Of all the reason to hate on Ashley, WHY her poetry?

Of course people have personal reasons from their own lives that make them not like her. In my case I am an American expat who has lived all over the world and I hate the kind of militaristic, short-sighted tribalism that Ashley displays, which is why she is just a Grunt to me. Kaidain is much more open minded.

Really interesting how many people unquestionably love Ash so much. Those who come in with the "paragraphs" of wisdom and insight are more interested in cutting down dissenting opinion on this wonderful wonderful character.
On my first playthrough I didn't like Ashley at all, first impressions on her vs. Kaiden were not very positive for reasons already covered by the few people with the "audacity" to speak of their distaste with her. To be honest the poetry made me laugh, I side with the guy who said it best...Corney...
I don't know which of the VS is more of a sacred cow, I guess it would depend on whether it's a real life man or woman. Women all seem to dig Kaidan, SOME guys dig Ashley so I think Kaidan is much more of a sacred cow than Ashley is, just because there are more fan girls than fan boys, even the lesbians of the community seem to prefer Liara to Ashley, so there you have it. BUT it's weird because the few Ashley supporters seem to be in love with her, almost obsessive. Crazy.
So because people dissagree with you, you're generalizing. Super.

After the incident that happened on ME2 just made her take even more steps back for me. "You Turned your back on blah blah i can't trust your judgement", ok w/e i never liked you anyway xD Her blind faith is annoying. Even Miranda being so blinded by Cerberus saw the light in the end mission and resigned....Miranda FTW. I also dislike Ashley's hypocrisy. She calls Cerberus extremist, but if i remember correctly it was HER who suggested i kill the rachni queen (i didn't though).

This is probably the biggest reason I like Miranda more than Ashley. Miranda (as a character) evolves over the length of the game, and at the end, she finally severs ties with Cerberus.
Ash just sort of accuses you for working with terrorists (Despite being DEAD), and is never heard from again (Unless romanced). Even then, why can't she trust your judgement? Did she all of a sudden forget what happened in ME1? Her saying that it could be Cerberus abducting the colonists with the Collectors (As counter-productive as that may be) just made me think she might be retarded.

Why cant anybody just accept that was bad writing? Why doesnt anybody ever acknowledge the fact that Kaidan says the exact same thing..?

I can chalk it up to bad writing, but it certainly doesn't help her image. It makes both of them come out as dumb, I just think it works more so on Ash

How can the exaxct same thing said by two different characters say more about one than the other? That makes no sense.AgitatedLemon wrote...

How does it work more on Ash if they said the same thing? That was bad writing and they made both ash and kaidan look bad in that scene.
Also in regards to ME1, Ash does change as a character if romanced the Paragon way.

I meant that in the sense that it was more amusing (to me) to hear Ash say it than Kaidan.
I never really had a high impression of Ash, and her saying it didn't help out.

I don't like her much, I am the first to admit it but mostly because she is very unfeminine, brutish and butch to me but why do so many people hate the poetic aspect of her, which is one of her few redeeming qualities in my eyes?

Why must it be bad writing why can't it be an accurate representation of their character. And that Ashley and Kaidan are that stupid, emotional, trecherous and that they are crappy characters. And that their faults lies solely on the character not the writer. They are bad character who acted badly because the writer wills it so. Not because the writers are bad but because the character is bad. And is suppose to be hated.
*troll face*
Well mostly it's the combination of unrelenting hostility and cartoon level stupidity. Even if the VS reached the conclusion that Shepard who just saved the colony and their life is the devil himself. They should still as "loyal alliance soldiers" take the obvious opportunity to find out more about Shepard, Cerberus, and how they managed to thwart the collectors.
It just screams we try to explain why the VS doesn't come along but we can't create a believable scenario. I just can't take it seriously.

The idiocy of the VS' unnecessary hostility stems from 2 things.
1. You can blatantly tell them "I was dead" (Paraphrased, of course). What happens then? Ashley makes it sound like it was YOUR fault! Ashley/Kaidan must have just realized Shepard was lying when he told them he was Superman and could survive the vacuum of space (And falling into a planets orbit, burning into a crisp)
2. The VS has the nads to say that it could have been Cerberus working with the Collectors (Because a pro-human group would TOTALLY want to kidnap entire colony's worth of humans!). Cerberus must also be in cahoots with the Reapers since they apparantly had access to husks and praetorians as well, going by the VS' logic. It makes sense if you don't think about it.
But it couldn't possibly be a character flaw. It's just BAD WRITING.

Just blame bioware writers for horizon. They wanted to make us hate the VS so we can save a certain character instead of them in ME3.
And it's absolutely ridiculous. They could have at least put forth a bit of effort to making the VS sound less retarded.
Maybe even sympathetic.

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Touch my ass again

File a sexual harassment claim? Nope, just bad poetry combined with attitude. And don't even get me started on her infamous "Sonnet of Death." Fourteen lines of the most ridiculous poetry you ever read and the rhymes she uses, oh...my...God. I mean, who rhymes "bullet" with "cruet" in an A,B,A,B rhyming scheme? I'd rather have major dental surgery than have to read that again. In fact, it was rumored that prisoners aboard the Purgatory prison ship were forced to read it as punishment and that's what made them riot resulting in the horrific loss of life.
Then there's those wretched Haiku of hers. Poetry designed to open a Haiga with a syllabic rhythm of 5-7-5 and focused on a precise moment with nature as its subject and Williams totally butchers it. I have seen people of Japanese descent weep after reading just one. Not because they were moved by a sense of satori mind you, but because they were that bad. Kiko in particular said that it made her ashamed to be Japanese because her people enabled such a thing to exist and called her works crimes against humanity. I have even heard rumors that Kasumi Goto was contacted to collect as much of it as she could find in order to destroy it so that the Japanese reputation could be redeemed.
And you OP, ask why people hate her poetry? You clearly have never read it.
When Williams says that other people write what she feels better than she can/does, believe her.
