To those asking questions. I think unpublished means no copying from things like the novels. If it's your own work and original then it should be fine to put up.
At least that's what I gather.

I'm pretty sure "unpublished" means "original". As in "if I do a Google search, I shouldn't be able to find this anywhere else".
Dragon Age is the property of Bioware, so none of us can actually publish original DA fiction in, say, a magazine. To prohibit something that can't be done seems pointless.

How cryptic may we be?
Because I already have a rough idea, but any likely implementation would be ... let's say mindscrewing should one try to interprete it and if a clear position (or at least a non-cryptic stance) is required for the protagonist/setting, I'd like to know.

This is a very good way to phrase it.
We want a NEW work from entrants. We know there are people who have been wrting DA fan fic for years now and that gives them a bit of an advantage. So, we want an entry of up to 2,500 words that you have not published on your blog or where ever previously.
And if you have submitted, make sure you give your brief of the story here in 50-100 words. If you don't NO PRIZE FOR YOU!!!

For the brief you want a synopsis or a brief snippet from the story? Just for clarification purposes. Thanks.

Something that you feels represents your story. A synopsis is good, but a small section may also work. Up to you.

Uh, yeah. I haven't read about any limitations so far, but I hope we can participate. I am in the middle of a DAII ride and thus fully in the matter so to speak. Not being able to participate would be ... screw this, I'll be submitting anyway!

A couple of questions before I consider risking my minor amatuer abilities being read and possibly scorned by the pro himself.
"Entries must be an original, unpublished work of fiction in the English language and no longer than 2,500 words."
Do these submissions have to be in any specific format? A notepad txt file, a PDF, or can we just copy/paste the story into the email with "This is my entry" at the top?
"respect for the Intellectual Property"
What exactly does this mean? No cameos by existing characters? No references to plotlines from the games/etc? No adding details and being limited to the well... limited amount of information we've already been given about how the mages and templars operate?

Sounds very interesting and makes me want to try it out. The only thing that makes me doubt is the prizes, because I don’t want them. I only want to see how well I do, nothing more. (Not that I think that I'll win, but you never know)
The only thing I wonder is if the story is restricted to Mage-Templar war timeline, or if anywhere anytime works.
