*puts on artist hat* Speaking for myself, I've done gift art for a number of writers on DA - if a story really grabs me, I'm quite likely to be inspired enough to paint a scene from it in return and the authors are always more than welcome to use that art as a preview image as long as they credit me. A good piece of art can draw readers in, and a good story will garner more fans - many of whom will happily click through to see who did the artwork. It's usually a win-win for all concerned.

I'd offer to do something for you myself, except I'm completely unfamiliar with Mass Effect, though I'm happy to work from screenshots for reference.

Thanks for the offer.  What I ended up doing was creating a jpg with the words "RickF7666 Mass Effect The Rock".  They accepted that.

If you like Bioware games and SciFi then Mass Effect is worth a look.  Mass Effect 1 & 2 are on both the XBox and PC, while the PlayStation 3 only has Mass Effect 2.  I'm of the opinion that both games should be played so you can inport your game from the first one.  There are a lot of benefits to doing that. If you have a Steam or Origin account then these two games often go on sale.  I've seen them as low as $5.00 a peice.  Granted, like Dragon Age there is DLC for both games which would have to be purchased separately.

A great place to see some fantastic art for Dragon Age, Mass Effect or just about anything else, I highly recommend checking out Deviant Art.  And there is some pretty good fanfic too.

Oh, I'm well aware of what's on deviantART - I've been a member for over 6 years, and I post all my DA fanfic there as well as art.

Sadly, I'm not a games player; in fact (big admission time) I've never even played any of the Dragon Age games. We're a strictly Linux-only household here, so none of our machines can run it - and I can't exactly afford to build a games machine just for one game. <_< espite that, I've written well over 150K words of DA fanfic to date (you can read it all =57398&sort_column=created_at&sort_direction=ASC]here) thanks to YouTube videos of cut scenes, playthroughs and the Dragon Age Wiki. I actually have the artist Emma Vieceli (Dragon Heir, Vampire Academy) to thank for getting me into Dragon Age - her "Sign of the Maker" fic was what really got me into the characters, particularly Anders. It was inevitable that eventually I'd start producing DA fanart too. I'm arkadyrose on deviantART, if you're curious.

To tell the individuals would be to tell the whole community as I am sure the winners will be reluctant to not tell everyone that they won. I assume they'll tell everyone at once.

My guess would be both at the same time, or the community as a whole before the winners. In the end, if they told the winners first, they'd just go and spoil it before the announcement.
