People are really weird then. I wish my exes had tried as hard as your current wife. I guess you just want to get treated like ****, well I have a list of email addresses I can offer you and believe me they will treat you like garbage.

Think you got it wrong.
I don't mind a caring girlfriend. There's a difference between "caring" and "obession", what do you think?
My fiancee is a bit obsessive and very jealous. I can take it, but it puts some issues in that relationship.

Liara is a lot more obsessive than my fiancee. She simply loves Shepard, regardless of what Shepard is doing. I'm not sure if that's "true love" or fangirling since I can't recognize a clear line between both. I'll stick with the positive interpretation: Liara is madly in love. And she doesn't give up that idea even if Shepard first goes after Ashley and picks Miranda in ME2 ...

That's what I was talking about. Having a loving and caring character is nice - it can turn into something bad if it turns into a "obession".

Sorry I didn't state it clearly.

She's jealous of your love for Ash, man! Give your fiancee sum lovin'. :P

Have to agree you, Ctpdata's obsession with Ashley is bordering the pathological.=]

Of course people have personal reasons from their own lives that make them not like her. In my case I am an American expat who has lived all over the world and I hate the kind of militaristic, short-sighted tribalism that Ashley displays, which is why she is just a Grunt to me. Kaidain is much more open minded.

Really interesting how many people unquestionably love Ash so much. Those who come in with the "paragraphs" of wisdom and insight are more interested in cutting down dissenting opinion on this wonderful wonderful character. :P

On my first playthrough I didn't like Ashley at all, first impressions on her vs. Kaiden were not very positive for reasons already covered by the few people with the "audacity" to speak of their distaste with her. To be honest the poetry made me laugh, I side with the guy who said it best...Corney  ...

I don't know which of the VS is more of a sacred cow, I guess it would depend on whether it's a real life man or woman. Women all seem to dig Kaidan, SOME guys dig Ashley so I think Kaidan is much more of a sacred cow than Ashley is, just because there are more fan girls than fan boys, even the lesbians of the community seem to prefer Liara to Ashley, so there you have it. BUT it's weird because the few Ashley supporters seem to be in love with her, almost obsessive. Crazy.

The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

So which Kaidan are you talking about? If you mind me asking.
Not that I dislike him. I just think he is more awesome as a Renegade, so the question is. How is the open minded thing working out for Renegade Kaidan?

I don't like her much, I am the first to admit it but mostly because she is very unfeminine, brutish and butch to me but why do so many people hate the poetic aspect of her, which is one of her few redeeming qualities in my eyes?

Poetry is very esoteric, NO ONE likes esoteric. Well not no one but when something becomes esoteric it's inherently marginalised so people can hate on it more easily.

I really don't have too much to do with Kaidan, only a couple of playthroughs with him so you would have to tell me about him being more renegade. But at his base he seems more mild than Ashely, maybe it's his biotic implants.

If Kaidan is a Renegade, Wrex will tell you to save the Council.
Renegade Kaidan is the most Renegade character you can have on your team in ME1.

I agree with Stardusk78.

That kind of personality has never really interested me and the poetry comes like an attempt to make the character more interesting, which I don't think it succeeds at, since it comes out of nowhere. I think it tries to make her be more than what she really is too, which I something I really hate when a character pulls that card.

Yeah the poetry does seem random.

I think they put the poetry in as the symbol of her strong connection with her dad, since she basically knows the peotry he knew and that was a way to show how much he meant to her. Plus it puts emphasis on her soft (and cheesy) side. I don't see how it makes her more than what she really is, anyone can like poetry and it's a nice contrast with her rough outside, in that respect it fleshes out how she isn't a one-sided person, she doesn't just enjoy being a soldier and looks for more in life, albeit within the context she must have been sternly raised in.

I'm intrigued to see what happens to her views now that she's seen the galaxy's real face, I feel like she can change and if she won't on her own, I hope Shepard gets the chance to make her see the bigger picture as you could do in ME1.

Moreover, that's not even her poetry.
That's a very valid thing.

First off, Ash is not an ordinary space babe with skintight suit and a lot of make-up. Quite the opposite. Oh got, no boob-show, what will happen to us, run fer yer lives! On top of that she has a deeper personality. To understand that you have to take time to get to know her - therefore that loud spreading of the Ash-is-racist misconception. And even after that, she dares to believe in god. Blaspemy! No sci-fi women believes in god. Neither do I, but I can perfectly understand her willingness to believe in something.
And, if those horrible traits weren't enough, she recites poetry! Poetry! Oh god, that thing comes from a book! Books! They aren't cinema movies, nobody cares about books, we should burn them! It's stupid. Because it has a meaning and literal expressions and... and... well, not that stupid actually.

My point is, she is hated on two purpose. The first comes from a dislike of her character which is a perfectly valid and understandable standing. We all differ, therefore we like different things. The second comes from a misunderstanding or a shallow exploration of her character. Hating her for poetry is probably the latter.

Coming to think of it, the wife reads a lot of Poe lately. Maybe I should consider a divorce.

I dont hate Ashley for her poetry but for her Dumb-Troll-Face in ME 2. Then she gets even more stupid in ME 3 (cant write spoilers here but if anyone here who have read them would know what i am talking about). If THAT scene gets taking out then all would be forgiven.

shallow exploration of her character

Or maybe they...

You know...

Just don't like her reciting poetry?

I know I don't. I enjoy poetry about as much as I enjoy hipsters and emo kids. Especially so with the emo kids, they try to act all emotional when they come off as being enormous tools.

But I forgot, if you don't like the things I like, then you are wrong.

This. Sometimes it's... ok. Other times it's just kinda weird.

It's never really good, but not really terrible.

When you spoute poetry in an apology letter after Horizon it gets annoying, irritating and makes the letter seem like complete BS.
