Only the Pure
Word Count 2003

Synopsis: The setting is shortly after the end of Dragon Age 2. The story is about how a group of apostates react to a mage who has escaped from the Kirkwall Circle.

Trevan had his bow up, and an arrow nocked and ready, and I had cold blazing from my hands as something crashed through the underbrush towards us. There was a good chance it could be darkspawn, but it could be something far worse like templars...

The Greater Evil

Knight-Captain Levius of the Templar Order has been sent to capture an apostate- a criminal who is wanted by more than just the Chantry. His chase takes him to the Deep Roads where things happen with a certain twist; where so much thoughts come to mind.
Levius, as a Templar had to weigh these thoughts. Every kill or arrest he made was based on difficult decisions; that if made wrongly, would live with him for the rest of his life.

"The Maker's Will"

Templars weren't supposed to fraternize with Mages. Duty required they be unbiased. Neutral. Disciplined. Stoic. For their own sake, as well as their charges. It was the Maker’s will. Knight-Corporal Stavros knew that. He truly did. He had no excuse, therefore, for being distracted by a pair of twinkling blue eyes in a very pretty face.

Weaving Fate (snippet):

My head tilts toward Bala's nearly empty skillet. "Grand escape aside? I'd settle for not being hungry anymore."

He finishes up his bacon and takes out a pipe, tapping it gently agains his thigh. "Small goals are admirable," he agrees.

"My whole life has been nothing but small goals." Bitterness seeps into my voice.

"Maybe you ought to start looking for something bigger." He fiddles with the pipe to light it, sucking on the mouthpiece for a long moment. "Life's too short to be constantly playing 'Find the Phylactery' with your prison guards."

Crimson Snow

Shouts of “Blood magic!” and “Maleficars!” rang out, and Keylah smiled before sending a blast of ice careening towards her foes.  “Sometimes in order to live, one must die.  Death is the only freedom a mage can ever know in this world,” she whispered their mantra to Amelia, to the Templars, to the lamppost and snowflakes.

Two mages escape the Fereldan Circle and their Harrowings.

 The Unknown Templar

The battle was a blur and even so, three demons hovered over him now. He knew he would be at the Maker’s side soon. As soon as one of these demons came to a decision to finish him off and stopped their rambling. It was hurting his head. He closed his eyes and concentrated on the words of the Chant to ease the pain. “Blessed are the righteous... the lights... in the shadow...”

Here's a short clip from my entry:

My lungs hitched, and I felt the wetness of tears on my cheeks as his breath hit me with the smell of old ale. I turned my head away but didn’t struggle. It still made him angrier.
Daddy’s eyes were sparks in the embers of a waking fire. I tried not to be scared, but when he spoke I couldn’t help the whimper that shook my lips. The memory of the screams chased his words.

“My little monster, huh? And we all gotta’ suffer for it.”

Desire

Blood and lyrium. The sinister dance of danger and necessity.
In the Harrowing Chamber, a young templar feels a strange longing. Is it for the demure, doe-eyed apprentice who stands in the center? Or the pedestal of lyrium just below?
How far will you go for something you love, even when it turns dangerous? How long can you veil yourself in denial?

How many innocents have to die in the name of desire?

Inevitable Fate
2500 words

The flame raged
all around her. The heat licked the faces of the terrified villagers
as they watched in horror at the scene unfolding before them. The
woman's body was contorting and twisting as she cried in rage.

Binding her soul
to a demon was her only chance for survival. She would take every
advantage she could, even if it was slim at best.

My story is titled Wild Magic

It's about an older Elvin Senior Enchanter named Nalanda who's searching with a group of Templars, including the Knight-Commander, for an apprentice that killed a Templar and fled the Circle. Finding him is the simple part, bringing him in is the more difficult part. I wanted to write a story and characters that despite being opposites (a human Knight-Commander and an Elvin Senior Enchanter) that respected and possibly loved each other. The story has a tense battle sequence in it as well that shows how much Templars can rely on Mages and Mages rely on Templar protection.

The Shift

Abstract:

“Ha, this is a true display of Aramisos might and glory”, said Damian gloating, “I suppose the old Aramisos farts that bathed for so long in their ‘magical lineage’ and ‘power’ did everything to preserve this jewel of cob webs, old wenches and marvellous sheds. Ah, my dear spouse, you do belong here, now I agree. This place is exact image of what you are. The only thing we’re missing is you in a dirty torn dress of Seheron silk, with mud on your face and diamond earrings... then picture would be complete.”

Dragon Age: Homecoming

You can no more truly leave the Order than you can escape the lyrium, burning its need in your veins. There is no escape from the Circle. Not for mages. Not for Templars. Not for anyone. No matter how far you run.

Unsung Hero.

There's a man by the docks who swears he's saved the entire city. Of course, he's a bearded near toothless man easily dismissed as crazy. But if you sit down and listen he'll tell you a story... whether it is completely true or not is something else entirely.
