Should Bioware make new characters just to have a gay romance? -NO SPOILERS-

I'm not sure I understand. if the romance is well written, has great depth and dialogue and has fair participation in a plot.. why is it insulting, just because its the character you haven't met before?

Only once? Hell the reaseon I keep comming back is so that I can experience all of the storylines. It's getting to the point where I have to stop myself from starting new characters so that I can get through all the ones I have for ME3. LOL!Youknow wrote...

If I were a homosexual, I'd find this insulting. If they can not give you a solid 3 dimensional romance why do you even want it? This seems more like an easter egg than "equal" oppurtunity romance.
I think that s/s romances suck up too much resources and are not feasible to create. Think about it. Only about 10% of people are gay. why spend the same amount of effort appealing to this fanbase, when 90% of the fanbase don't care. and of that 90% probably 20% don't even want it. I think Bioware can allocate its resources better.
You've answered your own question. No, they should not. It's insulting to do so. Which is some of the problem now. Both people have okay arguments for if there should be gay/bi characters up for romance. That doesn't necessarily mean that there shouldn't have or shouldn't be gay romances.
I think that S/S romances do not suck up too many resources in that they waste just as much time as a straight one. There might even be less of an issue all things considered, because if they were strictly gay/lesbian, the animator might be working with models that are closer in size. So it might even be easier to animate than a straight romance. Bisexual romances might be the only ones that would require considerbly more effort.
Even if 10% of the world is gay, that doesn't mean that straight people will not do homosexual romances. I for one don't care what race or gender it is for my avatar. I prefer women, but that doesn't mean that I wouldn't have my character I'm role playing as not prefer men. 2nd, the fanbase numbers don't really matter. There are more people that play as soldiers than other classes, that doesn't mean that the other classes should be done away with. Especially considering that most people probably only play as a soldier and only play once.

I, personally, wouldn't mind it. But homosexuality should never be a characters defining trait. When you write a character for a romance in a certain way, it can come off that way.jeweledleah wrote...
could someone explain to me while new characters written specifically with s/s romance in mind.. are insulting?

Nailed it right on the head there. Just from my experience with how Bioware handles their characters, they can pull this off no problem.jeweledleah wrote...

Because thats not whats happening at all. They are literally slapping some stripper for the lesbianze romance and some enunch for the gay romance. They are just "half-assing" the gay romance.
Personally, if they are going to do it, they should it properly. If not, I rather it out of the game.

More so because it feels like it was shoehorned in for some. Don't get me wrong, I'm a "better late than never" sort of guy, but I KNOW that's not how people act around here, and I know I'm in the minority on this one. I don't expect people to have skin as thick as mine.

and you know that... how? you are assuming that they are half assing it. and you are assuming that previously availabel LI's are automaticaly not half assed?
that's a lot of assumptions you are making here.
ME2 romances were 4 out of 6 with new characters. just saying.
edited - you can say that all romances are shoehorned. doesn't mean that they are. I'd wait and see the writing before making any judgements

Yep. I mean, I played at least for each class, but that's because I don't like buying new games when I can obviously play it in a different way.

Oh, I wholeheartedly agree. I'm not even big on romances. I'm just hoping I can provide some sort of sanity here. That's it. Of course, the fact that I'd honestly believe I could is probably true insanity.

I can make a logical conclusion here. Compare s/s threads, posts, girls. It doesn't take a genius to conclude they are a minority.
So you have . . . nothing? You are making a best guess, not even an educated one, which would require you to cite a poll, and its methodology and run on the assumption that all gay people report they are gay.
I can make a logical conclusion that you don't know what you're talking about, but you can't really make a logical assumption on what gay population numbers are, or what demographics might want a s/s romance in their game.
Yet you declare these things as fact.
Bravo, on a weakly supported troll argument that has no legs.
Have fun trolling then, at least your last one was entertaining. You aren't even that this time.

In addition, the new friendship system they have will make things more interesting. You will be allowed to get closer to the characters without having to fight with the romance subplot to make everything work.
This is what I want. And with that, I'll be breaking up with Tali and Jacob. I wanted to see the rest of her character arc, and was disappointed (it was nothing but "I LOVE YOU SHEPERD"). Now that I don't have to romance her...

Excuse me. Are you not reading my posts. I was nice enough not to just reverse your incredibly silly argument.
"what DO U HAS" could've easily stalemated this argument.
Now, this argument is about MY opinion then I don't need a team of scientists and mathmaticians to make conclusions. What I have is far from nothing. I didn't flip a coin. I took all the data avaliable and made my own conclusion. If this is not good enough for you, then leave.
Secondly. I still do not understand how looking at the forums, seeing the group numbers isn't a GOOD representation of the demographic.
Sorry, we aren't going to get "offical" numbers ever. Deal with it.

Dragon Age was not a fiasco because all romance characters were bi, it was because of the constant scenario recycling, flying enemies and lack of side story, really, if people hated DA2 because Fenris and Anders hit on them, they should grow up. I don't know why people get so pissed because of OPTIONS.Donnstar wrote...
