That Abominable Hunger
Lucian was hostile at best to the elven people of Ferelden, but now that he must hunt an apostate elf through the streets of the alienage of Denerim he is not sure what to believe. It was easy to hate the poor creatures until he must relay on them to save his life from the fangs of a hunger abomination.

Wow, only saw this earlier today...let's see if 2 hours are well-spent :-)
My Challenge submission is "The Ring of the Magister"
Rhaine Del'Tessar is an Apostate-for-hire on the trail of a murderer. When she finds a strange ring bearing the seal of the Golden Sun on a body, she meets a Templar in pursuit of the same killer who fears that the man they seek is not merely a maleficar but something greater, something much more deadly and powerful.

This is my short story, titled The Hunt.
Young Ser Yann and his squad are out for a routine mission nowadays- in these days of rebellion. Their mission is twofold- apprehending 2 deadly mages as well as recovering 2 templars who have deserted the Chantry. But when they are discovered in the same vicinity, Yann must put his faith in the Maker-- -or something- with bitter fervor and hope to rescue the templars, and get him through this darkest of nights....

Dissonant Verses
Amidst the chaos of the Darkspawn’s siege of Denerim, a dozen Circle mages – conscripted to fight in the battle – escape from the Templars. When the apostates capture a single Templar who was trailing them, they find he only holds the phylactery of one of them: Denara, a fifteen-year-old girl. The only person who stands between the capture or death of her friends, Denara must interrogate the templar to find where the other phylacteries are stored, while her friends continue to flee.

"Gravitas"
I think often of that child’s small flame. How she smiled as she held it. It was flames that devoured the prophet Andraste, and the Sword of Mercy that saved her from them. The same sword inscribed upon my armor. My armor, which carries the weight of stone.
When the alarm was sounded a week later, I was in bed, taking my rest. It was Steinar who shook me awake, who pushed my armor, shield, and sword into my hands. Who uttered the word that was being screamed down every corridor.
Abomination.

A Templar's Doubt

The heart is capable of making its own mistakes without the help of demons. A Templar finds the cost of compromise when he encounters a child with the power of magic and they build a tenuous bond.

My story is called: The Misadventure of Leith Memsar OR The Elf Who Found Himself (Uncomfortable) in the Forest.
It tells the tale of a rather fussy Elven Mage named Leith Memsar (called Mimsy) as he discovers, with the help of the Templar Alina, the importance of respect, usefulness, and good memory as he goes on a quest for an herb.

My abstract
Sacrifices
We all know what a sacrifice is...something that you dearly hold close to you...and you give it away. Well I was ready to do a sacrifice that moment...that Andersfel mage...called Anders? He made some serious sacrifices and well...it paid off! He freed the Free Marches from the unholy order of corrupted Templars! He killed a great tyrant by the name of Meredith. Well it was time for me to do something. My name is Draak, soon my name will be spread across the country like Anders! I will soon be something big! I will do something big!
I will...get my revenge...with a
sacrifice.
Summary
So yeah thats what my short story is about! A guy named Draak, his family was slain by the templars so he decided to turn to blood magic, take in a demon and destroy the order of templars in his small town in Nevarra.

Title: Mere Anarchy
Word Count: 2,490
Summary: It is often said, that history is written by the victorious; in the war between mages and templars, the
small tragedies of the innocent will go unnoticed and unwritten.
Ava is a Circle mage, seeking only survival. Ser Ethan is an older templar with idealistic views. Neither want to be involved in the conflict, and each struggles with the chaos it brings into their lives.

Jowie clenched his jaw as his brother let out another blood-curdling scream. It took every ounce strength not to call out to him. Beg them to stop. The intense look he received from Jair willed him to remain calm and quiet, at least outwardly. They knew it was tearing up his insides, that’s why they were torturing his brother in front of him. But showing his internal hell would only give the bastards more satisfaction.

Oh, For a Voice Like Thunder
----------------------------------------
Somewhere among the wandering Dalish, a mage waits - waits for the templars, waits for her destiny, waits for her death. She waits for the freedom that she hopes will come, not for herself but for all of the oppressed. She waits for the Hero who will save them all.

These are the words of Aileen Westfall, recently-escaped apostate. They form a confession of guilt in the murder of Jaral Thester and contain a foul heresy that obscures the nature of the Maker. Finding and silencing Aileen Westfall is a matter of utmost importance, as Aileen no doubt poses a severe threat to any she encounters.

Title: Beyond These Pages
Blurb: Senior Enchanter Marielle understands books and words better than anything else. Learning drives her, feeds her passion for magic. Her hunger to understand makes her an anomaly: she chose to enter the Tower as a child, and her only loyalty is to the Circle. When she must investigate a threat within the Tower that endangers what she holds most dear, what will she discover?

"Tranquility" is the story of a Circle mage who has never been tested by demons because she has never truly felt. It is an introspective perspective of a mage whose life is transformed when she finally leaves the Circle to join the Grey Wardens and finds, of all things, love.

Title: Of Dragons and Grimoires
Word Count: 2,459
Abstract: It was supposed to be a simple enough mission. To recover an apostate from the Korcari Wilds - hardly a task without precedent. But when the hunting party manages to overestimate their environment as well as their quarry its sole survivor must face an unusual set of circumstances just to find his way back out of the strange and unforgiving wilds.

Title: "Full Circle"
Word Count: 2,498 (seriously!)
Enchanter Dremmec Marner stormed through the hallway. Fearful purpose blazed in his eyes. His bearded jaw was set in dreadful determination. The doors to the right opened upon a balcony. Steel flashed in sunlight. Even from behind, he recognized the armored figure.
"Wulf!" Dremmec snapped, changing course. "Wulf, your bastard Templar friends are going to make Rosina--"
Dremmec halted as Ser Wulfruth turned. Splatters of blood, already dry and dark, speckled the mirror-silver of his Templar armor. Wulf’s eyes were swollen and red.
A sudden chill poured through the mage.
"They did it," Dremmec whispered. "Maker, they did it...”.

Camaraderie
An old Templar with more sympathy than most must bring back a runaway mage.
“You should not talk about things you know nothing about, Sildan. Come along, now. You cannot seriously expect to debate an old Templar into letting you roam free in the wilderness to be eaten by something.”

Here's a quick teaser of my short story 'The Tale of a Templar':
When Allard was six, he wore his father’s Templar breast plate over his clothes. It gave him courage, he would say, his hopeful eyes beaming into whoever was in the presence of his speech. Even during the cold winter days, when metal and steel wouldn’t protect you from the harsh climate change; Allard was seen marching down the roads in that old breast plate.

TItle is Misguided
I'd rather post more a small excerpt instead of a summary, since it would kill some of the narrative.
Gasping for air and feeling the life crushed from him, the terrified man lifted his legs to his chest and kicked the Templar in the chest with all his physical and magical might with a thunderous blow. The effort dislodged the armored hand from his throat and the mage tumbled to the ground.

Last-minute attempt
Titled "friends"
The children dislike me. They tell me it’s the voice – it distresses them. My face, too, and my manner. Nothing to be done about it. Some of the mages seem uncomfortable talking about it, but I remember coming to the circle as a child and being terrified of the Tranquil too. It’s completely understandable, I say to myself as I catch yet another one of them spoiling my quills. They will grow out of it. Learn to be afraid for other reasons, and deal with it in other ways.
