To anyone proofreading their own work, try reading your story backwards. By that I mean reading through the last paragraph as you normally would and then working back to the first paragraph. Easier to spot typos and unclear sentences when you can't get into the flow of the story.

Ooh, that's a great idea!  I'll have to try it out next time.

I can honestly say I had a good time at work today, because I just sat there writing my story instead! Submitted. This contest is a great way to get the community involved.

I just learned about this competition yesterday *facepalm*

Thankfully I was able to write something and submit it in time.

My story is only 1,600 words. Is that still acceptable, or does it need to be longer?

That's actually a really good idea! I know I have a tendency to miss grammar or word-choice mistakes even after a fourth or fifth read-through because it's so easy to get caught up in the story and skim over those errors. Thanks for the tip!

I am an idiot and forgot to put in my BSN username in the email; so I sent another one with my username in it but also attached the story a second time. I'd like to clarify that I wasn't trying to enter my story a second time, I was just trying to send in my username. Sorry :pinched:

I saw a couple of people doing this in the synopsis thread and thought it was a good idea: posting a link to google docs or wherever they have a full text version up. I would love to read some of these stories! Not sure if it's against TOS to post links, so if it is then maybe PM them to me if you wouldn't mind me reading your story?

As I understand it, we're free to showcase our stories but only after the contest has ended (January 10th 23:59 PST, I believe) and as long as we don't sell it, claim ownership of the IP, etc., etc. If you're in the mood for reading, I can send you mine, just send me a PM if you're interested, I'm always looking for feedback.Image IPB

I think the Bioware Community inbox would be overflowing even more than it currently is if they allowed people to update every time someone found a mistake or wanted to change something.

I'm sure it's not the end of the world, but... that's kinda what proof-reading is for, guys. :/ We can get away with it on sites like FF.Net, but competitions generally don't work that way.

I had two proof-reades. Seems they didn't do their job well. :P I'm not a native speaker so I reeeeally have to rely on others, when it comes to English stories. Oh well, looks like I have to accept that I messed up. ;)

So, when can we post to ff.net? I saw in one post it said "after winners are announced" and in another it said "after the 10th" or some such. I'm impatient and want to add mine so I can get back to my normal fic! :P

If we're allowed to post links to uploaded copies of our stories, I'll post mine as soon as I'm able. If not, either PM me if you want a copy, or just Google for my username and you should find it. :)

Now to hope it's the 10th of January - Canada time.
Otherwise I just stayed up to 4:30am my time for nothing.

Fingers crossed!

I was wondering when they would let us know the winners as well. All I've seen is the 10th is the last day to submit stories. I hope there isn't a terribly long waiting time between now and the winners.
