Hail to the forum!

I just reinstalled SoA + ToB after many years. I never got too far into ToB (used to play with monk and paladin, too straight forward to be fun).
I am planning a party with a Blade (scarlet + belm, change main hand to other bladed weapon when needed). I am planning in going through SoA with a 5 man party and adding Sarevok in ToB.

My party will be:
+ Me (Blade) - NG, dual wielding scimitars/katanas/bastard swords
+ Minsc - love the big fella. Planning on having him with 2hd swords and halberds
+ Jaheira - romance. Staff and spears
+ Anomen - I don't know why he gets so much hate. Dual wielding flails (FoA + DoE) using the gauntlets of dexterity
+ Imoen - SotM + Gesen

I only used Shadowkeeper for changing pips, I don't like how the NPCs placed them (pretty bad, specially Anomen).

Is it worth to build CF for my blade or for Anomen?

I plan on doing all the side quest in Ch 2 (including romance) before going for Imoen. I will be using the 2 free spots to rotate the characters and do their related quests. Will this be to much of a drawback when I get to Imoen? I plan on saving a lot of scrolls and have her read them asap.

Once I hit ToB and get Sarvok, I plan on dualing him to Thief or Mage, Is this a viable option? I have never dualed him before and I don't know if he will regain his fighter power in time. Which dualing is better for him?Fighter->Mage is awesome, but having him with carsomyr sounds just too good. If I don't dual him to thief, I plan on upgrading the purifier for my Blade.

How do you experts find this build? Will it do good on ToB? Or will it get too easy once I het Bard HLAs (EBS will give too much power to my fighter-heavy party)?

Anomen won't need the strength bonus, though it's still one of the best pure damage weapons available to him. If you play him defensively however, then FoA (+3 to +5) + DoE is the better choice.
Your bard needs APR more than a few points of strength (there are belts and potions everywhere, anyway).
What I would consider, since Minsc will have many proficiency points flying around (and since Sarevok will have ***** in 2 handed swords and * in halberds) that when reaching ToB you give Sarevok the big weapons and Minsc gets axes + Crom Faeyr. (If you dualcass Sarevok, that's a different matter of course)

Of course, if you go through SoA with only 5 guys, Sarevok will be a bit underleveled, just as Imoen will be a bit underleveled when you save her (but you already know that).
For Sarevok this will not be much of a problem. As a fighter he will mostly be lacking in HLAs, and he'll need some time to get to grandmastery with halberds (but since you seem to be playing without mods, ** is not much worse than *****). As a dualclass he will be underleveled anyway.
Imoen will note the lack of spell slots, just as she will note the later availability of Improved Alacrity and Dragon's Breath.

Once I hit ToB and get Sarvok, I plan on dualing him to Thief or Mage, Is this a viable option?

Sure it is. But you will not see his fighter levels back until close to the end of the game, so for most of ToB, you'll have either an underleveled thief or mage (with godly stats and HP) in your party.
May I suggest the lvl1 NPC mod instead to MULTIclass him to thief?

Fighter->Mage is awesome, but having him with carsomyr sounds just too good.

Those are two completely different builds. It's difficult to say which is better....

Arcane casters are always the most powerful (though thieves with UAI are arcane casters too, to some extent), but it's really up to your preference.

It's viable. Whether it's too easy depends on your abilities, playstyle and preference...

Yeah, those where my doubts, then I guess that I will keep them without it.

That might be a good alternative, I do find axes really interesting, so I guess thats a good alternative.

I will be doing most of the quest with 6 guys (rotating NPCs). I know that they will be a little underpowered, but...

First time back I want to play as vanilla as I can (Shadowkeeper just for initial pips, I don't feel to bad with that), but I will surely try with my next party.

I will keep him as is then this time. I guess I will have to try both ways, so thats 3 times yet to go ../../../images/forum/emoticons/grin.png

Well then, ahead with my return to the best RPG I have ever found.

Thanks for the input!!

I thought only Paladins can use Carsomyr?
There's a "good" +4 2HS in SoA for evil characters that you could keep in your bag of holding for Sarevok in ToB. If youfinally convert him to  good in ToB, you will find other +5 2HS in ToB that he could then switch to..

H_T: Does Shadowkeeper allow humans to be MULTIs? I've never used it. If so, that a hades of a good reason to start using Shadowkeeper. Image IPB

I was referring to lvl1 NPCs, but since I already dualclassed Mazzy with Shadowkeeper (change to human, dualclass, change back), I'd say the stupid answer is yes.
The intelligent answer would be to refer to some other mod that breaks these limitations with less hassle. ToBEx allows everybody to dualclass, while lvl1 NPCs can be used to make everybody multiclass.

Truth be told, my favourite Sarevok is a Kensai/Thief multi who is not allowed stealth, backstabs or traps (so basically a kensai with the ability to use armor but without grandmastery)

some more general advice:

- for Jaheira, i've always found clubs + belm to be the most useful weapons. Staffs and Spears just are "meh" (meh = nothing special). Whereas there are several clubs available early-ish if you do Trademeet (Gnasher and Blackblood) and Belm is available early same quests (and Gnasher and Belm are free drops). If you use Item Upgrade mod, you can merge the two clubs together for a sweet one, but +3 blackblood along with belm offhand is a pretty good setup (better than any staff or spear she would use).

- I've always found Flail of Ages to be FAR more valuable than Crom Feyr because of the 33% slow without a save. Once you start getting to harder fights, cutting a powerful enemy's attacks in half with no save in round 1 is far more useful than some extra strength. Like others mentioned there are plenty of strength items. In a vanilla game, I usually tend to favor builds that help with the hard fights since the easy/medium ones are well...easy/medium. Thus i always end up with FoA over CF.

- use scarlet + kundane for your bard, leave Belm for Jaheira.

- the suggestion for minsc and axes is good as there are several great axes available early (stonefire, frost reaver, azuredge). Azuredge or one of the other thowing axes is great for TOB when Minsc has run out of hardiness/AoF combo and is taking a beating, so he can retreat and use a missile weapon with a strength bonus.

You’ll probably want a thief for the early game until you get Imoen back then she can at least disarm the traps for you.

I personally think the biggest issue this group will face is the lack of a real mage because while a blade can cast some spells but is hardy a mage & Imoen spends at least half the game sunning herself on the island. Your party is melee heavy so I’d be inclined to take the pally along for his dispel/ true sight abilities... of course play style has an effect here.

Any way, have fun & good luck to you!

Yes, the idea is take Jan, do his quest, then switch to Nalia, do her quest. If irc that will give me time enough to complete most of the side-quests with a thief.
So far I have done the Maevar(sp) and the Planar Prison quests with Jan and still no news from her girlfriend. I expect them soon :-)

That is one of the possible problems I fin with my party, but I want to complete the game with these NPCs.

I think I will :-D

@Dante2377: Thanks for the tips for Jaheira. I used to have her dual wielding (in BG1 dagger and shield), and I want to try the other way (I know there are good staffs and I some good spears). I will give the FoA to Anomen, the Belm + Kundane (latter Scarlet Ninja-To + Belm and maybe the purifier or foebane as alternatives) to my blade. Axes for Minsc.

Thanks to everyone. Good to see people still playing this game../../../images/forum/emoticons/grin.png
