Only one day left. Eek, I'm cracking under pressure. This story must be perfect though, after all the work you're putting in to reading them all, I can't let you read mindless drivel :'(

I have mine written, but I need to give it a coat of polish.

On a side note, is there any problem in posting our stories to, say, a fan fiction site once the deadline has passed and the winners have been announced?

Absolutely you can! The work is yours and we claim no ownership of it (as long as you aren't selling it, or claiming our IP as your own etc legal jargon blah blah) :wizard:

I posted it before I even began writing it. Of course, I later had to change it somewhat.:D

After reading the damned thing again for the 100th time, I found mistakes. Again. Is there a way to submit a corrected version even though one had already sent a version? These stupid mistakes are really killing me right now. I mean: paly instead of play? Duh. :crying:

Hello people this is my short bit from my story, hope you enjoy.

He took a deep breath and sighed heavily, putting up with the winds’ futile yet relentless assaults, he closed his eyes and thought back to how this mess all started all those long years ago. The sounds of the harbour reminded him of home, the gentle sound of the water playfully teasing the concrete walls of the harbour side back and forth, back and forth, all of these sights and sounds reminded him of home in his Ferelden his beloved town of Gwaren, where before he was discovered to be a Mage he lead a very different life, heading up the family business in the harbour with his Father. A business that he could no longer inherit thanks to his “Maker given curse” as he liked to describe it.

I'd like to know this too. I sent the wrong document, and sent an email with the correct one. Then I noticed that I'd made a typo at the end of my story, a stupid mistake that's really eating me up

                I stare
out from my cell into the hallway of my prison. Apprentices scurry about like
lost mice carrying tomes and parchment to and from their destinations. Many are
young and eager; the prospect of knowledge has not yet dulled with the
monotonous excursions of a day to day existence that is the Circle. I once had
a dream, to one day be called First Enchanter. To one day show my power to the
next generation and help teach them to control theirs. Did I achieve my goal?

Wrong thread, dude.

Well, story's done. I kind of wish the word count had been 3,000; I had to murder quite a few of my word babies to meet the required length.

I'm sure a spelling mistake isn't the nail in the coffin of a great story, right? (Maybe if there were heaps.)

Also, having said that, I reread mine and passionately wish I could remove just one word from the ending. :P

I think the Bioware Community inbox would be overflowing even more than it currently is if they allowed people to update every time someone found a mistake or wanted to change something.

I'm sure it's not the end of the world, but... that's kinda what proof-reading is for, guys. :/ We can get away with it on sites like FF.Net, but competitions generally don't work that way.

Caleb is tasked with bringing in a young elven boy to the Circle in Ferelden.  Everything is going smoothly until some Dalish elves intervene.

Now with their roles reversed will Caleb gain a new perspective and, if so, how long will he live to share it?

True, but sometimes your mind doesn't always pick up on little mistakes (or even large ones), even after reading the same piece over and over. Anyways, it's more an annoyance than a genuine concern; if it affects my entry, so be it. I had fun writing it, that's all that counts to me

Oh, I know. :) Maker knows I upload stuff with mistakes all the time.

That's why it's a good idea to have someone else (preferrably more than one someone else) do the proofing as well, since a fresh pair of eyes can do wonders. Especially when it matters that you get your submission perfect first go.

(Edit: I didn't, but I probably should have. I read it aloud instead.)

Yeah, even though I'm studious about checking my work for spelling and grammatical errors (I actually trained as an editor in University), the human brain tends to assume that a piece you've written matches the idea you had in your imagination, and thus can assume a sentence matches what you think it says. I sent my entry to two different people for review after I'd reviewed it myself three times, and they STILL caught some minor errors in it. >.<

Anyway, it's been cleaned up and sent out. :) Good luck to everybody who entered!

I really wish I could read them all, there looks to be like a good amount of interesting tales.

To anyone proofreading their own work, try reading your story backwards. By that I mean reading through the last paragraph as you normally would and then working back to the first paragraph. Easier to spot typos and unclear sentences when you can't get into the flow of the story.
