DG just tweeted

List of winners sent off to Chris & Jessica, along with a companion piece for the BioBlog. Off to play games, and not think about writing.

and:

@DarrowJames I wish everyone could win. Not ending up in the top 20 should not be taken as unworthiness-- there was a lot of good stuff.

I wonder if this means they'll be releasing the list of the top 20 instead of just the top five. Even if it's only for acknowledgement rather than a prize, I still think that'd be pretty awesome.

Just to let you guys know that DG's sent the list to Chris and Jessica already along with a companion piece for the blog. Any theories on what it says?

Tweet or it didn't happen.;)

EDIT: Lol, you beat me to it, loquaciousquark!

Great minds think alike! I think it's just a testament to how closely we're all hovering over any announcement relating to the contest, hahaha. :D

I don't usually post on the forum, but I wanted to thank those people who've been keeping us informed of developments as they happen. As I don't use Twitter, I'm grateful for the updates.

!!  I met my hubby in the QFGC too!  He was the chief Paladin (Jeron), and I... couldn't stick to one character.  :P  Hubby and I still talk to a TON of the QFGC folks (Dayn, Sharkus, Debs, Cid, etc.).  We haven't been involved for AGES.  We were mainly active in the club in the late 90s (Jeron, anyway) and early 2000s.

This is too cool for words!  So great to run into another QFGCer.

WOAH. Small world! I bet you still talk to my husband too. He was Dreigen. I played as Kyra Hart. I still chat with Dayn and Debs on FB lots.

Small world indeed.  I DO remember Dreigen -- I don't think I'm FB friends with him, but I'm fairly sure Jeron is.  I'll look you up over there -- expect incoming friend requests!

Dave has decided to read more of the entries, and the rest of us have been enlisted/volunteered to help out. Which means if you entered your work, at least one writer or editor here will have read it.

This is really awesome!

Heh, the odds of getting a book aren't that bad. How many entries were there again? My estimate was around 200 on the day of. Five in 200 becomes 1:40 which is a heck of a lot better than any lottery, and yet people buy lottery tickets every day... I'm expecting far more for a local contest run by a TV station.

5 in ~400, I think. Still a heck of a lot better than lotto. :P

I'm almost in physical pain, here, knowing that the winners have been decided and not knowing who they are. Anyone want to start a meditation group with me so we can pass the time? Posted Image

I really am gonna miss this thread though. Posted Image

And it's not blind luck but skill. I assume that we're all being judged on our writing prowess, and not just guessing a random string of numbers.

True, but if I assume a large chunk of those submitting have the basics of grammar and story-telling down, who wins then becomes somewhat luck.  What character and story we can write in 2500 words that appeals to the judges. (and doesn't have the bad luck to be similar to another 10 they just read) does become a matter of luck, like if the first rerader hates X and X is crucial to your story.   There's always a bit of luck in getting published/chosen.:wizard::D
