The problem I've run into is that one of the groups I normally post my stories to Mass-Effect-2 has rejected my story because I used a screenshot as the preview image. The suggestion of ~LittleMissAwesome (Nice humble name by the way) the founder of the group was to commission someone to create a preview picture for me. As a rule I would think that most artists would like to be paid for their work, which I can't do. So what now?
One thing I guess I could do is just not post on that group as they are hostile to writers. What do you guys think?

As this is the only writer community that I have any extended interaction with I was wondering if I could get some advice. I just completed a Mass Effect 2 story and posted it to my Deviant Art account as a PDF to retain the text formatting that I put into when writing in MS Word. This is the first time I've done the PDF thing and it turns out you have to have a "Preview Image". As I do not draw or do 3D modeling I uploaded a screenshot of my FemShep.

just make a simple .jpg that contains the title of your story. should work as preview and doesn't require any drawing work or commissions. it's what i would do.

I have done this. Thankfully, after tomorrow we can stop thinking about it, one way or the other.
Yes, I vowed to never look at it again. Then I forgot what I had written and wanted to know again and --- well, here you go... Me cringing at the obvious mistakes. <_<
@rickf: Have you ever considered posting on FF.net?

I'd say that the group might be a little bit on the 'unwelcoming' side, getting a personalized picture isn't actually that hard. For fan material and non-profits, sometimes other aspiring artists (especially on DA) will do non-profit work if it is properly linked and tagged to them. That way they can keep their skills up and get some recognition.
In the end, it matters also just how far you want to go with a picture. For my novel in progress, I actually made my own cover-art. While it is a bit on the simple side, it still works for its purpose. If I wanted something more elaborate, there's the above method or actually commisioning an artist. Either way, there are a few different avenues.

Going back through my list of accounts I find I do have an account on FF.net although it appears that I haven't ever posted a story there, or it went past the 60 limit and dropped off. So I figure I'll post a few stories and see what happens.

Oh, and, how about your blog here? People who post here most likely like ME and you are free to post your stories this way.

I didn't make any mistakes, but I think the story is just not interesting enough or powerful enough to warrant being a winning entry (or even in the top 20). It's something I struggle with as a writer, especially with short stories. A short story ending should pack a punch, whether it's an emotional punch or what. But I just can't seem to do that. I read and re-read my entry and felt as if something was glimmering, about to happen, but it never quite came to fruition.
Frustration, but when is writing not

*puts on artist hat* Speaking for myself, I've done gift art for a number of writers on DA - if a story really grabs me, I'm quite likely to be inspired enough to paint a scene from it in return and the authors are always more than welcome to use that art as a preview image as long as they credit me. A good piece of art can draw readers in, and a good story will garner more fans - many of whom will happily click through to see who did the artwork. It's usually a win-win for all concerned.
I'd offer to do something for you myself, except I'm completely unfamiliar with Mass Effect, though I'm happy to work from screenshots for reference.

Well if number 1 isn't good what would that say about everyone who placed below it?

I like to call him "emo-elf" since it's really quite fitting.
Heh, I did, too! I went Anders on my first play-through, and Fenris on my second. I have to say that even tho the whole "lithe emo elf" is not the style I'd gravitate toward, I found that one more satisfying. How evil does it make me that I loved being thrown against the wall and being kissed within an inch of my life?
I would like DA3 to contain at least one chiseled manly-man whose chest is so cut I can sharpen my sword on it. A Casavir that isn't a goody-two-shoes, a Garrus, a Carth Onasi that doesn't whine. Give me a rugged Templar, a male pirate, or a Qu'nari.

Eh... before I read an abstract of a certain story I really would have liked to have a Qunari as a romance option (disregarding the fact that Qunari do not really have "romance" or "love of that kind") but ever since I think about dating a Qunari I always think of an epic... thing...
Fenris throwing you against the wall is sooooo even better if he is REALLY angry at you, meaning: rivalry playthrough. Oh, the passion and anger mixed together *fans herself*
No, but really, the best scene with Fenris in a relationship was the kissing scene at the end. Coming from someone like him, all in the open and in front of other people, being with a mage (whether friendship or rival) and in my case a man too, was really ... suprising. I was really taken aback to be honest. And really happy. Someone told me I should wipe that stupid grin off my face when they saw me the next day... <_<
With Isabela I really liked that scene at the end, too. It was such a sweet innocent kiss, eventhough the relationship was wild and passionate. Ah, my heart was aching when she told me I had to come back.
Oh, and no, it's not sexiest. I'm not into buffy guys but I do make an exception for the Arishok.

Thanks for the offer. What I ended up doing was creating a jpg with the words "RickF7666 Mass Effect The Rock". They accepted that.
If you like Bioware games and SciFi then Mass Effect is worth a look. Mass Effect 1 & 2 are on both the XBox and PC, while the PlayStation 3 only has Mass Effect 2. I'm of the opinion that both games should be played so you can inport your game from the first one. There are a lot of benefits to doing that. If you have a Steam or Origin account then these two games often go on sale. I've seen them as low as $5.00 a peice. Granted, like Dragon Age there is DLC for both games which would have to be purchased separately.
A great place to see some fantastic art for Dragon Age, Mass Effect or just about anything else, I highly recommend checking out Deviant Art. And there is some pretty good fanfic too.

Oh, are we distracting ourselves with romance stories? I've only done one playthrough so far, and courted Merrill. Fenris is for the next run. I like Anders well enough, but I don't feel the call of the Must Be Romanced.
