I am going to regret this...

The Mage Tower Rhapsody
Synopsis

All mages in the Circles of Magi have tragic lives, full of dangers and even horrors.Perhaps this mage's life is not that bad. Kitty is an apprentice who meets a very unexpected spirit in the Fade, during her Harrowing. This is her chaotic and random account on what happened. She does not wish to dwell on her quite tragic past (because everyone has one) and would rather get things done. And done they shall be.

I realize BioWare said "BY" 1/10/12 in the original post to this thread, but the #dragonage Twitter post of earlier today indicated that submissions are still being accepted today. With that in mind:

The Templar's Price

"Ser Ladrimore, a Templar returning to Ferelden after helping to quell the Qu'nari Insurrection in Kirkwall, awakens to find that his camp has been destroyed by a rogue band of darkspawn, and himself mortally wounded. Ladrimore, offered a choice between death and salvation by the Apostate, Flemeth, values his survival enough to incur a life debt. The price seems simple: deliver the elf mage Ladrimore was pursuing before the darkspawn attack to Flemeth, instead of to the Circle.  However, as Ferelden’s legends have long forewarned, no bargain with a Witch of the Wilds is ever truly as it first seems."

The Harbinger of Dreams.

Pari Renard is a Magister that hates two things: her lost twin Favore and The Fade. Sadly for her, it seems shes tied closer to both than she ever dreamed of being. With a brother who hates her and only her slave as her ally, Pari must figure out how to end this siling rivalry once and for all--and how her brother knows more about Pari than she does of herself.

Will
you always say “I was forced to. I had no other choice.”? There is always
choice.

This much Hen had learnt.
His life, however, rarely seemed his own.
There is a time in life when a man must stand for what he believes in and answer for the consequences. That
moment had come.

Brief excerpt from my short story, from the point of view of the Templar Daegar, dealing with those blasted mages in one of their infernal Circle Towers:

Templar efficiency was brutal and frightening. The moment he had separated himself from the female mage, his
training had taken over. Daegar felt nothing as he watched the chaos before him. This was nothing compared to a
real battle. With the incredibly limited knowledge he possessed, the Templar was chalking this up to another experiment or new spell gone wrong. He expected that everything would be sorted out in a few hours and everything would go back to normal.

When a blazing hot, fire-red Rage demon suddenly melted up through the floor, Daegar realized his assessment was incorrect.

“Blood magic."

The Distant Echoes of the End

Amidst a time of tumult and uncertainty, in a world teetering on the brink of war…while mages and templars wait impatiently for the inevitable, dreaming of freedom, peace, or annihilation…one girl in Ferelden’s Circle of Magi has blinded herself to the coming destruction, choosing instead to fill her world with the tragic whispers of hope, love, and heartache.

Well, here is mine. :)

Last Seconds of Mist

(abstract)
It’s cold at the balcony but it was always the furthest place he could escape to in the middle of the night, after every dream he had of the Fade.
“I am a Templar,” he repeats over and over, but that doesn’t change much of the facts he is afraid of.
He looks to the sky as if searching for the Maker. It’s totally black, no stars, no beauty, only blackness. Everything seems to mirror his clouded mind like an ironic echo.

Not So Bad After All

A Templar who thinks he's All That attempts to make quick work of an apostate Mage he comes across in the mountains. Things go quickly awry, however, when he finds himself outsmarted by the Mage instead of the other way 'round.

My story ended up going through journal entries of a templar. A snippet:

Entries of Brendan Cairn: A Templar

Entry 4
I have been assigned to watch over this mage girl -- along with a few other
templars -- while she's in the Fade. The Harrowing seems to be such a strange
yet scary thing, but this girl...so calm and peaceful compared to the others
who have undergone this test. I just hope she doesn't have the same fate as
some of the others who didn't make it. Those abominations are such dangerous
creatures.

Agog
2,497

“There is no mercy for the thing you say I am.”
The whole of them clattered as they turned to face a middle-aged man with a sunken face and long tendrils of greasy light hair. His robes were tattered as if he hadn’t changed them in years. His feet were bare.
            Had he come to die?

Ser Cameron is one of a small group of Templars in search of an apostate and presumed maleficar, Euan. Unfortunately, nothing involving blood magic or demons can ever be simple, and though Euan is defeated Cameron finds himself dealing with far darker machinations of the titular demon Agog.

Good luck, all. This was cool.

Entry Title: Full Many A Rose
BSN Username: motomotogirl
Summary:  Ren is a 17 year old elf who lives in the alienage.  He is also a mage whose parents have forbidden him from leaving the alienage and exposing himself to the templars .  Ren and his friend Rissa, whose mother has a penchant for human men, try to find excitement and adventure outside the confines of their small world.  But just how far will Ren go to escape who and what he is?

Excerpt:

I wonder what his name is.  I wonder what life in the Circle would be like, if there is food every day, if mages wear rich silk robes and learn spells from ancient books.  I wonder if this man, this templar, will befriend the boy he leads away now, the boy who looks so sad.

I feel a wave of warmth envelope my hand, my fingers curling inward around the ball of light I’ve conjured there.

The Nevarran Accord was established in the Divine Era, long
after the Chantry and it's teachings came to Orlais. With it came the Circle of
Magi. Until this time, many mages followed Chantry teachings and aimed to be
faithful servants of the Maker, including Casper, the protagonist of the story.
Unfortunately, the Circle of Magi and the templars did not distinguish good
mages from bad, and they were all taken from lives that they had worked hard to
establish. Casper experiences all the fears and questions these mages had when
they were separated from their families without really understanding why.

The Importance of Exit Strategies

Two apostates, a Carta dwarf, and a templar walk into a bar.
It's all downhill from there.

A templar of low rank and middling enthusiasm, Derric always knew that getting entangled in a lyrium-smuggling operation would not be his wisest move. Still, it looked like a good way to up his income and keep his sisters
out of the bailiffs’ hands. Until, that is, Derric realised that ‘do you a favour’ was universal backstabber for ‘trick you into doing all the face-to-face business with our homicidal Carta customers’, the Circle’s lyrium shipments started disappearing, and everything went completely to pieces.

With Ulysses, “ceremony” came out more like “sarah money.” Strange fellow, that one. Tall with an awkward gait. Loyalty with little reason. Well-built with hardly any brains. (“Explains why he’d join the templars!” Cal once laughed to himself.) His shaved head was in direct contrast to the mop on Cal’s. The red flare often set them apart from others in the crowd; both their differences and synchronization were jarring. It’s easy to tell when two people are best friends.

Demon. A striking word, yes? There is a vile undercurrent that seeps through Ferelden, lurking in the dark, breathing through the Veil down our necks. It gnaws at dreams, hunting for unbridled emotions, seeking a host to twist and corrode. There is no safe place for us. Oh, the scenes that have dragged across my vision! The demons embalmed my dreams with an evil so thick I was forced to drink it. How can I begin to speak of such things? This must be done. A confession must be made, if only to make one last appeal to Maker’s mercy!

Title: "Shadow Lost"

Excerpt:
"I tire of your raving, knife-ear! Need I remind you that the penalty for protecting mages is death? I have been patient long enough! If you will not give us the fugitives, then we will search your camp until they are found!" she yelled.
Suddenly, the rustling of branches could be heard echoing throughout the forest.
"Take one step closer, shem, and it will be the last move you make," Aldwyn said with a smile on his face.

Abominations:

Wyatt Snow's story was the same as so many others. A nineteen year old, fresh Templar recruit pulled from somewhere that didn't matter, forced into a fight between Mages and Templars. He'd been fed all the lies, and only the most terrible truths about magic. And after being thrown into fray of a rebelling Tower overrun by demons, blood mages, and filled with atrocities that would haunt him to his grave as both sides struggled for survival, he almost believed it. However after awakening from a terrible fall into the bowls of the Tower, his story is about to take a drastically different turn, one that could possibly change the final destination that the world of Mages and Templars is rapidly careening towards.

In accomplishing this, however, Devin has uncovered a secret that makes him question the true safety — past, present and future — of the Tower, and the wisdom of those meant to guard and guide the mages there...

Fortune - Abstract

Siven wheezed a pathetic groan and rolled to his other side. He figured one of two things were about to happen. One (being far more likely than the other): he was about to die. An angry templar with just cause standing over an incapacitated mage - prognosis: grim. Besides, if the templar wasn’t going to do him in… Siven glanced sidelong at the squash. So devious. No one would ever suspect a squash.

Faith and Duty

Perhaps the most prominent Templar in the Dragon Age universe (certainly the most popular for
many), Cullen has played a part across both Origins and the sequel. This short
story explores a bit of the man behind the armor, how he got to where he is, what
drives him and moves him. And how he handled what happened at the Gallows.
