The Community Team will choose our top five favorites who will receive a complimentary copy of Dragon Age Asunder signed by David Gaider and have their entries read by the man himself!

From Chris's first post, Gaider should only be choosing from those five favorites from the Community Team.  Using "shortlisted pile" would apply exactly to that scenario, because the five favorites are a shortlist for the overall winner.  But we shall see.

As far as the entries go, most people, like me, haven't shared theirs yet.  There's no way to accurately gauge the quality of the all the submissions from the small sample pool we have.  I expect we'll see more entries once the results are announced.  I don't plan to post mine anywhere until I know.

Yeah, I never shared mine either. More out of laziness and infuriation with Wattpad over anything else.

It also says "David will choose the overall winner." It's not exactly clear whether this means "overall winner" out of all entries, or "overall winner" out of the five.

Considering he's only got the shortlist, I strongly doubt he's reading the entire submission pile (for the purposes of judging, at least).

The Gray Nayr, that may have actually been your story. Do you mind sending it to me? Er, unless you already posted it, I can search for it on here.

Just Nayr is fine.

I posted it in here. http://social.biowar...0035/35#9013758

True. But DG is not going to read all the entries, and while it's possible that the Community Team will send him other stories they feel might have a shot beside their top five, I would be surprised if it didn't come from that pool.

Thanks, Nayr, and best of luck to you. x)

I have a feeling he's picking it out of the top five, but there's no harm in hoping. ^_^

Which arises another question: I wonder if they'll be using any of our short stories as small quests in the upcoming Dragon Age? Though I doubt it considering copyright laws, it's a pretty awesome thought.

I predict Gaider will use his patented (and thusly, evil) 'Eenie Meenie Miny Moe' technique to select the winners. :D

Nay, darts. The final five will be printed out and attached to a wall. DG will then blindfold himself and toss a dart to determine the winner.

Hence the comment about the "shortlist" ;)

All very probable guesses.

I'm pretty sure that David Gaider is a Grey Warden.

Think of it like Battlestar Galactica, where the final five cylons took forever to be revealed. And the anticipation was delicious.

So when I find out who the final five entries are I'm going to pull my hair out and throw my remote at the screen and vow never to watch this crap again?

So have any of the contestants recieved any feedback? I thought we were all going to get some kind of response.

There was never any sort of definitive answer about that. It could be an email with a "thank you for entering, unfortunately" sort of thing; then again, even finding out the winners and realizing one is not among them is feedback/response of a sort. In the writing world, no news unfortunately is news. Bad news :( So until they tell us more... I think we'll just have to readjust our backsides on those pins and needles we've been on for the last two weeks.

They'd probably ask permission or pay the writer a small sum to use it if they wanted to.

Although I imagine they'd probably just feature the characters in small quests or have the story nodded to in a codex entry.

They never promised feedback for anything.

Going by the last comp, the winners will get their 'Congratulations!' email and a request for postage details for their prize, and the grand winner will get the interview.

If people are expecting reviews or comments about what the judges thought of their stories, I'd advise against it. ;) That's the province of writing workshops, not competitions. You've got more chance of a fellow comp-entrant reviewing your story, and even then the majority of readers' comments will have little more detail than 'I liked it'. Good, honest reviews and concrit take time and effort.

DG: "You have made me like fan fiction. I am a reformed man."

Edit: Seriously, again going from the last comp, it's just "Congratulations, you were a winner of the xxxx competition! Please send us your shipping details."

Nothing explicit about if they personally liked the story or not, but that doesn't mean this comp will be the same.

Jessica did tweet that they'd probably comment on why they chose the top five.

And for those wondering how many stories DG has right now, he did say something about having his reading for tonight cut out for him. So, either he has a small number that ensures he'll read them all tonight, or he has many many more. I'm a fan of the former scenario.

Latest from DG. My interpretation is that he's only reading the top five. Thoughts?

Well I doubt he has time to read all 500+.

Not to mention the first post of the contest topic clearly stated that the five best chosen would be read by him. Not any of the others.
