sent it in. I cut it down to around 2100 words, and I also sent in an epilogue which is comprised of what I had cut out of the original edited version.

The epilogue isn't something that one is required to read, but it sheds insight on one of my two main characters: Auron Crowley.

They might read the epilogue if the total comes to over 2500, but it'll still be disqualified. They've already said they won't accept stories over the word count, to keep things fair (and if this is a resub, you might not *get* a second chance. Not that it hurts you to try).

Considering 300 entries will comprise a maximum number of 750,000 (assuming no one goes over the limit), I'm dubious that the judges will bother with stories that break the rules.

Keep the full story to display for casual readers, but keep to the rules for competition judges.

I only found out about this contest today, so my entry is a little rushed. I still enjoyed writing, however. I'm excited to see who the winners are. =)
As for my abstract...

If I sacrifice my dog in the name of Bioware, do I get a leg up on the competition.

Well, it's two separate word documents, so hopefully if they did read it they'd just consider it a little bonus I threw in and not something counted towards the main document despite the sum of both documents still adding up to over 2500 words. But even if they do count it, no biggie.

Honestly, I doubt I'll win either way, but this was still fun. Mostly I just hope to get some feedback from both the forumites and the devs on my writing critique. I'll end up posting the unedited version after this is over.

Or I'll just send it to people that PM me asking to read it.

Yea, I'll probably do that since I'm currently in the midst of doing a DAO fanfic, and I don't want to jump from DAO fanfic to post-DAII fanfic and then back to DAO fanfic.

:)

What I'm going to do is edit my abstract post after the comp is closed to add a link to wherever I decide to put the story (probably a BSN blog or at FF.Net). Then if people want to read they can just click it. I figure some people won't want to go to the trouble of emailing/PMing, so this is just more convenient IMO.

Well, this was sort of last minute, but I tossed off a story and e-mailed it in just now (am assuming that the second e-mail with the story actually attached went through). Umm, no one's reading the entries but the judges, right? Because I think I'll die of embarrassment should other forumites end up reading it.

Anyhow, the story is titled "Lyssa, and it's about a templar sent to track down a mage accused of blood magic. The twist involves the fact that she is innocent of the crime and that she's dead at the start of the story, which involves flashbacks from the months prior to her death.

Funny things is, since you don't want us to read I want to read it now.

Yeah, I almost didn't write anything for this, cause I was afraid of not being able to get back into my Elissa's head to finish my DA:O fic when I finished this. As it is, it took me almost two days to get back into it (and I've not taken a break of more than 15-18 hours on that fic since starting it November 2nd) but I'm finally back!

Did the email address that sent the story need to be connected to the BSN account?

Hope mine is alright. I had to write another story, cause I realized about 3/4 of the way through my original that I was already over the wordcount. Posted Image Unfortunate, but I had another idea I just barely finished in time. In about an hour and a half. Ugh.  Posted Image

Story: Abominations

Wyatt Snow's story was the same as so many others. A nineteen year old, fresh Templar recruit pulled from somewhere that didn't matter, forced into a fight between Mages and Templars. He'd been fed all the lies, and only the most terrible truths about magic. And after being thrown into fray of a rebelling Tower overrun by demons, blood mages and all sorts of atrocities, he almost believed it. However after awakening from a terrible fall into the bowls of the Tower, his story is about to take a drastically different turn, one that could possibly change the final destination that the world of Mages and Templars is rapidly careening towards.

lol all these people posting their abstracts here
OTHER BOARD, GUYS

... but hnnng is anyone else getting mental post-write shaming.
Because I see the fic description for the Emile de Launcet one and a bunch of others and I'm all "OMG I WANNA READ THIS"
but then I see mine and I'm all "Oh, why did I write an emo fanfiction"

I feel a LOT of shame right now.

Have you ever written a spontaneous, second-person stream of consciousness story, looked back on it a few hours later and thought "Wow; my most creative and inspired thoughts amount to an unbroken cycle of crap?"

... This is my exact problem lol. Well, except mine is third-person stream of consciousness, though I'm having a similar reaction to it.
IT'S SO DISJOINTED AND GETS SO FAR FROM THE TOPIC THAT IT HURTS.

Yes. Often. Hence, I am refraining from rereading my story. For now.

On a side note, anyone else notice how LONG some of the abstracts are and how detailed they are? I keep thinking, "Uh, how'd you fit THAT into 2,500 words???" I hope we get to read more than just the winning entries.

Anyone else already impatient/nervous/REALLY want to know who wins as soon as possible? Posted Image

Following the instructions is probably a big factor in which stories move beyond the submission/abstract phase. I've submitted things to publishers before and they are very adamant about you following the instructions they've laid out... generally submissions that don't follow the directions don't get considered. I've never submitted to BioWare before, but I'd assume this is standard practice.

I'm really hoping for this.  May sound mean but if you don't have enough sense to follow the rules, you shouldn't win.  Why should they bother reading something I wrote, if I didn't bother reading the instructions. :)

Plus it'll cut down a lot of competition. >)

YUP

I came up with a much better idea for a story pretty much 5 seconds after I sent mine in yesterday.
ಠ_ಠ Why do you do this to me, brain?
