Agree with you, Freckles. That's my general view as well. I wish they'd announce something, already!

You know... in Germany we sabotage the release of Battlefield 3 because of Origin using the comment section of amazon.

Well... what evil thought crosses my mind, I do wonder. :bandit:

Oh please! Let me illustrate the wonders of Sten and the Warden. I insist.

Where Sten returns to Seheron with the Warden only to leave it because his people do not like the Warden standing up for a midget Qunari female mage.

Where Alistair nurses a crush on the Warden years after their night together in the tent, but starts to fall for said Qunari female midget mage.

And the lovemaking. Oh...I don't know if my limited command over the English language can even express that scene of passionate culimination of hours of festering sexual tension where despite him warning her that physical intimacy with him CAN KILL YOU, she shows interest in his ...other sword. You know...the one attached to him. And would you believe it? It is HUGE! Unlike any human "sword" she has ever seen. After a few remarks she makes about its size, shape and "general grandeur" (I AM NOT KIDDING),  he gets right down to his "well-knit thighs" (sic) and gets started with insertion.

I guess the qun doesn't demand foreplay!

But instead of "sweet succulence" (sic), he causes- internal bleeding, a broken sacrum, broken ribs, and pain which only serves to excite him to further...er..lengths. After all that...err..tender intimacy, he is amazed that she is still alive- broken but still alive. And she speaks about how his style of love-making is what women want more than anything else in a mate because it is ENTHUSIASTIC! This is also illustrated in her fan-art section where there are a lot of illustrations of the warden and Sten in various copulation poses.

Now, I can understand there are some women/men who enjoy the fantasy of very er...large men. So, well, though I think it is possible (personal opinion) Bioware cringed and poor Mary (writer of Sten) had a fit over the transformation of practical, by the rules Sten into some kind of shirtless, bodice ripper guy, fan fiction is something where that happens and is enjoyed by many. It could have ended there. Sure, it would have had people like me who thought it was hilariously bad to the point of quoting random passages out of it for pure amusement value, and people who enjoyed it, but that is the way of all fan fiction.

BUT, she wrote this other kindle book. In that she meets the giant who is locked in a cage for killing innocent villagers, frees him, helps him find his sword (not *that* one, that comes later...*shudder*), he helps her fight for king Alistair Alisdair and then BAM! They are in the boat to whatever she named Seheron and it proceeds just like the book. So even the parts she added to not make it like an epilogue, are from the game. Cage, murder of villagers, missing sword, etc.

So, I wrote a review 5 months ago. I didn't bother Mr. Gaider with it. I also have TONS of reviews and I don't send him my reviews of girly beauty products either. But someone got upset recently that I wrote that negative review, claimed the author hadn't even heard of Dragon Age/Sten and the Warden and that is what I forwarded to Mr. Gaider because the fan fiction was very visible here.

And of course, few people seem to be keen on downrating everything either Mr. Gaider, Mr. Ryan Farmer or I said purely because it was Anti Sten Porn. Once he laid the smackdown and said- email me if you dare, they stopped downrating him, but Ryan Farmer and I are still getting "your comments do not add to the discussion" dings because we don't happen to be telling everyone how awesome and original the book is.

SO...that is more of the story for you.

EDIT: There is a LOT of sarcasm here. For anyone who thinks I actually thought this was passionate lovemaking...or an act of tenderness, er...I didn't!! That scene scared the tuna salad out of me, except I was too busy counting the metaphors.

Fanfic writing is for fun and head canons.
You want to publish something make a world or get the ok from the creator. Don't go hijacking it.

That being said yes it's possible for worlds to have similar themes and groups. Before playing DA I had a group of religious magic haters in a novel I'm working on and yes they have mage hunting paladins too. I was going for the Spanish Inquisition feel. However, that's all that's the only thing that is the same from my world and Thedas. So I don't have to change it. There is such a thing as having worlds way to similar and that's usually how you spot folks that are trying to pull one over on folks.

Imported_beer...fear not. I also wished Sten was romanceable. He was more man than Alistair or Zevran, certainly. And, let's face it...however else would they make little Q'unari's?

Whoa...I did NOT wish Sten was romanceable!

He was...yeah...no...he was like a big surly brother to me. Someone who had to be placated with cookies, not salacious acts! And the entire internal bleeding thing to me is not something I consider an erotic advantage. If anything, it is a "run away fast in screaming terror" disadvantage. But if people like that, that is what fan fiction is for. It is to take characters to places...they may have never been, and while I may not like it, I can accept others may. Subjectivity is something I am comfortable with.

What I object to is then claiming that world and that character as only your own. To the extent of denying even knowing what influenced it.

I just hope Mr Gaider and Bioware won't change their stance about fanfiction now.

But you know. Of all the amazing Dragon Age fanfiction, this is what gets published?

The captain swiped at the lock on the cell and the rusted bolt fell to the ground, releasing the giant from his cell. He stood out from his cramped confinement, stretched out his massive arms, and neared with heavy footfalls.

He tightened his clasp around the weapon in his hand, calming at the feeling of his place being reclaimed. "I will win this battle for you," he declared.

"I daresay you shall," she said smilingly.

I rolled my green eyes and stopped reading, vehemently.

I guess the qun doesn't demand foreplay!

I own this PDF and I ike to make random quotes from it. Because there is not one act, one gesture, one thought that Sten has without a suitably manly adjective or metaphor.

He doesn't hold something with his hands. He holds something with his MURDEROUS hands.

He doesn't experience pleasure during sex...he looms over the precipice of his desire.

He doesn't kiss her...why that would be too normal and lacking in sexual tension. HE CRUSHES HER LIPS.

There should have been a part where he crushed a beer can against his head, ripped his shirt off, thumped his MOUNTANOUS CHEST and then peed against the nearest tree with his immensely large "sword". That would have taken it to eleven.

But opinions of her writing aside, the book is not original. Maybe her fans convinced her it was so awesome, she should get it published. And then try to bury anyone's comments who say otherwise. But even if they genuinely believe it is original, it is not fair to try and bury the opinions of those who think it is a clone with "find and replace" and a hastily added opening chapter.

OMG ... can you say ... TWILIGHT?! Isn't there a scene in Twilight where he sleeps with her for the first time and is SUCH A MAD PASSIONATE VAMPIRE LOVER that he practically breaks her back?

That said, I did want Sten as a love interest, but I assumed his manly parts were not grotesquely huge and that it would just be a sweet romance with a very manly guy, which DA:O did not really offer LOL

I think Mr. Luke K better resign himself to her new novel set in Spockwall featuring a Haata commander named Arilok who has been a virgin for the past 1000 years. And guess what...when the novel says his special move is running impalement....

I haven't read Twillight (or seen it), but there was once a very popular Harry Potter Fanfiction that stole from Buffy. Man, was that a chaos. I think its name was Draco Dormiens. Draco was somewhat like Spike. Glad I only read two chapters and disliked it right away.

This reminds me a little of that fanfiction. Sans the passionate lovemaking, which reminded me a little of a Japanese gore hentai.

The sad thing about this fic is that she not only stole from Buffy, but also The Gilmore Girls and entire passages from a fantasy writer:

And the even sadder thing is that now this fanfic writer is a published YA writer with a movie coming out based on her incredibly unoriginal books.

You are joking, right? I mean, her writing style was nice but the content was utter bull****!!!

Whoa, so that's what they mean when they say even bad publicity is good publicity... That's seriously ... I don't even have a word that I'm allowed to post here for what I'm trying to say...

Nope, not a joke:

http://en.wikipedia....Cassandra_Clare
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1538403/

I enjoyed her Very Secret Diaries series for the LOTR fandom, but she really couldn't handle a big, epic fic, if she had to steal so much from others.  I can't imagine that she's much better now, since she pretty much lied every step of the way when her plagiarism was discovered.

That's it! I start plagiarizing right now! Let me just finish a letter for Mo Hayder in which I tell her that I am borrowing her character Jason from Devil of Nanking and David Gaider that I'm going to use his European layout in the Dragon Age series for my new masterpiece which shall be named "The Stolen Goblet of Fire of Nanking"!

I hereby declare that everything is intellectual proberty of me and myself and everybody else who dare claim otherwise is just a mean big liar.

When the chaos about her stealth became public it really was going on my nerves. And it was always the same.

Well, if I have learned something today, then, that this will not be the last we here of Michelle Franklin.
