towards companions having customizable armor but their visual appearance staying the same. Would it be so inconceivable for us to be able to put on a set of armor and then visit a tailor or something to change the skin of how it looks on our character?

I fully support pants for mages.

I don't know why mages don't just adopt the Sith dress code. Simple black robes with hoods, that sort of thing. The occasional creepy mask.

Agreed. I'm replaying right now, and I always wonder how my mage Hawke can fight in what is essentially a dress.

Yeah. It's not even so much that it's impractical so much as the non-robey robes look sooooo much better. And I don't mean because of graphics. I think the graphics could be as real as possible, and looks more like the links I posted will always look better.

I'm in support of this idea. I have always wondered WHY a mage would try to run around in a robe(dress). As a woman I can tell you from experience, fighting in a skirt does not work. (that was a while back, I'm much nicer now)

There are several sets that are not robes.  One set that drops that is called Free Adept Robes is not a robe set.

There are also some you can get from the merchants. Your mages do not have to wear robes at all.

Maybe I missed a few, but there were points when the best available I had were robes. I loved the ones that were available for the most part, I just want more of them. I still think the best compromise would be to let us customize the way armor looks on our characters independently of what the armor actually is. I suppose you could still use unique skins for certain sets.

The robes are terrible. Probably they look better on lady Hawke, but man Hawke just looks like a fat bear. The only robes that didn't make him look like a slob are freaking Chantry robes (you can't wear those!) that they reused so they didn't have to do any more robe models.

I had to play nearly the entire game in that outfit you get in Year 1 because the robes were so hideous, the DLC had only low-res textures, and I didn't do Legacy (which gives you Warden pants) until very late.

But I've always been at war with the art team over the crap they try to pull here. I had to play the entirety of Origins in Mage Robe because those Tevinter frocks were so wretched. And those hats—for the love of god, somebody stop these people.

The Fugitive's Mantle, Malcolm's Bequest, and the Champion armor set are mage robes that come to mind that aren't completely robe-y, as they're a mix between armor and robes.

I hate Malcolm's Bequest though. It looks stupid imo.

I also like the Grey Warden Mage robes.

The Fugitive's Mantle, Malcolm's Bequest,

They're low-res, though, which makes them unusable in the PC version.

The Champion set is good (except for the damn hulk arm), but you of course don't get it until nearly the end.

And the "pants" model (that you get at Year 1) is pretty random to be able to find better versions (you either have to get lucky at the shops or with a random drop), so you're stuck until you do Legacy or you get the Champion set (Item Pack #2 might work, but I haven't played since its release).

There's also some pimpin' lavender suit that you can pick up, The Dainty Pirate's Unmentionables or something.

You just can't win in this game. It's ass, compounded.

Here's Item Pack 2's Mage set

Kinda cool, though I could've sworn it looked different when I put it on my Hawke. Meh.

And you were thinking about Robes of the Notorious Pirate

Oh, yes, please! Better robes for mages. And beter hoods. Most hoods are even worse than the robes. Hawke looks like a clown.

My mage Hawke wore the item pack 2 set until the champion set became available. Despite the lack of visually appealing attire for mages in both DA games, the mage champion armor is my favorite amongst the various classes.

Yeah, I think the champion set is probably my favorite. I've got the game on a PS3 that's not online so I can't get the DLC stuff, but I wish I could; a lot of it looks awesome.

I liked how Aldenon's Vestments made my mage look more like a battlemage, and less like a circle mage or priest. The chain part was a plus because it looked like it might actually protect my mage, at least somewhat, from a slashing attack, where regular robes are mostly cloth.

Too bad mages in DA2 don't get hand of winter, as that spell was reason alone to pick up the battlemage spec.

Hopefully mages in DA3 get more leather/chain options for armor.

QFT!

Yes Weapons and armors are terribly looking ones in da2.. am not sure whats up with all the deformed ****.
Deformed is  neither cool  nor beautiful to look at, is compleatly the opposite.

Here are some hoods just need different colours and very important---> to MATCH an ARMOR SET. Hopefully they dont stuck a flower on top of it..

If the hoods are too much work then add  some Tiaras:

I would have liked to see some tiaras/crowns as headgear options.

I liked Viscount Dumar's outfit, but unfortunately, the closest option is the item pack 1 set, and the headgear completely covers Hawke's face.

After Dumar's demise, I wanted to track down his headless corpse and take his outfit.

Robes are just not practical clothing for a traveller or a mercenary. I dunno why wizard = robes is such a mainstay of the Fantasy genre, but I blame Tolkien, like I do for all the tired cliches in contemporary fantasy.

I was actually quite pissed when it turned out that the Mage Champion's hood was the same generic hood I could pick up anywhere. That's pretty much my most serious gripe with the game.
