YUP

I came up with a much better idea for a story pretty much 5 seconds after I sent mine in yesterday.
ಠ_ಠ Why do you do this to me, brain?

... I just want to say I love your av'. The derpy warden expression is the most beautiful one ever.

But I came up with an idea back in December, only to see like.... 4309483298 people write on the same topic. So I trashed it, got discouraged forever, and came up with the idea I used during database class earlier today (well, I guess that would be yesterday now). |D; Speedwriting is never the answer, let me tell you.

Here is my quick abstract:

Inside the head of Knight-Captain Keir, who is struggling with an almost crippling lyrium addiction after years of bloody and unwavering service. He begins to question the meaning of duty after being influenced by a rash brother-in-arms; his beliefs are further tested during a normally routine transportation of a mage child to the Fereldan Tower when they are suddenly attacked.

Good luck everyone!

Wrong thread, guys. You need to post that in the abstract thread.

Yes, even if the result is crushing disappointment. I just want to want to silence the voices in my head.

"What you wrote was brilliant! It was nuanced! Shocking! It's going to win for sure."
"Are you kidding? That piece sucked donkey dong! It was hackneyed and the action was uninspired."
"Believe in yourself! Believe in me who believes in you!"

I sent in my entry on the 29th of December...since then it's just waiting, waiting, waiting :pinched:

Personally though, for my own writing, I'd prefer not to use canon characters. As far as possible, anyway

My first foray into Dragon Age fan fiction.

Dragon Age: The Amulet of False Gods

Draconus, a scientist and mage from Tevinter is researching old scrolls found in the Deep Roads when he comes across a peculiar one telling the tale of an amulet that bestows great power.  As his research in the Fade carries on, he begins to have strange dreams, and before long he finds himself in possession of that very amulet.  As he tries desperately to remove it, he begins having blackouts and waking up in strange locations.  Visions of horrific deeds committed by his hands plague his dreams, and before long word reaches Vigil's Keep as these reports begin to surface near Ferelden.  A group of Grey Wardens led by Nathaniel Howe is dispatched to deal with this, because only the Wardens know the true nature of the amulet and what it really contains.

Submitted... and just 2 hours before the deadline... whew...

Same here, though that might be because I slacked off and didn't write mine until tonight. I don't know if three hours of writing is really winning material.

Depends really. Some of my best fanfic that I was proud with was the result of a few hours of good solid work.

Though, I imagine the more experienced writers will kick my sorry excuse for a fanfic's ass to Timbuktu, then Amsterdam, then to Dublin, then finally to Caserta, Italy.

I hope my fanfic at least enjoys the sights.

Well, it is possible to write a really good story in three hours...that's a reasonable time.

I've never been really good at writing short stories. All of my creative works tend toward the long novels or series of novels that never actually get finished.

I personally like working under a bit of pressure, its like where I'm most creative.  and there was no minimum amount of words, right?  Written school essays that were about the same length that took much longer than 3 hours, so props to you.

Working under pressure and deadlines sort of force you to write quickly most of the time. It's interesting...and challenging.

That's the same with me. Short stories are still a new area for me, so I'm not sure if I have the knack for it. And I lost my drive to finish the first novel I had ever started.

Due in part to a ban placed on working on it from my mom since I was focused too much on it and not my studies back during high school.

XD

Well, at the end of the day, not winning doesn't mean a fic is undeniably bad. It just means the judges liked other stories better. :)

Writing/art is very dependent on the audience.

Maybe once the writers start displaying their fics readers can post some constructive criiticism. Pretty much everyone who's been posting here seems very positive. :)

If Bioware only hosts the winning entries for viewing, I've been considering compiling all entries into a single post, alphabetical list for ease of navigation, similar to what I did here for DA:O fanfiction, but just for this comp. Would anyone be in on that?

Good idea! That should make it simpler to find and read stories of interest, I think.

@Shadow An excellent idea. I'm interested to read other's peoples ideas as well as getting constructive criticism.

I haven't been able to write in so long between being busy until recently. It feels so good to write again, period.

I agree!  That sounds like a wonderful idea.  I want to read so many of these stories. :)
