A Templar on leave is conscripted into an apostate hunting party composed of mages and a couple of village guards. What is supposed to be a quick capture of a mage apprentice fleeing for freedom turns into something quite different.

Yes, even if the result is crushing disappointment. I just want to want to silence the voices in my head.
"What you wrote was brilliant! It was nuanced! Shocking! It's going to win for sure."
"Are you kidding? That piece sucked donkey dong! It was hackneyed and the action was uninspired."
"Believe in yourself! Believe in me who believes in you!"
"YOUR FAN FICTION IS BAD AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD!"
XD
Well, at the end of the day, not winning doesn't mean a fic is undeniably bad. It just means the judges liked other stories better.
Writing/art is very dependent on the audience.
Maybe once the writers start displaying their fics readers can post some constructive criiticism. Pretty much everyone who's been posting here seems very positive.
If Bioware only hosts the winning entries for viewing, I've been considering compiling all entries into a single post, alphabetical list for ease of navigation, similar to what I did here for DA:O fanfiction, but just for this comp. Would anyone be in on that?
I would be in that - yesiree!
I especially desire some concrit - I have noticed so many experienced writers/teachers/published authors have entered - it would be so valuable to have feedback from them and general viewers. I dont even mind if people say that was boring or sucked as long as they tell me why and how I could address it.

I second that as well. I almost wish someone had done that for the MotA contest, as well (for both writing and art).

Oh yes the MotA comp - we or SoLD could do that. I was disappointed I couldnt read the others.
We just have to start a thread and prod the community to post their entry - we may not get all, but some better than none...

Once we're allowed to post links I'll set up a thread for the synopses and let people know what it is.
I'll ask Ms Merizan to put a link in the other thread too.
EDIT: Regarding Mark of the Assassin, argh, that would have been good :/ Unfortunately we have no idea how many submissions there were without Jessica telling us, and I wouldn't feel right posting stories online without asking for the authors' approval. :/ I only know who a few of the entrants to that were.
EDIT #2: I'm guessing not everyone who entered this one will want their story to become public either, which is fine.

No - with MotA - I was thinking just create the thread - first post to prompt people to post their own entries in it - they were only 1k long so it shouldnt be too much of a problem. We may only get 10 but thats 10 more than we have to read right now.
The only other entry I read for MotA was yours because I happened to find a link to it from their FB

Marquis Wakeman had grown tired of the way mages were being treated in Kirkwall, so he created an Urban Legend of a Spirit of Mercy that helps apostate mages when they need help from the circle without being confined to it. His latest request proves to be a bit too much for him, as it recalls regretable memories of his dead wife.

There's a thread for abstracts!

Ah, I see. We'd probably only get a few of the local BSNers at this point, but it's an idea.

Hmm, thought we'd be able to add a link to the story with the story abstracts after the comp closed, but of course, they've (understandably) closed that thread from edits.
Yeah, I thought that might happen (albeit belatedly).
So, a new thread where links to the stories could be added would be delightful! Would love to see everyone's entries.
It'll happen, but per one of Jessica's posts earlier in this thread we'll wait until after the winners are announced.

Wonderful. Thanks! Altho while Jessica said early on we can post our stories after the winners are announced, I believe that later she said you can what you like after the 10th, probably since it's anyone's guess how long it will take to have a "winner." Anyhoo, might be nice to capitalize on the excitement/momentum now.Shadow of Light Dragon wrote...

The reason we have the abstracts posted in the other thread is to showcase the entries, like a written art gallery! Browse through them and after the 10th feel free to PM any user whose abstract you found compelling and ask for the full story. It is up to him or her to share it. And after the 10th, feel free to post your story anywhere you'd like. We claim no ownership to your work.

Weird, it didn't posted my comment in the wrong spot. Fix'd: Yeah, the teensy disconnect between the first post, saying "after winners are announced" and the second, saying "after the 10th" have me antsy. I wanna post mine, but I don't want to jump the gun, either!

Heh, I'm almost to the point of wanting to share so badly I don't care if I get disqualified or not. I think I'll wait until lunch-ish today, or until I finally think of a title, whichever comes later.
