First, HBC Dresden, your sig is awesome. Do you know why? Because I took your pulse.

Back on topic, I think the word limit has helped me write a better story than I probably would have otherwise. And just to sate my curiosity, anybody found it easier to write with music? I know I played different songs to inspire my writing on different scenes. One scene I'm particularly proud of, I wrote it while listening to "Rage and Serenity" (X-Men First class OST).

I find that it does help for me. Music helps me tune out the rest of the world, but on that note, sometimes I find it can be distracting. This really only happens when the song itself is telling a different story then what I'm trying to write (or code). So for this reason I try to stick with movie and game soundtracks when I need to get things done.

Hmm...I'm not sure if it has been asked yet or not, but is the perspective of a Dalish mage allowed? Because I wanted to do something kinda cool with an elven mage from an Alienage joined with a Dalish clan. Considering that the rules just say 'mage', I assumed any type of mage was acceptable. However, I thought I'd ask for confirmation first.

Thanks! :)

Blood of the pure

Guyn fears the Harrowing like the world fears the Darkspawn, but the hand of Enchanter Egret calms her fears.
He promises her to guide her overcome her fears; he promises her success and greatness.
The Harrowing, said Enchanter Egret, is like a trial of love. If you pass, then love isn’t just a word and a mage isn’t just a jester doing tricks for fools.
But the Fade, the Fade isn’t a place for neither pretty words nor promises.

Entry sent!

Probably. But you should keep as a circle mage to keep it in spirit of contest.

Sorry for the double post, for some reason I can not edit my main post.
So, I've sent the mail but I see nothing on the outbound folder, I don't know if the mail was sent or not. Are we going to get a follow up mail or should I resend it?

You should post your abstract on the abstract thread to be sure.

Well, if that's the case, I'd have to throw out my whole idea.  Ehh...I'll just do it with a Dalish mage regardless.  It isn't specified in the rules, so I'll just go in thinking it's fine until stated otherwise.  Oh well if it isn't accepted. xP

Can the story been from both a mage and templar perspective? Or does it the story have to be just about one? And by perspective are we talking first-person, POV, or...?

They did say about a Mage or a Templar. So I don't see why they would not allow for a Dalish mage. ^-^

Any perspective. There is nothing in the rules about it having to be first-person or otherwise and many of the current entries are from a whole bunch of didn't writing styles.

They also didn't say you are limited to only selecting a single character type, only that the story had to have either a mage or a templar as the main focus in honour of the new noval.

I wonder if anyone had decided to write a story from the perspective of the Dwarven mage Sandal.

That story would automatically win in my book if done right.

But Sandal isn't a mage. All dwarves are unable to weild mage. Sandal is just... special.

Sandal's a half-dwarf -- it was said in Legacy that he's the bastard son of an Aeducan and either a human or elf -- and froze an Ogre in the Deep Roads, where he said "Not Enchantment".

I certainly hope they're allowing some liberties to be taken on the standard 'templar of the circle' or 'mage of the circle', because if not then my entry will be immediately tossed out.  Mine features an unsanctioned templar hunter chasing a Somniari.

I didn't know that (haven't played Legacy). Thanks.

If he's a mage, he's unique among mages. Typical mages, or what we've seen of them so far, can't work with raw lyrium or enchant items, and Sandal does at least the second of these. Yes, if Legacy isn't talking about some other person then Sandal is at least part dwarf and probably has some genetic advantages, but the point still stands.

Mage or not, he's still special.

That would make quite a cool story if written well!  I am looking forward to seeing Sandal's next adventure in DA3.  (He and Bowden are the only characters consistantly carried over.  Some have hypothesized that we are actually following THEIR story through the eyes of those around them!  Lol!)

Anyway, thank you Bioware Staff for a really wonderful competition to kick of the Year of the Dragon.  ^-^

"Promise"

Abstract:

“Keep him close and he will betray you. Each time worse than the last.” When Flemeth spoke those words to Prince Maric Theirin about his companion Loghain Mac Tir, little did she know she would come to regret them. On that night in the forest, she extracted a promise from the future king, and set into motion a plan that would take more than thirty years to come full circle. And now, on the eve of it's completion, those words spoken about Loghain might have destroyed everything for which she had worked all these years.

(Since the codex lists Flemeth's class as "Mage," I'm assuming writing a story from her perspective is well within the rules).

(I just deleted that because it suddenly seemed like an odd crossing of online/social media something that didn't make a lot of sense.)

But - yes a Sandal story would be cool.

If my English was any good, I would've given it a shot.

But knowing my English sucks... I think I'll pass.

Good luck to anyone who enters this contest!

Sure hope Dalish mages are acceptable. I submitted one from Merrill's POV.

Then again, I submitted Bran/Serendipity for the MotA/Tallis's Armor contest, so I'm fairly rubbish at coloring in the lines. :)

As the deadline draws nearer, I'm becoming more anxious! I hope we can read the stories of the winners. =]

Good luck to everyone that's submitted! A lot of those entry summaries are very intriguing.
