Transferred from the original thread:

And I choose...a snippet...a glimpse into a character I created for
my blog story Jacen Thorne. This character is Reginald Malore, a Templar
from Kirkwall...and for this challenge I wrote a prequal short as sort
of a backstory before he is introduced in the Jacen Thorne main story.  I
hope you enjoy...from The Assignment

A decade
before while hunting a particularly nasty maleficar, Reginald Molare
suffered an accident leaving his vision permanently altered.  When he
was in bright light the man was completely blind, but in low light and
total darkness he could see shapes. A side effect from the blood mage’s
attack turned his formally green eyes a silvery color that glowed in the
light much like a cat’s.  Even the Knight Commander and First Enchanter
found Reginald’s eyes an eerie sight. Not one person could tell him why
his vision had been altered, but his ability as a tracker had not been
diminished.

Here's the summary:

I paved my way to freedom through a swarm of tyrants. But even then, they still wouldn't let me be. Now I'm in a new land hoping to find a new life. Thankfully, I'm not alone. I'm traveling with a good man. I will see this through. I will inform the people of what happened.

I... will... not... die. I will live. I will fight.

Here are some general notes:

My story deals primarily with an Elven Mage from the Kirkwall Circle -- named Gabriel Nessin -- that escaped with the decent Knight-Lieutenant of Kirkwall's Order of Templars -- named Auron Crowley.

When they fled Kirkwall, many mages and Templars sought to inform the other Circles of what happened. Gabriel is hoping to find King Alistair and Queen Anora and talk with them, while Auron Crowley is on his own agenda and thinks King Alistair can help.

But the road they travel is fraught with perils of all kinds.

EDIT: Oh, and it's written from the point of view of Gabriel. He's the narrator of the story, telling the reader what he sees, hears, smells, and knows.

EDIT 2: Actually, I'm thinking of changing Crowley's first name to Auron, because reflecting on what I have written so far his appearance and personality draw some parallels to Auron from FFX. I might as well make a reference to one of the most badass characters of all time Posted Image

Auron Crowley. Yea... I like the sound of that.

If extrapolating DA lore into the future of what's known is acceptable -- I suspect it would be -- here's my teaser again:

"It's one thing for mages to overthrow the Chantry. But that doesn't mean that magic disappears; those with magic will practice, with the spells powered by lyrium... or blood. An uneasy peace is formed: new research flourishes, pushing the boundaries to what can be drawn from the Fade. A golden age of Thedas was what was promised..."

From the Origional thread:

Always There

We all want for things in life. We all need for things in life. Whether it be for money, safety, drink, love, power or simply being able to see the next day anew. Our desires, our temptations, our choices, shape us, even if the end isn’t always how we want it. For a runaway Mage and an Ex-Templar, their needs bring them together. What they do with those desires, those temptation, those choices, will inevitably decide their end.

End of Abstract
- - -

A quick, wee note:

My story mostly deals with Olivia, Thrasks daughter, on the run in Lowtown, trying to meet up with Samson, to thusly flee Kirkwall. Tired, near exaustion, and ready to give in, an encounter in the Fade tempts her into giving what she truly wants. The last half deals with Samson, the Lyrium addicted Ex-Templar, who smuggles and helps apostates out of Kirkwall, and the temptation he himself faces.

Here's my abstract:

***
Framed

My name is Susanna, and I am a Mage. I was always well behaved, or so I was told by some of the nicer Templars. It always helped that my big brother Edmund joined the order just to look after me.

But now I have found myself being led up the Tranquility Chamber. A book of Blood Magic was found in my wardrobe, and the Templars do not believe my cries of innocence. The book isn't mine. They have to believe me. Big brother, please help me...

***

The story is told completely from the perspective of Susanna. I decided to set the story in Tantervale as little detail has been gone into in regards to that particular city in the games, so I could reference things that were happening in the world at the time without actually affecting the canon. I hope you like it!

 The Abstract;

------
Family First
------

The Breeg twins; Always getting into some sort of mischief, but
those kids, just as amazing with magic as they were with the other mages. I had
been tasked with the over watch of the younger mages, keeping them in line, but
some were always a hassle. I was young when they were first inducted, showing
signs of magic at the age of 5, Benjamin and Catherine, the 2 youngest children
I had ever actually seen in the Circle in the few years I had been there, and elves to top it off.

------
Note: This story will be in the perspective of Templar Yarik. Who will also narrate the story.

Here's the "book jacket" quick version of my story.

The Warden's Shadow

Rielle's been looking for a codex to teach her an ancient form of magic. Rumors of the Grey Warden who survived Ostagar are spreading, as are the hints that he may be involved with blood magic. Rielle has tracked down her old friend, Veren, who's agreed to help her with her quest. But four years is a long time, and Rielle knows she and her friend are different people who might want different things...

Wifeless, homeless, and broke, professional peasant Mercutio Meresti is accused of a terrible crime. He uses his wits and cunning to weasel out of one punishment only to stumble into another, but fooling the Templars and the Circle of Magi should prove no trouble for a clever man. There's just one problem:

Mercutio Meresti is not a clever man.

Dragon age: Another Hunt
Sample:

Brandon's destrier struggled under his reign agitated by the unrelenting heat. "Cant blame the old girl, Andraste herself would be grouchy under this heat" he thought to himself. He could feel his shirt sticking to his skin underneath his Templar armour. As he glanced over his shoulder Brandon could barley make out the circle tower anymore. He judged he'd covered enough ground for the day. Man and horse travelled for a good ten minutes more before finding a nice outcrop next to lake Calenhad. Brandon dismounted and settled Miriam next to the lake for a drink. He knelt to splash some of the water onto his face and caught a glimpse of his rugged and worn visage in his reflection. Settling himself on a log that gave him a clear view of the lake Brandon searched inside his pack to find some bread, and more importantly, a phylactery. The thick blood inside was glowing faintly now. "At least I know I'm on the right track, south it is" sighing the senior Templar took a bite into the bread. It was stale and had hardly any taste to it but Brandon was used to such things. "Looks like this will be just another hunt".

My story is based on the premise of an apostate that deals with a malevolent tome. This accursed tome has claimed his beloved wife's soul. The demonic laced script has accosted him of everything that made him whole. He has spent myriad night's conceiving a plan to destroy the entities bound in the text. He unleashes his plan to help him towards empowerment.

So Very Empty

This is the story of Knight-Captain Yoren who performs the Right of Annulment on the Circle Tower in Ferelden at the start of the Mage/Templar War. It deals with the emotional impact of such an act. The story follows him on his ensuing mission to end the War in Ferelden in a world that has grown far more dangerous than he knows.

Hey guys, here is the abstract for my entry.  I'll be mailing the story to you shortly, I hope you enjoy reading it!

Maleficar

The Mage-Templar War ravages Thedas, casualties are great on
both sides.  The Circle of Magi in
Markham have finally achieved their first taste of freedom and stand ready to
fight the Templars and any others attempting to imprison them once again.

After a great battle and terrible defeat, Lucien survives as
one of the few remaining Magi.
Struggling to escape the battle, he resorts to methods the Chantry, the
Templars, even the Magi themselves fear.  Yet the question remains, do the ends justify the means?

Thanks, I hope you have as much fun reading as I did writing the thing B)

Dragon Age: Cold Revelations

A lone Templar, Shera, hunts down an apostate mage to ancient
ruins outside of Kirkwall, after her colleague Petyr reported the location to guards
on duty. As the only member willing to risk her night's sleep, Shera must track
down this mage as her duty obliges her to do. However, is everything as it
seems? Was Petyr telling the full truth? What secrets do these ancient ruins
hold? Only by investigating herself can Shera know the answers - for Kirkwall,
and for the Templar Order.

(This was hard with the 2,500 word limit. But challenges are always good!)

I'm new to the bioware social network. I created an account just so I could enter this challenge.

Here is my brief glimpse:

Follow (un-named female mage main character) as she wins an apprenticeship with one of the most predominant Tevinter Magisters and his personal quest to free Dumat (and the other Old Gods) from their unjust and strange confinement. As they cry out for the freedom to lead their people once more, so shall it be done and all of Thedas will rejoice. Join her, as she helps her new master create history and become a legend. The Golden City, Thedas, and (un-named female mage main character) will never be the same.

I hope that works for a synopsis type thing. I'm still fleshing out the details as all can see...Good Luck Everyone!

Ok here's my little teaser.

I have always known that they hated us.
__________________________________

To whom it may concern.

I have always known they hated us, always.

They drum the knowledge into you, that you are less than them, corrupt, tainted, because of the magic you wield, because of the way it sings in your blood.

It doesn’t matter that we didn’t ask for it, that some of us would happily discard the magic if we could, if it were an extra arm we would cut it off, were it an extra eye we would put it out.

They don’t care, and they don’t listen. If you try to debate the issue with them then you are a dissident, a troublemaker, and we all know that as soon as we are perceived as a dissident then we are simply one remove from being named a Maleficar or being made Tranquil.

Hope that's acceptable.

"The Gold Leaf Letter"

Knight Captain Moreland is easily one of the most respected Templars in all of Val Royeaux. When he happens upon a strange letter dipped in gold leaf requesting a mysterious meeting, he chooses to act against his better judgment and follow up on it. The stranger he meets as a result, ends up leaving Moreland with far more questions than answers. The cryptic information he receives, however, just might possibly be the key to save a Thedas no one knows is even in trouble.

Mine's a story about an arrogant Tevinter mage who enters the Black City, returns to Thedas as a darkspawn, and inadvertently turns the woman he loves into a broodmother. And, no, he's not one of those Tevinter mages. ;)

“Don't make deals with demons”, they always told me.

“You can't trust them”, they said.

“Let your guard down for even a split second, and they'll crawl their way into your flesh, turning your body into their own personal Feastday costume. You'll become an Abomination.”

Good advice.

That's what I always thought, anyway.

As the abstract I chose an excerpt from my story, which spans a similar timeline as Hawke only a little while after he leaves Lothering. I also chose the perspective of the templar.
Enjoy!

~

'Lyrium, such a fickle thing, beautiful beyond comparison; yet deadly with even a touch. Ironic then that we were given it by the vial, "It is meant to help you resist the influences of a mage." In truth it bound us to the same prison they call home. I broke free from the mages, yes. The lyrium however... You don't truly know what it shields... Until you take it,' Stitch poured his mind as he paced, Marna was sitting listening intently by the firplace.
Stitch's hand began to Tremor, as a sinister laughter came crackling from the blackened fire pit.

World Enough and Time

A templar corporal watches over a young mage who will soon face the Rite of Tranquility. Remarkably, she has resigned herself peacefully to her fate--- an action that sparks the templar's curiosity. As he comes to know her during her final days as her "true" self, he begins to question his faith and finds his own resolve shaken. And thus, a destiny is changed.

Just a small idea; I'll start the story itself soon, I think. The abstract:
---
He watches.

He feels the Veil thin and rip around them, and they accept it as if it is the way of things, eyes alight at the tricks they have learned, ignorant of all that is waiting, reaching, just on the other side.

Still, he watches, knowing that their magic will not be enough to satisfy their elders.

There is something so very strange about watching the spark flee from their eyes; no smile, no grimace, tugs at their lips any longer, and they are still enough that they could be made of stone.

...
---
A day in the life of a templar.

The Wandering Mage

Its about a magi who escapes Ferelden' Circle right after the blight due to the templars being afraid of his abilities (hes a Magi who specializes in the Walking Bomb tree, to the point he can summon skeletons (they call him a Blood mage for this)) and wanders around trying to find a place where he can go. He tries many places but eventually he is tracked down and has to escape Ferelden.
