What does an FF account let you so?

You can technically do everything but publish and post on the forums without an account, but you can only leave "unsigned" reviews if you don't log into an account first. I'll take any review I get on my stories' chapters, but I prefer the signed ones cause I normally end up in a string of 10-12 messages just chatting with the person about the story and everything else.

I accept signed and unsigned reviews, but a lot of authors won't even accept unsigned/anonymous reviews (it's a profile preference that can be set) because trolls are far less likely to post flame reviews if they have to put it on record as coming from their account (that pesky acountability thing). I greatly prefer signed reviews just because they can be replied to (sends a PM to the reviewer's account), whereas you can't reply to an unsigned review. I reply to every signed review I get and have had a lot of great conversations with readers and fellow authors that way.

I saw the reviews come in from artemiskat and clariana a little while ago. Thank you very much for those. I'll try to read through some of the other entries too.

But  a rotary clothesline is not Basalit-an.

However, I do like the idea of my wet knickers drying on the Arishok's horns. He is rather sexy. Still, we need that self tanning lotion.

Meravas.

And his voice, too. Hehe, be it German or English, I can't stop listening to this raspy voice.

Well, we have to admit, he was clearly splendidly staged. His first appearance in the first act was quite sublime. He should have just kept his mouth shut. Most of the time I wan't to shove my weapon into his mouth. What a bigoted race.

Completely agree!  Rick Wasserman, the Arishook's voice actor, did an amazing job!   <3

And he's an amazing guy himself!!  I was lucky enough to  interview him about DA2/Arishook for a gaming podcast I do. I love Rick, so awesome!

You have an interview??? Where can I find this?

His voice is amazing!

He was clearly splendidly staged!

One of the most memorable moments in the game for me was when I was first presented with the Arishok. It was incredibly alluring and terrifying at the same time. I must have a thing for voices and stage presence, because I loved Fenris's voice and his dramatic entrance. I also enjoyed listening to the dialogue between Fenris and the Arishok. It was a treat to hear two very sexy voices together.

And his voice, too. Hehe, be it German or English, I can't stop listening to this raspy voice.

I agree wholeheartedly! <3

Is it sad that I kept going back to the Arishok to hear him speak? *blushes*

OH MY GOD, I'm not the only one?!  I have SUCH a huge (ha!) crush on the Arishok, and that scene!  That SCENE!  The way that bit of cloth swings in front of him as he walks, the slow, commanding way he enters the scene, takes his seat, and stare Hawke down ... omg *melts into a puddle of goo*

I have managed to read 4 or 5 stories and give each of them a review, even if it is just a little blurb. These were stories on FF.net though (my handle there is not thesnowtigress but artemiskat). I find the BioWare blogs hard to read, especially with my dying monitor, which is darker than usual and flickering every second. I can only read so much before my eyes hurt lol. I'll read as many as I can though. It's very interesting to see what people came up with. =)

I got your review  You're a dear, especially after I came here and moped and complained :kissing: Thank you, and thank to the other reviewers, I got my writerly ego stroked and some nice suggestions to boot!

Now time to go read and review some more stories!!

EDIT: That first smiley is supposed to be a blush but now I think it doesn't look like a blushing smiley ... oh well xD

EDIT 2: About unsigned reviews on FFNet; I accepted unsigned reviews on both FFNet and fictionpress and I have never gotten a "troll" or flame review, so don't worry about that!  You get more reviews if you don't require people to log in first.

A reminder to people that if you want your entry listed on this list on BSN, just follow the instructions there. :)

I know things are getting a little lost on this thread. :)

Oh, SoLD, can I make a request (here, since I can't post in the other thread, *sigh*).  Would you be able to update my link to point to my FF.net site rather than the BSN blogs?  Pretty please with pancakes and lemon sugar on top? :innocent:
Someone made a good point about readability of the BSN blogs in terms of typography, &c.  If you want to add the link rather than replace, that would work, too.

This is the FF.net link.  And if you don't get a chance to do it, that's okay too, just thought I'd like to post the more legible version!

I had never tried writing fanfiction before this competition but now I'm so inspired by all the amazing stuff that I've been reading from the other entrants and I've had so much fun writing my own that I think I should probably make myself a FF.net account and write and read more of it.

Same! And lurking in this thread has been super entertaining. :) I did get an FF.net account for this, and I'm working on another DA story now. I've had so much personal blechness going on, I haven't been able to make much headway on my "original" writing, but playing in someone else's sandbox has flipped on a lot of lights in my brain, so to speak.

Exactly! :wizard:  That's why I love writing fanfiction so much.  You get to spend extra special time with characters and lore you love anyway, with the added bonus of being able to write, which, for all of us writers here, is a totally sweet gnarly keen bonus in and of itself!

I like reading fan fiction. I prefer to write my own fantasy, though. I'm not good at writing about someone's character. lol

Wah! I'm not alone!

Eventhough I absolutely hate the Qun and what it demands, I wholeheartedly fell deep in love with that stupid Arishok bastard. Killing him was the worst desicion I had to make in the game, especially after he said that I alone was Basalit-an. I only once let him live, and that was with a character who actually was in a relationship with Isabela. Well, the first time I killed Anders was a Hawke who was in a relationship with him. I guess I don't deal well with betrayal....

I hope there will be a contest about the Qunari.

I would grab that chance to write an epic story about a Hawke in a relationship with the Arishok. Saddly, I cannot write an epic lovemaking scene since detailed sexual  content would not be allowed. Oh woe is me. (Notice the sarcasm please...)

Anyway... I don't want to strain the bounderies of "stay on topic" too much.

On that note, I have to check on SoLD's thread again. It has been some time.

Oh, and I got a comment! Thank you very much wangxiuming. :kissing:

I would, personally, love a Qunari-centric contest. I have a kossith-sized soft spot for them.

Buuuut to remain on topic - I wonder how it's going in Canadaland with all of them reading our stories.

It is really exciting to hear that all of the writers and editors are looking at the stories now, but it makes me more nervous.
I don't like people reading what I write as it is, and having an actual writer/editor read something i threw together in five hours is frightening.

Thanks SoLD for including my FF in your list. I was wondering if only posting my stories on my Deviant Art account is sufficient? I don't get a lot of comments for my fanfic. The most popular thing so far that I've done seems to be the Mass Effect Rainmeter skins that I did. Should I create an account on fanfiction.net? Would I get more feedback on my stories? Right now I get my sister and a friend read them and for the most part the only feedback I get is a general, "Yeah I liked it." I really appreciate that they read my stuff but I'm not sure if I'm improving at all.

Someone in SoLDs Thread suggest a comment exchange. Can you post there? If so, just write that you would be interested and you shall get your constructive critiscm.

However, even on FF.net you don't get that many reviews. It depends mostly on the fandom and on a certain fanbase. But of course, the more sites you use to show your work, the more (?) likely it will become that you will get  reviews with more content than "liked it!!!!!!". Reviews, that actually help you improve.

(But to be totally honest, I actually am happy about some "I like it!" reviews, since it means, my stories are being read and enjoied.)

I've been going through all the entries posted by SoLD for fun and hopefully leaving helpful comments/criticism. I've been working backwards alphabetically, starting with the stories that have not received any comments yet. I'm about to get to yours! So you should have at least 1 comment soon.

Edit: I will send you a private message with my comments, since I don't have a deviantart account.

I have two concerns about much of the other fan fiction I tend to see. I was wondering how the general community felt about these things.

The first is the tremendous amount of flowery descriptive metaphors that bury a story for me. I'm not really a fan of the language used in poetry. Maybe I'm a bit to literal minded.

The other thing is a first person narrative. I tend to get turned off by this approach. I'm not quite sure why. I have read some good first person stories, but I've read a lot more bad ones.

Any way, I was just wondering what everyone else thought of these things.
