[title] Pinch’s Fascinations
[author] Firky
[words] 2489
[summary]
A man, once wrongly mourned by the Templar Order, recounts an erstwhile experience of Pinch, Tranquil of Denerim’s Dossiers, from the brief time before the Battle of Ostagar.
This is a winding tale of love and of loss. It is a story that raises questions about the unexpected ways a mother’s gifts might be received.
Please also find within, a BioWare-style cameo and a BioWare-style easter egg. Thank you for the opportunity to submit a story.

The two men and their followers are sick of the Chantry’s hypocrisy. Both men have been robbed of their freedoms by the Chantry, Matthew for being a mage and Wilhelm through the lyrium addiction. But before they kick off their rebellion, the two have decided to leave Grand Cleric Francesca a little message in a bottle.

 Tranquil Whispers

When Hawke sides with the mages, frail and young Nimue tastes freedom for the first time. But the exhilaration of independence quickly turns to weariness and despair - for freedom brings with it its own heavy price. Nimue discovers a world that she could not have imagined. Soon, her misery turns to a deep longing for reprieve...at any cost.

blood ties

The Harrowing is a trial not only for those who enter the Fade, but for those who remain behind. The templars of Tantervale cope by gambling on the fates of their wards; prayers and bets, after all, are both branches of the same tree.

Today, Ser Lyall is in the mood for neither. If the Maker is listening, He hasn’t seen fit to answer, and Lyall is beginning to think He never will.

 In All Fairness
When you’re a teenager, you want to be accepted, and generally speaking that’s not a bad thing. When you’re a teenage mage, though... well, sometimes it’s best to not want what everyone else takes for granted.

Just a snippet from my submission, it's currently untitled and I don't know how to summarize it other than it's about a templar who finds two mages in a hallway. Super helpful I know.

“How long is this going
to take?” She sighed.

Good question, no one
had been posted by the entrance and surely someone would have noticed the
missing mages yet they were still alone. It struck him then, he had been right,
something was very wrong and one of the two mages in front of him was to blame.
Leta stepped forward again, quickly he jabbed his blade into her chest stopping
her from advancing, he could hold them off for a while but if the both of them
were abominations there would be no surviving it.
“Why haven’t they come
yet?”

 Flight of the Ice
How can a mage free their shackles? How can they where, in Modern Thedas, they are feared due to the huge power they can wield?
Kairn Silvers, a mage adept in ice magic, is not like that, she hates the violence and the wars. She had fled the tower of Fereldn to escape her unchosen path, but can she walk the path of an apostate? Or will she fall to the Templars?

Here's my entry for the contest, and good luck to everyone!!!  :D

   White Death

Over his years serving the Order, Kethran had developed a reputation amongst mages for being ruthless when it came to handling apostates.  In recent times, that reputation had earned him a moniker–the White Death.  Templars had heard the term as well, and it was beginning to catch on.

Kethran actually found it ironically humorous.  The reason was that, while the mages didn’t know it, they were the ones who’d created this so-called death–the very thing they’d began to fear.  Though the templars believed it was merely skill that had won Kethran the reputation, he knew better than that.

 A Life Lived

Enchanter Todrith is dying.  He has lived a long life and now on his deathbed he contemplates the life behind him.  His arrival at the Circle as a child, his first kiss, his harrowing, a crisis of faith, the Blight, and even a passioned speech to the Revered Mother about the rights of Mages.  Was his full life, or had it been smothered by the Circle?

Unmarked Grave #47

Something
is wrong with Circle mage Lender. An unwilling witness of Uldred’s uprising and
veteran of the Battle of Denerim, he seems to have lost a part of himself somewhere
along his traumatic experiences. His attempt to find out the truth about his
troubles brings up even deeper wounds among his peers:  another survivor of Uldred’s rebellion whose mind was
destroyed by guilt. A templar addicted to lyrium, but with no resources to acquire more of the smuggled mineral. A former lover within the ranks of the Order, and
the pains in revisiting old scars.

I'm not sure how good mine is but here's the summary:

We Fight
A young mage named Roland reflects on his life within the circle and how he and his sister ended up there on the eve before a battle that would become one of many mage/templar clashes.  The events in Kirkwall and the champion's actions are still fresh in eveyone's minds and news of other circles' rebelling have reached their ears.  Roland and his fellow mages must now decide where they stand after making some very gruesome discoveries regarding the templars who watch over their circle.

I
hear footsteps behind me and I turn, instinctively reaching for the
sword belted at my side. He holds his hands up wearing the vestments
of the town guard, inept swine herders. No doubt he had never seen
anything like this before. "Real mess in here, eh?" I
hadn't noticed
.
"Yes, blood magic. There appear to be no identifying marks on
the body." “Yes, sir. Thought that was a bit odd myself.”
Yet
not odd enough to mention it in the report
?
“Do we know who it is?” “No sir, we haven't a clue. We're
going through records now to see who occupied this building last.”
By
that time, this bastard could strike again
.
Hell,
by that time we could have another blight
.
“I don't suppose anyone saw anything suspicious.” "Actually
the next door neighbor claims to have seen someone enter and leave
the building earlier this morning. She said she wanted to speak to a
Templar." Why?
"She wanted to speak to a Templar specifically?" Perhaps
she recognized a Mage
.
"Yes, the house on the right. She should be there, I just spoke
to her." A
long shot, but it's possible she knows something
.
"I'll head over there now. Hopefully your people can manage to
identify the body before I go senile." I leave him stewing as I
walk out the door.

Title: Orders

Nr. of words: 2500 including title (!!!)

Summary:
The freshly knighted and naïve Templar Haron is sent along with Knight-Lieutenant Calista, a seasoned warrior and intolerant officer, to retrieve a little girl with newly found magical talent from a village just past the Vimmark Mountains, and take her to the Circle of Magi in Kirkwall. Soon, the problems that arise along the journey would test him and make Haron question his willingness to carry out what his Order commands him to do or deal with the horrors it requires him to face.

Notes: The story follows the Templar Haron and is set in the Free Marches, about the time that the Blight erupts in Ferelden. Wrote this on and off since the challenge's announcing, finishing it today. Also, English isn't my main language but I decided to give it a go anyways...

Good luck everybody!
