It was an exaggeration on my part to say I've never been bullied, but I kind of meant on the level that Ryzaki insinuated. The hugely damaging level.

As for paying it forward, I prefer to do so with nice things. Image IPB

Yeah I wouldn't wish it on anyone. It sucks.

I prefer to do the nice things to people who deserve it and tell everyone else to kick rocks. :P

I too have to apologize, I sound
like an @ss. I don't mean it isn't, it just isn't on the same level as
something like one's parents psychologically and emotionally abusing
one.

I apologize.

I'd agree.

When you have to deal with both though.... Your parents tell you you're crap...then you go to school/outside and have it reinforced. Hard not to want to jump off a bridge in that scenario and I respect anyone who had the strength to go through it and come out ontop.

Apology accepted. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/joyful.png[/smilie]

@Youknow: I think one time I got her to tell my dude Shep to stop pissing around. Wasn't much better than the f*** off but at least she wasn't biting his head off for not wanting to romance her.

Is it? If I lose respect for both men and women for the same causes, how is it sexist?

Then it's just prudish.  Sleeping around is hardly a virtue, but it's not a reason to see someone as less worthy.

Plus, you have a history of sexism:

"I still can't believe you're female. You have larger balls then most of the people on this forum."

Implying that I'd normally require a penis to obtain my sheer level of badassery.  Now, you meant it as a compliment, but still, your definition of "female" does not include boldness or flippancy, which are obviously not absent in women.

You don't have to go on crusades to be a badass. But in Cheez's case, it helps.

Are you seriously making the suggestion that bullying isn't abuse of a sort?

Now If you're gonna say it's not on the same level I'd agree. But bullying (especially extreme bullying) can be extremely psychologically damaging. There's more to bullying than just pushing someone down on the playground and laughing as they get mud in their hair. That's a form of it sure but that's certainly not the only one.

Being made to feel like ****, like you're nothing, that can come just as easily from strangers as it can from your parents and it's damaging either way. Luckily some of the time with bullying the family is a fallback but it's not always that way.

And ugh I sound preachy. NVM.

I apologize.

You have no clue. I went to school with a young lady who commited suicide because of being bullied on a regular basis. Mentally and physically being bullied at an age when you're still trying to find yourself can be very damaging.

Miss, it is a figure of speech. Nothing more.

Why is whenever I compliment people, they try to turn my compliments against me? I guess I'll have to stop complimenting people.

Jack is alright. My biggest problem is how she seems to handle herself considerably better when you are a female than when you are a male... Almost makes it feel like she tried to guilt trip you into that scene...

She tells you to stop bothering her when you are a female and acts like "you're cool Shep, but I'm cool, and I don't feel like hanging out with you 24/7." I wish you could get that with her as a male, but NO you just get "**** off!"

Well except when picking a certain paragon dialogue choice with Jack that she chooses to interpret as a come on from femshep and then she just shuts any conversation down and sulks.  I actually liked her up until that point.

This absurd obsession with strong females is getting on my nerves. FemShep can cover her entire gender in the strength-department (from all perspectives) all on her own, tbh. And Jack is not a strong female. A strong female:

1) Supports herself entirely on her own and does not let herself be abused.
2) Can control her emotions.
3) Can deal with her own problems.

Jack does neither of these things. But that's okay. Tali doesn't, either. Expecting every female to be an alpha like Shepard is rather unrealistic. That goes for men too.

EDIT: Goes without saying that this is my opinion. Interpret it as you will, but you'd be hardpressed to find a person who's more about gender equality than I am.

I didn't mind the balls part.  What bugged me was that my gender was a surprise to you.  Why is a ballsy female an anomaly, hm?

That, or you could adjust your mental constructs of male and female.

Hm..

Well, when meeting in person, someone's gender is far more often than not brutally obvious. In person, someone's gender is often the first thing you know about them, with race and other such things to ruthlessly profile them with.

Online, no visible contact is made. So, you are forced to assume one's gender. I generally assume male and change to female if someone blatantly says "I'm female." It's just my first guess and generally a good one. Then again, there are instances where I'd forum with a person for months and find out after all that they are female. I'm a little slow to figure that one out:D. It's analogous to trying to discern internet sarcasm.  It's not something that is as obvious as you would think.

As to redefining my preconceptions, eh, not gonna happen. No point. If people want you to know their gender, they'll say so. And then I make a mental note of that, forget it later and refer to them in a week by the wrong pronouns, and then you'll holler at me for using the wrong pronouns, and life goes on.

Although I must say I really like the term "mysgonist" or whatever it was. I learn something here every day . I take pride in my villainy. Good night and keep your balls large!

Mentally, Jack is around 6 years old.

That's almost young enough to enter the men's changing room in a gym.

So give her a break, will ya? And for goodness's sake do not list her as an example in an argument about "female" characters. Next you're going to argue that Grunt is not the archetype of a strong male Krogan because he hugs his T-Rex plushie when he sleeps.

I was just thinking, Bioware have to be the most socially progressive game devs at the moment (although there was acerbic satire in the GTA series if you looked for it)
Gay partnerships, a blind eye to gender in most cases, and other stuff.

A lot of bullies talking here. Any kind of intimidation can have a dramatic effect on someone psychological health and self-worth. Just losing your job can be devastating.

Jack was a well made character and it's nice a change from the overly confident bad ass character with no flaw. Like Shepard.

Oh, most certainly. Not only that, but complex moral issues are a crucial part of the game. Despite how much I hate the direction ME has headed, I still feel that as a series (ME1+2+3) there's never been another like it.

Seriously, all this talk of bullying and improper perception of social norms and women and yadda yadda. I don't care what you are. Sack up and get some thicker skin. People will be stupid and ignorant. Get over it. Stereotypes exist because a majority of people fulfill them. If you want them broken for your personal identity, clearly identify yourself so that people can't make assumptions.
